Is there any rule on how far in advance such a lockdown must be announced? In other word how big is the risk that e. g. you fly to Mallorca and discover on arrival that your destination has just been turned into a no-go zone?

I don't think there is. might happen pretty quickly.

ok here are the latest numbers

over the weekend we've had 154 new cases on the pitiuses https://www.noudiari.es/2020/09/154-nuevoso-casos-de-covid-en-las-pitiusas/

and this article says that, after 4 months without any casualties, last week an elderly person in a residence here has died because of covid. https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...gistra-fallecimiento-coronavirus/1167638.html

gonna be interesting to see if and what happens now - if any new restrictions will be applied, which of them and where.

184 deaths (sept 4th) in the whole of Spain; the highest figure since mid-May.

yeah. I had mentioned that a few days ago - with the contagion numbers going up and elederly people getting it, the death rate is sadly going up again. I think this summer the virus hasn't gotten weaker as people claimed, I simply think for a few months people were careful enough to make sure the virus doesn't get into care homes or to their parents/grandparents etc. obviously people have started relaxing and we can see the result now.

ok so the balearic government has approved the resolution in which the balearic health department may add restrictions to certain zones - as explained last week (things like no reunions at all, restricted mobility etc).

earliest tomorrow zones with a high contagion rate might be affected by some of those measures. so later today the health department will give an update on numbers and then we might know if any zones on our island might/will be affected at all.

Damn. Very strict. They can basically close everything they want, outside inside and even roads. Hurts me so much to see Ibiza, the Island of the free souls like this. Stay save.

Aye which is probably why they've had some of the worst death rates in the world.

It takes some real talent to out-perform Trump in ineptitude but Bolsonaro seems desperate to push him right to the end.

Wearing masks undoubtedly helps, in any scenario whereby you will pass within 1m of someone else. They're vital on transport, in supermarkets, and in crowded areas.

To me, they should be viewed as seatbelts are. They're meant for your safety, they're not foolproof but what is?
As I said, I disagree with those chaps in just about anything. But when it comes to locking people in their homes? You cannot argue against the fact that this is a fundamental breach of the human right of "freedom of movement within the borders of each state". And human rights are the most important in times of crisis. Do you suspend human rights in a time of war? No. Should you suspend human rights during a pandemic? No you shouldn't.

The difference between seat belts and wearing masks outside is that seat belts have unquestionable scientific backing. Please send me the research about the effectiveness of the civilian population using masks outside.

Its all very sad. And yeah the mask thing doesnt work. People touch their faces and the mask so many times. They think its safe so take more risks and pay less attention to the problem. Imagine thinking a 0.01 cent China mask will save you lol

Not related to ibiza but look at how was barcelona yesterday on the beach! ( without almost any tourist ) just local and expat ..
I took this foto in the area of poblenou ( where I live ) which is not the most crowded beach ( barceloneta which is around 2 km away is normally the one that get really crowded).
Been living here for years , seeing so many people on the beach in September without tourist is really unusual. Normally you get that amount of people only in august in a normal year ... which mean that saying to the local to not leave the city during the weekend ( to go in costa brava , dorada , sitges ....) It’s a mistake Imo

I'm just up the road from you (Gloriès). I don't miss tourists but seriously worried about the economics... + the whole arts/music scene is screwed

Holà Tourist , Viví justo enfrente de Gloriès en el pasado ?
Don’t miss tourists either as they were far too many in the last few years but now that they are no longer any i can see that many many bar , restaurant , hotel ect ect are suffering a lot , we can already see that some are close and not gonna open again ... for the music scene in the city , don’t even want to talk about it as it’s a huge disaster ?

You're in for a whole world of fun when you learn about trespassing and private property if you think being told to only make essential journeys is a breach of your human rights.

Did you not explicitly see where I said that masks are beneficial in environments where you're close to others?

Yeah lol I mean the rate definitely hasn't decreased since people had to start wearing masks and what do those surgeons and dentists and all other professions who use them know about keeping safe, I saw a post on Facebook that had a funny picture on it and they said it was all a scam, and it had 12k likes so it must be true

You are welcome:

Risk Factors for SARS among Persons without Known Contact with SARS Patients, Beijing, China

Always wearing a mask when going out was associated with a 70% reduction in risk compared with never wearing a mask.

So way is it that France and Spain all wear masks and numbers go up up up. People use masks for 1 hour. Then they put the mask in the pocket. Later they go to supermarket and use the same mask lol. Professionels like doctors don't touch them or reuse masks. To wear a china 0.01 cent mask for a day is bad and will give you the viurs faster. You eat drink touch stuff. Doesnt work i think but who knows. I just hope it passes quick and we can all go enjoy again.....

I'd like a citation for that please ??

As for using the same mask, yes I agree with that if done poorly. One other study I heard about was face covering wearers didn't decrease other measures, but actually increased them (wash hands and all that) so perhaps that is a factor in keeping it in your mind?

For Spain/France I think there is a cultural thing going on too (wear mask around your chin unless police near by), plus private social gatherings where they probs not bothering with any of it. Not that the UK is doing that well either.

Even though young people don't seem to suffer too much from it, big infection numbers mean big community spread and more at risk to those who might. Kinda like a tree on fire in a forest. One or two a little problem, a lot leads to an uncontrolled wildfire big problem ?‍♂️

Hopefully this shit gets sorted soon, but when you have the likes of Trump suffering from this:

I'm not that hopeful!?

numbers go up because people get careless when they're with their friends and family and don't wear a mask.

the recipe is really easy: practice social distancing. if you can't, wear a mask.

it's the social distancing where we are failing at, pure and simple.

Yep. What to do at the weekends??

At least Mercè BAM is going ahead this month

And there is music at the Pulitzer and the Forum Bus

Culture thing maybe yeah.
Saw it in Venice. I was there 5 weeks ago. In the morning full coffeebars. No distance but all masks.
Here in The Netherlands numbers also go up a bit. We only wear masks in public transport. Distance is the key i think. Lets see what the winter will bring.
