Not broken the law? Pull the other one. His excuse was complete bollocks. And there's gonna be more. I just know there's gonna be more.

He's undermined everything. The instruction. The national interest. The fines. Integrity. Everything.

He's a cretinous, snivelling little rat who deserves everything that's coming to him. Ghastly human. Zero sympathy

"Trial by media" is a fitting fate for such a deplorable character. Sweetly poetic, you might say

You need to stop sitting on the fence mate.

You should come out straight with it, and tell us how you really feel about him ?

If there’s a second wave I think they should name it the Second Cummings ?

Today was brilliant for the neutrals - what a ruse. Tragic if you're a Brit

The chickens are cummings home to roost

You are on fire my friend...

He’s f**cked up without a doubt, but would it be quite the same witchhunt for someone who is not politically disliked (and feared) as much as Cummings? Not sure.

What like the scientist part of the lockdown strategy that was caught going a few miles away to shag a married woman? Yes it was

Probably not, would those same people have been involved in the scientific meetings that helped shape the government's direction, would those people have been involved in the lockdown and message?

People have been splashed across the papers for sitting in parks in cities, or caught on long lens cameras in beauty spots to make it look like they are packed in.

The left-wing papers (how many are there?) and the right, as well as people and politicians from all over the spectrum have spoken out about Cummings because people across the country have made sacrifices for the health of the nation. Its bollocks that he acted with instinct when people aren't seeing new borns, my best friend has had a baby that no one other than mother/father has seen separately, people have not seen dying relatives or attended funerals. Instinct....

What law has he broken? It’s not the covid legislation. To have done that he would’ve basically had to refuse medical help. Read the legislatIon rather than just going along with what the media tell you. It’s almost impossible to be prosecuted under the Covid Act; bet the Guardian didn’t mention that. At most he’s due a £30 fine. Even a fine though is unlikely to be upheld as this happened weeks ago.

As to your other comments, well you’ve just admitted the guy deserves a “trial by media” and is a “ghastly human”. I’ve never met the man, so I wouldn’t know, I’ve never even heard him speak in public; assume you have though to have such strong views? I think your post just demonstrates you have other issues with him, and this is nothing really to do with covid.

Cuts both ways. You're keen to brazenly defend him without knowing him. He broke his own rules. It's indefensible, a scandal.

You don't need to have met somebody to form a opinion of them. By that logic, we might as well not have an opinion on ANY public figure, which is frankly absolute tosh mate

Banged to rights and an architect of his own demise. But keep defending him by all accounts. Are you sure you don't know him?

Problem with the UK government is their lack of contrition. They always have to be on message, and that pisses so many people off, particularly when the message is wildly different to the reality on the ground. Ever since Alastair Campbell, the sound bite is all that’s important. I’d just like them to do a Macron and just be less like robotic freaks.

The problem is journalists are paid by newspapers/tv etc. who are mainly in the pocket of government, so the ministers get an easy ride

He’s clearly done wrong. I don’t know him or work with him but I know there’s a fair bit of mythology around him. He’s highly unlikely to have broken any law - do tell which legislation he’s broken? Whether a back office advisor should be sacked for breaking guidance is the issue here, and it’s not about breaking the law. As per my posts above he’s not elected, he’s a civil servant and you can’t just fire civil servants just because he may have gone against the spirit of a broadly unenforceable guideline that carries a £30 fine. Not going to post on this DC thing anymore it’s very dull.

He would have "got away with it" if he hadn't been seen going for a family day out and other little excursions while supposedly been in 14 day isolation with his family (although true no hard proof on that)

The second main reason is how much disdain he has for the public on how he responded to the criticism. If he showed some attrition and explained why he did it (for his family) people might have more sympathy.

This is the guy who was like 'so what' when initially was said just some old people will die from covid19.

Also any advisor putting their boss in such a difficult position should offer to resign at very least.

Maybe it hasn't broken legislation but if it hasn't, that just underlines that the entire nation has been hoodwinked by this bunch of self-serving charlatans

He isn't elected and yet look how quickly and vehemently his goons jumped to his defence. If only they had acted in the national interest so efficiently!

The whole debacle stinks

Seeing quite a few posts like this now on fb lol. And that's how lockdown ends.

I guess he just wanted to be somewhere nice while isolating instead of in london. The grandparents helping with the child (which they didn't actually do in the end) would have put shielded people at risk. Lots of other alternatives imho.

Wouldn't be surprised if the cabinet in today's meeting decide on some new easing measures to placate people?

The biggest issue seems to be this -
If what he did was OK, then none of us saw that in the rules/guidelines, when a lot of people could have benefitted from doing the same. So why didn't the government say to the people, at the time - "we have found a situation where it is possible to take a child to a second home so to avoid any confusion etc etc...."
But they didn't, meaning we were all left in the dark. So if it's a communication issue, those providing the communication have failed badly in our hours of need, and must stand down.
Those providing the communication are....???
By not telling us - they had something to hide - therefore we can conclude that they were in the wrong.

It was well documented people being found in their car hundreds of miles from home, being turned away by police and getting fined for doing so. There was at least half a dozen of these instances made public by various police forces

The facts are the grandparents couldn't have helped the child. They couldn't enter the second home, and the child couldn't go to the grandparents. So there is no net gain for the kid. All there is for it's benefit is a large garden to play in. As I alluded to above - if they were in the right, then the rest of us should have known that option was available.

A lot of fines are now gonna have to be returned. If anyone hasn't paid deliberately they may now have a criminal record which needs to be expunged.
