Yeah this is definitely hitting the passengers....
It will be impossible for the UK government to do nothing, because why would they give BA a 200 million fine for the same type of data breach and spare EasyJet because Covid19, unthinkable. So this situation is the worst case scenario for everyone.
Although from what I've read, they ended up with uk security services looking into it as it was a very sophisticated attack. If they did everything reasonable to secure your data, perhaps get a lower fine??‍♂️

I’d bet it’s covid related - mad scramble to get people working from home and some security lapse - or outdated remote access software or something. Could well see more of it

With the pandemic being as infectious as it is, my doctor is doing telemedicine. So today I have a Zoom appointment. It's an app on the computer that facilitates our communication.

But my appointment was 15 minutes ago! At least I'm sitting waiting at home and not in their office...

It happened in January afaik, and was targeted by Chinese hackers.

Also interesting at bottom of this article

"The Information Commissioner’s Office said in a prepared statement that it has “a live investigation into the cyber attack involving easyJet” but did not answer questions about when Easyjet notified it of the hack. The agency has previously said it will not be enforcing data protection or freedom of information laws during the coronavirus "

Watching the late night news here: Dutch gov officials say It's highly likely the Coronavirus jumped from mink (it's an animal, for those who don't know) to a human in a breeding farm.

I think this is a bit worrying for people with pets. If the virus can jump from animals to humans...how will the governments react to that.

regarding the appointment: It went well. But they can't really prescribe for pain via the Zoom computer/iPhone/Android app. My acetaminophen and ibuprofen regimen will have to suffice. I'm having a sciatic flare up. She (the nurse practitioner) suggested ice and a specific chiropractor that she had in mind. I had to ask about prescription pain meds.

I guess it's a good thing that getting pain killers is like pulling teeth. We really have a problem (at least in the United States) with opioid addiction and overdose deaths, so I understand.

Mother in law currently in ICU with Covid....... proper f****d up all this is. There were 2 people i was worried about all this when started and that was her and my brother. Shes recently won a battle with cancer, just praying she improves soon as we have had a week of her getting worse and worse, its horrible (as many other things in life are! ).

I know its cliche but stay safe everybody, dont let your loved ones get this virus, by being sensible during all this. Its just got a million times more real for me. Its not over yet but i am genuinely worried for her....

I hope she is ok? it is such a hard situation!

Yesterday I noticed a large spot under my hair, so with my dad having skin cancer I thought best to ask the doctor, so I rang the surgery. They weren't taking face to face appointments, but the doctor rang me and asked me to send a few photos of the spot, and after looking gave me the all clear and just to get back to him if it grows.
A lot of consultations could be done like that, before CV I often told the surgery that I could photo and and email pictures of, say, mums rash etc, but they always said no and a doctor would come to me.
There's no reason now why e-calls can't be done to save time and expense, and the doctor can always ask you to attend if he's not sure or thinks it's more appropriate.

i read stuff this like this and just remember getting really excited about flying as a kid and now it just seems continuous hazards, health warnings, filthy cabins, security risks, endless delays, drunken berks, shocking customer service. Next time back in the UK, will be on the train.

meanwhile in Spain, they've half-relaxed the rules. my understanding is that we're all allowed down the beach provided we don't step on the sand or in the sea, to sunbathe provided we don't place a towel down and to gather en masse provided we're nowhere near each other.

?Sounds about as fun as a poke in the eye

I'd like to ask anyone working in the medical field about their current opinion on sweden's model in comparison to others.

in the quoted piece they had compared sweden to switzerland. back then I said that IMO it's a bad comparison because of the different population density (far bigger in switzerland than in sweden). at the time of publication, switzerland actually did have more covid cases (and deaths too I believe) than sweden.

switzerland had a lockdown (relatively strict, but you could go for walks. it needs to be said the swiss are very responsible people in general) while in sweden we know the lockdown did never really happen.

five or six weeks have passed since then and I went to compare the figures again just now.

as of today, both countries have almost the same number of detected total cases (30k). in switzerland, 1800 have died. double that for sweden.

as of today, shops in switzerland are open again, restaurants etc are slowly opening too.

the growth on new cases in switzerland is super small. two-figure numbers of daily new cases over the course of the past week. in sweden it's between 300-600 new daily cases.

my maybe naive current view is the lockdown really worked in switzerland and people are now going back to work. big events are still prohibited as everywhere else and of course the country will also notice the lockdown period economically. but it basically seems like they've 'beaten' covid. in sweden the cuve just keeps being stable but yeah fine, their economy isn't hit as much. if you compare the curves of the two countries they really are massively different.

I'm still not sure what was the better approach so I'd love to hear other opinions. also because we see that even in the hard-hit places like madrid or NYC we're far from herd immunity.

we might have to compare those numbers again in a month or so.

thoughts?
Here's a good comparison. If you look at Sweden compared to the other Scandinavian countries they have fared considerably worse with 7 times the number of COVID deaths of the next worst country, Denmark, and about three times the combined total of their neighbours. Looking at excess deaths, they had a 29% increase, compared to Norway with 0% and Denmark with 6% (the Swiss fared only a little better).

until recently we could have been arrested for heading down there so it's progress!
Definitely a step in the right direction for yous, in the UK alot of people are under the impression travelling to crammed holiday destinations here this year is safe and what we should be doing however any foreign travel is completely illogical regardless what steps are put in place.. not seeing it my self if people think everyone using their own country as the only form of holiday isnt going to lead to some craziness with everyone using the public toilets / beach facilities / parking / walk ways there has to be a level of comman sense

Do you have any idea how high the fines are?
British Airways got a data-breach fine over 180 million British pounds. Same kinda issue, less data, also creditcard details.

At this moment in time...there is no airline in the world that could possibly pay that fine without loaning it from the same government it gets the fine from or go bankrupt.
Well you’d have thought then EasyJet would have invested in better systems knowing the huge fines.

Professionally I work with highly sensitive patient level data, and know intricately the importance of data protection. I bet it was simply easyJet being lazy and not really a ‘highly sophisticated breach’, which is comms speak for we were lazy. GDPR’s been around for a while, and they must have known how to store data and cc details.

If easyJet do get a massive fine and go under as a result it’s their own fault. Data security is a basic to online business. It’s like staff walking out of a high street shop with the doors unlocked and wondering why they’ve been burgled.

If they do go bankrupt, it’s worth considering the planes will still be there and so will the runway slots. So I’m sure a new operator would appear before too long.
