ibiza thread updated. feeling positive. it's getting warm too, 25ºC this weekend (up to 35ºC in andalucía!). can't wait to get out of the house on saturday.

firing up the BBQ in a bit and cracking open a beer, I never thought I'd celebrate my 40th birthday in quarantine, but at least the outlook is far better now!
Happy Birthday. 40th is a year long celebration, pace yourself ?

Credit points? Any vouchers they are issuing are only good for a year AFAIK, and we don't know yet know how things will be within that period. Also, if they stick the prices up on flights, that voucher might not fully cover the cost of your next flight.
I must of misread what people had put, didnt know only last for a year. That is pretty shady goings on

Non-slip grip for when your digging deep for your last baggy mid dancefloor? seriously though their brain cells must be cooked with boredom over in California, what on earth

I THINK during the time of your credit note you can still ask for a full refund, in so far as the credit note isn't instead of a refund. Need someone to confirm that.

One point about the cost of the flight going up - if your flight today costs £200, and you get a note for £200, and next year the flight's £300, you haven't lost £100; if you got the £200 back now, you would still have to pay that extra £100!

On the negative side, if the airline goes bust then your money's gone - unless that credit note was covered by chargeback with tour credit cars. Myeslf, if I couldn't get hold of Ryanair for the full refund, I'd immediately contact mastercard for chargeback.

This is what happened to me (and every other Ryanair customer with a cancelled flight)

Flight was cancelled.
Requested a cash refund and was told it was being processed but there would be a delay.
Sent a voucher a couple of weeks later and asked to apply for a cash refund if you want cash instead of a voucher.

The options to contact them are either by phone (expect to be on hold for ages) or via a chat bot which might put you through to a human if your lucky.

Even if you do manage to request a cash refund (for the second time!) they are saying you are put into a cash refund queue until the covid-19 crisis is over whatever that means...

I've not done anything yet but will probably try a chargeback or section 75 claim for service not received.

I think I would go straight to chargeback, get them money off them and they can claim it back off Ryanair.

They need to be used/something booked within a year but you could wait 11 months and then book for the year after.
That makes sense, as next April your voucher would be still valid so you could book for October, or even spring 202....2(??) if the flights are available. Just hope the voucher number can be inputted on the booking page rather than having to ring them up.

I'm having a hard time discerning whether or not stay-at-home/social distancing are still as necessary as they once were. It's getting so much mixed media attention.

But for the most part reporting is primarily about people ignoring or protesting social distancing and stay-at-home orders; at least here. It feels weird to keep doing it when so many are attempting to return things to normal before an official "go-ahead" has been given.

I know I should continue, but it's harder when not everyone is in agreement...:rolleyes:

I think the problem is, those that have it but don't know can pass it on to others, especially the most vunerable. We stopped public smoking as it was proved to affect the health of others in their vicinity, so there is history.
But that could mean we have to stay in lockdown for ever and beyond until a vaccine is proved. Which is, of course, complete nonsense.
So is the way to go to allow people out with a "pass" and if they don't respect distancing, whether it be a shop, pub, pavement etc, remove that pass for a length of time - and if they repeat offend then jail them??
But to me that would be acceptable if more places were open so the carrot - a bit of normality - is worth the stick.
Right now it's just sitting around...sitting around...sitting around as the world begins to open up around us yet here the government is clueless.

Ask yourself why they aren't in agreement? Has anything really changed, or are people just reaching their breaking point? I myself have noticed some days I am more susceptible to the arguments of the re-open crowd, but its not because they are suddenly making a compelling argument. Its just for one reason or another I am fed up with lockdown and looking for a reason to believe this will be over soon.

Narrator: It won't be over soon

It has been my experience that the re-open crowd is also the most opposed to social distancing and mask wearing when re-open does occur, which i find to be counter intuitive. It seems they should be arguing for all of the social distancing as a way to make society safe enough to re-open. It is the disconnect between wanting to re-open urgently, but the absence of plan to do it in a way that is safe AND sustainable that brings me back to reality.

Edited to add: For context I am in US, where the protesters are as much anti-government as they are re-open so they reject government restriction even when the stay at home orders are lifted.

This is annoying me too. As you guys know...I've been in camp 'open up' for a long time. I can only speak for the Netherlands, but there are really smart people saying smart things about how to open up. But it's always the people that shout the dumbest things hard enough that get media attention. The lockdowns require a smart exit strategy, with some sort of social distancing (I'm not convinced it will work in every situation), facemasks and certain hygiene precautions. Enough scientist have plans what to do....its frustrating governments don't seem to pay attention to them and keep listening to medical experts only. That time has passed. We need to move on and listen to different expertises. Spain is giving the rest of Europe a great example If you'd ask me.

Positive (all things considered) daily briefing from UK government today. We're getting our phase 2 and beyond plan laid out next week, when our lockdown measures were due for review anyway

Restarting the economy is a part of that. Cautious optimism

Seems like by some miracle we'll also hit 100,000 tests per day or close enough by tomorrow. It seemed unlikely just a few days ago

More positive news today. Switzerland has allowed restaurants to open again from May 11th (with some regulations). Earlier it has been indicated they might remain closed until June 9th.
In norway the social distancing has been reduced from two to one meter and social gatherings up to 50 people allowed. Step by step the tight direction!
