Doctors have warned that the coronavirus looks to be causing strokes among adults in their 30s and 40s who otherwise are not particularly unwell, or even not showing any symptoms of the virus at all.

They have also said that younger people are less likely to call 911 and seek treatment because they fear the hospitals are overwhelmed by coronavirus patients.

There is an increasing body of evidence to suggest that the Covid-19 infection makes patients more prone to blood clots, and while the reason behind this is unclear, a stroke can be a consequence of that.

Giving details of five patients he and his colleagues have treated, Dr. Thomas Oxley, a neurosurgeon in the Mount Sinai Health System in New York told CNN that all were under the age of 50, and either had mild or no symptoms of the Covid-19 infection.

'The virus seems to be causing increased clotting in the large arteries, leading to severe stroke,' Oxley told CNN. 'Our report shows a seven-fold increase in incidence of sudden stroke in young patients during the past two weeks.
Perhaps small blood clots forming in lungs and then making it around the body?

Warfarin and asprin can help as are blood thinners but carry their own risks.

Why do you think they’re coping well? They’ve basically become buildings that only treat one thing. Hospitals in the UK don’t have capacity for anything much else. There is no way that the current situation is really coping, it’s sheer crisis management. Hospitals in the UK should never have been allowed to have been running at practically capacity for so many years.
Its relative I suppose. We were fearing scenes like Northern Italy so where we are feels okay. Given how previously any change took months of endless meetings we were actually able to get to crisis management amazed me.

But yes, what happens next, the 'new normal' providing Coronavirus care and care for everything else is the real challenge

It was end of May, I took rucksack with plenty of water but think I wore out my shoes ?
Tried to get bus back but me and a few other randoms ended up getting a lift with someone as it didn't turn up?‍♂️

it can be pretty hot already at the end of may yeah. and it's still a decent walk, the bit between la xanga and la escollera has a lot of ups and downs, I walked it again this winter. very nice but definitely not one I'd do in summer!

I remember my first visit to island I stayed in torre del mar and thought would walk to platja des cavallet. That was a big mistake!?
Coastline is pretty demanding but still doable, if you go on the road I find it very easy. I’ve done Dalt Vila -Salines many times even in August.

I just reckon the European response (including UK) has been pretty average. The lack of preparedness and catch up required is really just coming out now.

I had a hotel booked for the 6th - 13th May (non-refundable booked direct with the hotel)

A couple of day ago I sent them an email and asked if they would refund me and received a response that they will not refund at the moment but can offer a voucher valid up until November 2021. I know the same hotel refunded every April booking even non-refundable ones as this information was on their website.

I replied with if your hotel is not open on the dates I have booked will you refund but they have not replied yet. I''m waiting to see how it plays out...

Lockdown til november then?
If this is true what's more worrying is how more doctors didn't notice this sooner.

Incidence of stroke in people that age is probably less than 100 per 100,000 or 0.1% Even a several fold increase its still less than 1% per year. Put another way unless you are a physician that deals with strokes, like the neurosurgeon, they are still rare enough to not notice in the grand scheme of things.

In addition to COVID itself, sedentary lifestyle is a significant risk factor for stroke. Young people are traditionally among the more active but the quarantines have been a great equalizer in terms of activity levels.
