Instead of a genuine show of appreciation, it's now become trashy and chavvy like remembrance day - "how big is your poppy? If your house isn't covered with thousands of them you don't care...blah blah".
Also note that 40% + of then voted for a party that has dismantled the NHS bit by bit over the last 10 years. How do you spell hypocrisy? My country isn't my country any more.
In my street its respectful, seems genuine, everyone is sensibly keeping distance and personally is appreciated.

The bridge thing was bizarre and tragic

Not being a clubber myself, don't these things run in cycles? So they will fade away anyway? I did like the Hacienda in Manchester though, early 90's? It burned down...

They do run in cycles to an extent, for example the Clubbing industry went too far around the year 2000 building massive clubs (and in the UK massive clubs on retail parks, remember those!) They were never going to fill those every week, and the 1999 trance scene died down and it all fell apart.

Ibiza actually has EDM to thank for not being impacted much by the 2008 recession, while the world was having a grim 2009 David Guetta released When Love Takes over and America decided it liked EDM and Europe rememebered it liked dance music again and that was perfect for Ibiza in a commerical sense.

Dance music has hit a lull again commerically, but sure there will be a new trend soon.

Pretty fcucked indeed..But like so many entertainment industries, such as top level football, touring bands, comedians etc. it’s all got too much and there’s too much greed. This is an excellent opportunity for people to re-evaluate if they really want to subsidise David Guetta or Harry Kane’s private jet lifestyles or if simpler things are better. I really hope that Ibiza will be changed hugely for the better because of this and that a fair bit of the excess will go. Appreciate this might not be ideal for Spotlight but I really hope that you guys all thrive whatever happens.

It was only a joke and I know how serious it is! I am gutted about the clubbing scene and all the industries

But about dc10 thats what I heard they don't get paid alot thats a fact I believe

ok so...

@2H76 - of course the clubbing industry evolves and has its ups and downs, but it's the first time in my life (probably yours too) where at least 80% of all nightclubs globally are SHUT.

@SeoulSaint - correct, anything 'entertainment' is foooked and it'll be one of the last bits that will get going again and that is my personal grief of course. and while I'm not a fan of nowadays' david guetta, he keeps on being an entry point into electronic music (as in people who then a few years later discover the good stuff) and same as some of the techno big names, he's done a lot for this scene over the past two decades, like it or not. he even used to play decent daytime sets on the old openair space sunset terrace, I caught some of them too. I'm curious as to how ibiza will change after this pandemic, personally I'm hoping on more togetherness and less two tier society, but I have my doubts. spotlight will survive, but it's gonna be a tough time and I don't think I'm surprising anyone with that.

@cunninghamali - as said above, tourism and entertainment/culture are two sectors that will recover last. I don't know what jobs you guys have and I'm sure that almost all members of this forum are currently affected by this pandemic somehow, but if I had to take a guess I would say that once we're through the worst, a lot of your professional careers will continue pretty quickly. whereas here on ibiza, it currently looks as though we just have to somehow survive an entire year with no business coming in. don't get me wrong, I know millions of people are in the same boat as we are.

also, re dc10 etc... two things. on the DJ front: yes it's true that artists get paid less for a gig at dc10 than they would elsewhere. in the case of the biggest names, the difference in fee is massive compared to a gig elsewhere, but for the carolas, solomuns and svens of this world it's just cool to play dc10 once a year and thus they accept a low fee. on the other hand, for the mid range DJs playing dc10, those gigs will secure them lots of gigs elsewhere throughout the year. every 'underground' DJ wants to have a few dc10 gigs on their CV, it will guarantee future gigs and thus it's more an investment rather than anything else. it's the same with berghain, if I'm not mistaken they also pay far lower fees than other venues (berlin venues generally don't pay huge fees from what I know).

the second thing isn't the DJs, but all the staff surrounded by them. if a DJ is clever enough, he'll have made enough savings to get through a year. but now think about all the club staff, promoters, agents, press people, media etc. if you look at the industry overall, the DJs are probably the people that will have the smallest issue getting over this period, whereas everyone else being in the same boat will face far bigger problems.

the scene will somehow survive, but it's gonna be a tough year this bloody 2020!

It's such a shame. Maybe the top DJs who get €100k+ a night to play and the top flight footballers could redistribute some of their wealth to those who made their jobs possible (like peeps stivi mentioned). Boils my piss when see the premier league players complaining about pay cuts when their weekly salary would pay several of the ground staffs yearly wages ?

I also guess the 'dark' economy in ibiza is going to take a massive hit, would that have much of a negative impact on the actual residents? (Its not exactly something they can ask the government to help!)

To be fair aren’t most footballers concerned about taking wage cuts because that money then goes to billionaire owners instead...

no guarantees their wage cut will go to any good
True I guess. Although the 'if we take a pay cut, less taxes will be paid and less for the NHS' line smelled a lot. I'm sure they pay top rate of tax on all their income ?

This is a funny read, although sadly true

Trump has released lockdown for Florida now they all flocked to the beach unbelievable!!

Minnesota is doing a protest about having to go on lockdown and Trump is supporting the protest!! No words
Before this gets a lot of discussion...let me start by saying I think Trump is crazy.

However unlike most politicians he's one of the only one who dares to say: We have to get back to normal as soon as possible.
And the lack of that belief or hope or goal is exactly what frustrates me about most other countries strategies. They are only enforcing something without an endgoal or perspective for the civilians. Just lockdown - extend -

But still..Trump is a nut job.

I’m all for stupid Americans wiping themselves out to be honest. Could easily reach over 100k deaths in the US very quickly

at least the rest of the world will have some modelling to use about what happens if lockdown is eased too early

250k is more realistic if look at the trend graphs for reported deaths and project it to point where it would start to flatten (if use other countries as a guess to the trend) ?
