I am just curious, is there any public discussion in Spain (or other countries with a total lockdown) about easing the restrictions?

The mandatory social distancing here in Germany seems to work as well as the Spanish order for everyone to stay at home, if you look at the numbers. And it's much less restricting than the Spanish "stay at home" policy - I can go and drive pretty much everywhere I want (provided I stay away from other people), without the fear of being thrown in jail for something like "walking alone in the forest without a proper reason"

Also, is journalism considered an essential activity? Can e. g. Ibiza Spotlight task some of the staff to go out and make some nice current photos of the island, for the online magazine? (hint hint)
The German Healthcare system is a thousand times better than the Spanish, the French or the Italian.
You're more serious about social distancing, here, with a strict law it's already hard to push a lot of people to respect it ?
I think here in France, easing the lockdown for the moment would be a total nightmare for our already collapsed hospitals.

its been three weeks today since Bojo announced uk lockdown, does anyone know if this is going to be addressed again today? he said he would revisit after three weeks but not seen anything shared and tv guide not giving anything

absolutely, anyone with half a brain knows as annoying and frustrating this is were in the thick of it now and there is absolutely no point rushing it and it for all to of been for nothing

Apparently they have to review it/make an announcement by Thursday latest according to the law that was past regarding all this?‍♂️.

They’ll stretch it to just past the beginning of May bank holiday I reckon. No way they’ll want to ease up on / before a bank holiday only for us to slip backwards.

Heathrow are consolidating from 4 operating terminals to 2, which seems like a fairly big decision and operationally something quite difficult to reverse so I wonder if that gives us an idea on how they expect international travel to pan out

The bbc travel show yesterday was going on about a lot of travel agencies will go bust if everyone tries to get a refund as they have an 'interesting' business model in that your booking for 6 months time pays the bill for those going on hols now.

Also said international travel won't get back to any kind of normality until next year at earliest.

(Side note, film : System Error, kinda interesting to watch. About forever growth wanted by governments/markets & it's pitfalls. Interesting as now we are facing massive shrinkage)

Also what also boils my piss are all the conspiracy nutters I'm getting on fb thinking it's a ploy so they can vaccinate us with mind control chips or what ever?‍♂️ If they had any critical thinking ability it would be quite obvious if they had that tech they wouldn't need a vaccine and we'd already be under "mind control". I notice its typically younger people going along with it. Perhaps they should read more history, times before penicillin, small pox, polio etc. I think these people have mental condition like some people have OCD; they need a narrative to explain badness away, even if its complete nonsense. Makes me disappear ?

definitely a good indication, we have a lot of trips planned for this year and lucky been able to either cancel hotels or change flights for free up to now not had any hassle just hoping that by end of the year it is running again in some fashion even if means being away more over the space of a few months that would still be better than nothing.. I'm not ready to give up on 2020 as a whole just yet ? the glass must remain half full

not just the young, i know several people who believe that here. it's frightening.

two of the most interesting things for me at the moment are

1. the widespread testing in gangelt in germany, showing that about 15% of the total population have or have had the virus. we are still far from herd immunity, but not as far as some would have us believe. just anecdotally, of the 50 or so people in the UK i know personally, 25% of them have had symptoms very similar to those described or have tested positive. i know that's just anecdotal, but...

2. the fact that anyone who dies right now and who has the virus in their system at the time of death is classified as a corona virus death. whereas actually people die all the time, young and old and the cause of death may have been something different, however the virus was in their system... i think this is just one of the many reasons the numbers given right now are to be taken with a large pinch of salt.

only history will tell us which strategy would have worked best. with the exception of some complete f***wits like trump and bolsonaro, all politicians are only doing the best they can with the data they have available.

I think the third interesting thing is the rise of regular internet live communication and performance. I wasn't one for Facetime before all this, but our mates' weekly Zoom quiz and some of the DJ's videostreaming live sets have been great. Despite missing my kids terribly, my parents haven't been keen to embrace calling this way - not sure how typical that is.

You have to wonder whether the logistics of live performance, particularly live touring, are too risky and expensive to ever recover. The Ibiza season is probably a outlier, in its concentration of 'gigs' in the season and the permanent/semi-permanent infrastructure of clubs etc, but you'd have to consider whether huge global DJs will travel internationally night after night as they recently have. Also, what will perception of risk do to demographics? Will clubs have to pander to a younger, less cash-rich market, their lesser susceptibility to the worst effects meaning behaviour returns to the norm quicker?

On 2, in the UK, I think Johnson's willful self-lauded failure to follow even basic healthcare advice to individuals, followed by his hospitalisation, is indicative of our politicians mix of ineptitude and self-interest. Some reporting of his recovery as a good news story to lead ahead of the huge daily death toll, similar the the one the same media reported as a modern tragedy in Italy a couple of weeks ago, signals the post-truth world we live in.

spain's numbers continue in the right direction. last 24hrs have seen less than 3500 newly detected cases, it's the lowest growth since the start of the pandemic (just 2%). balearics only have 16 new cases which is a 1% growth only.

I'll update the ibiza thread later when I have specific numbers for our two islands and any news coming out.

Thats good news :) we just need to continue lockdown for a bit longer

Very encouraging Spanish news, although I guess the Easter weekend might have meant more underreporting, with revised data to follow??

The question we all have though is what happens when we see a real decline across Europe and lockdowns ease. Will that just lead to a second wave? Particularly the vulnerable groups, will they have to be isolated until their’s a vaccine? A close mate of mine have cystic fibrosis, and he can’t go out let alone go on holiday. Will he have to really stay in doors until a vaccine is released? Doesn’t bear thinking about. All rhetorical musings and of course no one knows.

possibly yeah. and since today is still a bank holiday in various regions of spain, the 'bad' day might be only on wednesday rather than the usual tuesday.

good point, I have seen a couple of arrogant minded Facebook posts along the lines of what is the actual point being on lockdown when we are only just prolonging the inevitable

total wrong way to be thinking right now I know but I suppose unless immunity happens this is just a short term measure until a vaccine (also not to jump on the conspiracy side of things but IMO Bill Gates should be keeping his name out of the media ATM being at the helm amongst the 5G conspiracy theorists already with his obsession of how the world is so over populated and now he's in some mad rush to be the one to get the vaccine out first inevitably saving lives, people maybe wrongly directed into believing some wild fact'less conspiracy theories and there for not want to be vaccinated in which could potentially delay all this madness even further

Sometimes I despair and feel like we need to do a format C: on the world. Or at least do a firmware update, as obviously some people have a dodgy version ?

Was an interesting interview on bbc today with a guy who was in hospital and recovered. Quite sobering really.
