latest numbers for spain give the best results in three weeks in terms of newly infected people, just over 4k people which is a 2.6% growth.

the balearics have only had 27 new cases which is a 1.8% growth.

ibiza and formentera numbers to follow later as usual...

Just seen on news that uk might end up worse than Italy for number of deaths ?
It's worth reading this; https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...s-what-can-we-trust-and-what-should-we-ignore as statistics are being shown to be pretty useless. For starters, (UK) the deaths seems to be only those dying in hospital and not in old folk's homes for example. Is it the day they died, or the day it was officially recorded? What if they died of Covid but it says "natural causes" on the certificate?

And we simply aren't testing enough to know how many truly have the virus. Add to that there may well be many at home who are ill but haven't contacted the authorities. It's a total shambles, and as a result lockdown may well go on longer than necessary.

Stivi might be able to answer this; how accurate are those Spanish figures, do the press and such like "believe" in them/ They can's be the dog's dinner that we provide.

Yeah, hospital deaths while "reliable" don't exactly report who died in last 24 hrs. I know office for national statistics is reporting on community deaths every week (death cert mentions covid19 in some form) which will bump numbers up.

While the stats might be a bit all over place etc, the expert was saying the overall death toll will probs be worst in Europe. I can believe that, as while london might be on the top of the curve pretty much, rest of country still on up slope. Admissions in my part of the woods are increasing not flattening off.

Very weird easter, havent time (avoid as much i can to go out) to buy chocolates to kids as not allowed to see friends family (3 bdays cancelled), i may buy some , next time ill go to supermarkets next wed ...
Imagine if Covid 9 crisis begun b4 Xmas??

Was wondering when they will let people back to office, not that im hurry to be back (75% of income is still fine when doin nothing) but in IT, there is some side effects after 30days 90days if not ,swiching/loggin on ur computer...

Happy Easter and see u (the egg )next year ? (will wait month -1 b4 cancelling all my refundable hotel booking and call, write emails to non refundable companies as there is an europe policy that force them to refund or give a voucher is the service (hotel, car, tickets) is not done because of that virus )
i ve just see 1 booking with booking.com supposed to be refundable but when u get the email confirmation(i havent read last year) it was written "non refundable", weird but i got an answer from them, last week, they wont charge if hotel is closed...

the spanish government is pretty transparent in that they say they know the real number must be far higher. the testing phase which now is in progress should (once concluded) give a better estimate of where we're at actually.

Think we will have a week or so of climbing numbers first. We’re moving into 3 weeks ago from big concerts were happening, no lock down etc

For the UK people out here. Found this article because it was quoted and used a reference in a Dutch newspaper.
One of the authors, Taleb, has published a great study about Black Swan Events. Events we have never seen before and had a huge impact on the world, such as 9/11, the Iceland volcano ash cloud and now the pandemic.

It’s not a competition. This constant comparing death rates makes me quite uneasy. Also, I’m still unsure why we compare country numbers when we all have different populations. UK is c. 70mill, Spain 45mill and Italy about 60mill? It’ll probably be countries like Belgium that are sadly affected the most per mill / population.

The airport is still running, notice tonight there were flights in from the mainland and also Paris. Assume they are passenger flights and not just goods.

of course it's not shut, but it's an absolute minimum of flights that are running currently. without a good reason, you cannot fly out or into ibiza at the moment

I am just curious, is there any public discussion in Spain (or other countries with a total lockdown) about easing the restrictions?

The mandatory social distancing here in Germany seems to work as well as the Spanish order for everyone to stay at home, if you look at the numbers. And it's much less restricting than the Spanish "stay at home" policy - I can go and drive pretty much everywhere I want (provided I stay away from other people), without the fear of being thrown in jail for something like "walking alone in the forest without a proper reason"

Also, is journalism considered an essential activity? Can e. g. Ibiza Spotlight task some of the staff to go out and make some nice current photos of the island, for the online magazine? (hint hint)

I mentioned it elsewhere already, the only way the lockdown works in spain is the strict one. if it wasn't that strict, everyone would be outside all the time - it's the big cultural difference from nothern to southern europe.

journalists can work and I feel we'll still have plenty of time in may to get photos of empty beaches ;)
