the spanish government is going to try to extend the state of alarm one last time. currently it expires this sunday 24th may and their plan is to extend it until the 27th june maximum (but in a far more relaxed way - details to follow). it needs to pass congress tomorrow and so far it's not sure whether it'll have enough votes to pass. in the case of ibiza, if the de-escalation plan continues in the same default two week manner, by 22nd june we'd be out of 'state of alarm' - the new proposal says that the state of alarm ends when phase four is reached.

update on the above: in the end, the government goes for another 15-day extension as has been the case so far. so, in tomorrow's congress, they'll vote for another extension, from 25th may until 7th june and it seems to have the votes to pass.

second bit of today's news:

we'll still have another newsbit to come later today.

third and last update for today - and believe it or not, it's a club tickets one!
  • amnesia have just launched an amazing ticket campaign: buy your ticket now and they are valid for one entry to any of their parties in 2020 OR 2021 (all parties included, even elrow and paradise as well as opening, closing - there are no exceptions). those tickets are non-refundable, but at these conditions you really shouldn't think about it twice: 25€ including 3 drinks (red ticket) or 45€ including 5 drinks (gold ticket). we will have them on sale on ibiza spotlight, likely tomorrow, I shall update this thread again once we've got them online.
while we completely understand it might be hard for most people to imagine themselves in a crowded club right now, please keep in mind those tickets can be used until the end of the season of next year - basically one and a half years away - and we are positive that latest for next year the situation should look far better. and at the usual entry and drink prices here on the island, those tickets are simply an unbeatable offer.

news:
  • details regarding yesterday's announcement on face masks: as from tomorrow 21st may and until the end of the state of alarm (and its possible extensions - currently 7th june after today's newly passed extension), wearing face masks is compulsory on public transport, in public indoor spaces as well as outdoor, whenever you cannot mantain the two-meter security distance between people. so...again, you don't need to wear them on the beach and neither in a restaurant terrace, because those places are only allowed to open if they do respect the minimum distance between tables.

daily update 21st may

balearics:
total cases: 2024 (+6)
deaths: 221 (-)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 168 (-)

balearic numbers looking very good. during the last days, the only new cases detected were all in mallorca, while both menorca and ibiza & formentera haven't seen any new cases in a while. here in ibiza and formentera it's now five consecutive days since the last detection (and only four cases in the last two weeks) and it's almost a month now since we've had a covid-casualty. just to point out there is a lot of testing going on, the total balearic test count went up almost 4000 tests in the last 24hrs (which is a lot, usually it's around 1000 tests a day, so maybe there was a backlog). another nice detail is that those two more people who've overcome covid in the last 24hrs are a 79 year old man from ibiza and a 86 year old woman from formentera .

news:
  • restaurante can jaume in cala vadella opens tomorrow 22nd may
  • roto club (bar / restaurant) in marina botafoch reopens 29th may
  • tomorrow we'll know whether we get the approval to go into phase two of the de-escalation programme next monday 25th may. a yes would mean the beaches would finally open to sunbathe and swim and inside bits of restaurants and bars could open as well, albeit with limited capacity still.

The Night League unsurprisingly levelling with the other clubs (Pacha, Amnesia, Ibiza Rocks to name a few) and cancelling their JUNE events at Hï and Ushuaïa

I shall update later again when we have confirmation of us going into phase II on monday - fingers crossed!

news:
  • as announced yesterday, ibiza (as well as mallorca and menorca) will move into phase II of the de-escalation programme on monday 25th may. this is a big step towards normality and includes: the opening of beaches for all activities, social reunions of up to 15 people (in public places as well as in homes), the opening of inside areas of restaurants and bars (with a limited capacity), the opening of parks and shopping centers (limited capacity too), theatres and cinemas (limited capacity), museums and monuments etc. basically it means that with the exception of the nightclubs (which still are to stay shut in this phase), pretty much all businesses here on the island are given green lights to reopen with the corresponding safety measures. the request made by the balearic government to open the mobility between the balearic islands was denied by the central government though. this means that during the next two weeks at least, we still aren't allowed to travel to formentera or to any other of the balearic islands unless we have a good reason to do so (work or medial reasons)
  • other than the balearics, also the canary islands, most of andalucía as well as big chunks of northern spain (galicia, asturias, cantabria, basque country etc) are moving into phase two. and finally, madrid and barcelona will move into pase one on monday.
  • if the evolution continues in this favourable manner, ibiza is set to move into phase III on 8th june and could eventually reach 'new normal' on 22nd june. lots of businesses connected to tourism expect tourist activity to gradually return from end of june onwards.
  • 7pines kempinski hotel next to cala codolar reopens its 'day resort' (pools, spa and restaurants) on 4th june for us island residents. the hotel plans to fully reopen on 19th june.
  • restaurante/pizzeria es verge in san josé has been reopened 21st may
  • petunia ibiza hotel next to cala carbó and its restaurant la mesa escondida has been reopened yesterday 22nd may
  • the weather forecast gives sun, sun and more sun...summer's here

another update today - as mentioned in this thread and elsewhere in the forums previously, a return of international travel/tourism to spain from july onwards is likely and has now turned into an official plan

daily update 24th may

news:
  • can sala bar/restaurant in sant jordi reopens tomorrow 25th may
  • very positive evolution of covid cases in the entire country this week.
more news to follow in the next few days, but things look very promising right now

daily update 25th may

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 2046 (+5)
deaths: 223 (+1)
recovered: 1601 (+7)
active: 222 (-3)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 169 (-)
deaths: 12 (-)
recovered: 137 (+1)
active: 20 (-1)

news:
  • ibiza is in phase two - our beaches are finally open!
  • something I had mentioned in here a while ago has now resurfaced. remember each of our phases normally takes two weeks before we go to the next (and obviously always given the covid numbers don't get worse)? the government has now repeated something they said weeks ago, that they would be open to shorten the duration of the later phases of the de-escalation programme to just one week rather than two https://www.diariodeibiza.es/nacion...abre-acelerar-plazos-desescalada/1144792.html this also comes combined with the president of the government announcing that some of our autonomías will be out of state of alarm 'within days' (he said that literally). so while none of this is confirmed yet, it is conceivable that the balearics might be 'open' a little earlier than we expected - all to be confirmed still...
  • a government member has also just announced that the 14 day quarantine on arrival measure will end when the state of alarm ends. this means that once we are in phase four - all going well and according to plan on 22nd june, but possibly even earlier as just explained above, there won't be a quarantine anymore when arriving in spain.
so much for now, I'm off to salinas!!

daily update 26th may

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 2050 (+4)
deaths: 223 (-)
recovered: 1605 (+4)
active: 222 (-)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 170 (+1)
deaths: 12 (-)
recovered: 138 (+1)
active: 20 (-)

news:
  • in regards to yesterday's mentioned lift of the 14-day quarantine on arrival in spain, this is currently set to happen on 1st july. so as of now, if you were to arrive in spain earlier than that (i.e. some time in june) you'd still have to pass that quarantine period. this might be updated again though depending on the evolution of things, especially since the president of the balearic autonomía is actually pushing for a mid-june opening to international tourism rather than start of july https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...l-presiona-baleares-abra-turismo/1145089.html the balearic government's idea is to be a pilot project where travellers would actually be tested pre travel and on arrival (this isn't a confirmed thing)
  • the balearic government has requested with the central government that all the balearic islands move to phase III next monday. remember, the basic length of a phase is two weeks and we only just switched into phase II so we (ibiza, menorca and mallorca) would only be one week in this phase (formentera is a week ahead and would thus respect the two week period) should the request be granted https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...vern-solicita-baleares-pase-fase/1145133.html if accepted, we could start travelling between the islands (within balearics, but not within the entire country)
  • now that the entire country is at least in phase one of the de-escalation programme (and lots of regions in phase two), today an official 10-day mourning period for all the deceased due to covid-19 starts in spain
  • experimental beach club in cap d'es falco opens on 5th june
  • cas costas on the road to san josé opens on 3rd june
  • germany is planning to lift the no travel recommendation for various countries, including spain, on 15th june, given the pandemic evolution continues favourable
so...in a short resume, the balearic islands are really looking good in terms of corona pandemic situation and are trying to get tourism back up by the middle of june rather than only start of july. if the request to go into phase III on 1st june gets accepted and that last phase runs for its normal two weeks, we would reach 'new normal' exactly on the 15th june which coincides with when the balearics wanna be back open for tourism (coming from areas which are deemed safe)

after opening hostal la torre last friday, mambo group are opening more of their businesses:

  • mint lounge on the sunset strip opens this friday 29th may
  • chiringuito cala gracioneta also opens this friday 29th may
no opening date announced yet for café mambo.

also, forgot to mention these I think
  • restaurante nagai on the san juan road has been reopened as well
  • restaurante marian y miguel on the road to es canar has been reopened as well

daily update 28th may

back to the daily updates, this is where we're at

numbers: (compared to two days ago)

balearics:
total cases: 2063 (+13)
deaths: 224 (+1)
recovered: 1630 (+25)
active: 209 (-13)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 173 (+3)
deaths: 12 (-)
recovered: 141 (+3)
active: 20 (-)

news:
  • ibiza won't be going into phase III just yet. the request made by the balearic government to move the entire balearic archipelago into that phase just after one week in phase II got denied by the central government and thus we'll stay in that second phase for another week which is the standard procedure. formentera is an exception and will indeed move to phase III this coming monday but as you remember, they started the de-escalation process one week early too.
  • according to this interview with matutes senior, ushuaïa beach hotel won't open this summer - ushuaïa tower and hard rock hotel plus grand palladium will though (plus their new hotel bless too) https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...mentos-desastre-economico-social/1145497.html
  • cappuccino next to lío in la marina in ibiza opens tomorrow 29th may

news:
  • tulp bar/café in san antonio opens this saturday 30th may
  • itaca bar in san antonio opens sat 20th june
  • atzaró agroturismo opens fri 26th june
  • kumharas bar in san antonio bay opens today - for now just the bar, no restaurant service yet
  • yemanja restaurant in cala jondal opens its beach part today and will be open wednesdays to sundays for the time being

as you can see, more and more restaurants and cafés are opening up now. a lot of hotels will also open their doors in the second half of june or start of july when tourism is set to return. as mentioned previously, we are looking at having some sort of season from july onwards. and while the following is just an assumption (because nothing has been confirmed/announced yet in this regard), I would recommend people don't get their hopes up too high regarding getting a lot of nightlife this summer. some places might open, but at this point we clearly don't expect ibiza to have its usual amount/variety of nightlife at any time this summer. I guess this doesn't come as a surprise for most, but I just wanted to point this out anyway. as usual, here will be the first place to read if and what opens and under what conditions.
