daily update 22nd april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1836 (+28)
deaths: 164 (+3)
recovered: 1017 (+12)
active: 655 (+13)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 154 (no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 11 (no new casualty in last 24hrs)
recovered: 82 (+8)
active: 61 (-1)

news:
  • today, the already announced extension of the state of alarm until 9th of may got approved by congress (well, it's actually still ongoing as we speak, but they will pass it). with that, the nationwide lockdown continues, but since we clearly seem to be past the peak of the pandemic, there's two small (but important) changes: 1. from 26th april onwards (and after 6 weeks of full strict lockdown), families can take out their kids (under 14) for short walks. things like beach visits, playgrounds and parks are still 100% off-limits, it'll literally be 'two rounds around the block' style, full details to follow still. this rule is valid for the entire country. 2. from that same date onwards, and depending on the epidemic situation, the lockdown rules can be amended (eased or restricted) in certain areas (this can be autonomías, districts, but even specific cities). this means that while madrid or barcelona might stay on full strict lockdown because they still have a big number of new daily infected people, over in formentera, where they only had four detected cases since the outbreak, the lockdown might get eased a little (things like outdoor exercise for adults). and if the numbers keep going in the right direction, gradually more and more measures should get lifted, but the govermnent made it clear it will be a very slow and cautious process.
  • the government yesterday admitted there's no official schedule (yet) for tourism to return, but clearly stated they are aware of the importance of that sector and that they do hope some of the season can be saved https://www.periodicodeibiza.es/not...virus-espana-hay-calendario-para-turismo.html
  • the government has also fixed a maximum price for face masks (the surgical model), at 0.96€ per piece max. on the balearics, 1.3m pieces are being distributed to the pharmacies of the balearics currently (with more certainly to come)

daily update 23rd april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1861 (+25)
deaths: 168 (+4)
recovered: 1047 (+30)
active: 646 (-9)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 154 (again no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (+1)
recovered: 85 (+3)
active: 57 (-4)

on the entire balearic archipelago another 969 tests have been done in the last 24hrs and only 25 positive cases have been detected. as more and more tests are being conducted we have to expect numbers to keep going up still, but the low figures we're seeing in the past few days are positive signs. and obviously a second day in a row without any newly infected people here in ibiza and formentera is great.

news:

daily update 24th april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1878 (+17)
deaths: 172 (+4)
recovered: 1081 (+34)
active: 625 (-21)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 154 (again no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 88 (+3)
active: 54 (-3)

another day with lots of small good news in regards to numbers:
- on a national level, smallest number of casualties within 24hrs in an entire month (367)
- double number of recovered people compared to newly detected cases in last 24hrs on the balearics. also, generally a really small increase of newly detected cases on the archipelago (1390 tests done and only 17 new cases detected)
- third day in a row here in ibiza and formentera with NO newly detected covid-19 cases!

daily update 25th april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1907 (+29)
deaths: 174 (+2)
recovered: 1102 (+21)
active: 631 (+6)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 154 (again no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 97 (+9)
active: 45 (-9)

four consecutive days without any newly detected cases in ibiza and formentera now and two thirds of all detected cases recovered.

daily update 26th april

numbers:

before I start, the spanish state has slightly changed their count mode again. it's getting complicated ;) they decided not to include the people that have had an antibody test in the total count anymore (which they have up until now), but rather only the ones confirmed by a proper PCR test. this is why the total number for the balearics is actually smaller than yesterday. I'll give you both numbers as the balearic government still includes the antibody numbers in their total count.

balearics:
total cases: 1854 (+7 if you compare to the 1847 PCR-tested number as per yesterday) or 1917 (old count mode with antibody tests included, so that's +7 PCR and +3 antibody positives, +10 in total)
deaths: 175 (+1)
recovered: 1123 (+21)
active: 556 (-15) or 619 old count (-12)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 156 (+2)
deaths: 12 (no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 98 (+1)
active: 46 (+1)

another number I wanna point out today is the 288 deceased people within spain in the last 24hrs. while it's obviously still a big number, it's by far the lowest we've had since the pandemic broke loose. also the growth of cases in the entire country is the slowest we've seen, 1729 newly detected people (by pcr test) which is only a 0.8% growth. everyone is sick of the lockdown, but it seems to be working...

news:
  • after six weeks of strict lockdown in spain, as from today, families with kids up to the age of 14 can leave the house for one hour a day. it's always just one adult with max three kids and the radius is restricted to one kilometer from home, but at least the young ones finally get some fresh air. playgrounds stay shut though and people are advised to maximise precautions (face masks, keep distance from others, leave shoes outside when coming back, wash hands etc). in a few cities the parks reopen for that and here in ibiza, figueretas and talamanca beaches have reopened for the same reason - to walk and play, but not to sunbathe and swim!
  • yesterday evening the president of the government announced that if the evolution of the pandemic within spain continues in the same positive direction, adults will be able to leave the house for walks and exercise from next saturday 2nd may onwards. confirmation and full details on that to follow next week. so this would mean that after seven weeks of total confinement we get to enjoy some outdoor time again, let's just hope the numbers do indeed go further down as they have done in the past two weeks, because yours truly and I think pretty much everyone else could definitely do with a walk by now.
  • also next week, on tuesday, the government will present their deescalation plan with details as to when/what is expected to open back up. the government made it clear it will be a slow and asymetrical process which means that some areas might still stay on a stricter lockdown still (because of their situation) while others might open up earlier. but until 9th of may, it seems the only two relaxations are the two above mentioned.
after a few weeks with a lot of rain here on the balearics and another rainy day yesterday, the sun is now back and if the forecast is anything to go by, it's set to stay. suits my mood today, we seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

daily update 27th april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1859 (+5)
deaths: 179 (+4)
recovered: 1136 (+13)
active: 544 (-12)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 158 (+2)
deaths: 12 (no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 101 (+3)
active: 45 (-1)

it's monday and thus numbers have to be taken with a pinch of salt, but still, currently things are looking pretty ok here on the balearics.

no other news for now, but as mentioned yesterday, tomorrow tuesday the spanish government will announce their preliminary de-escalation plans. apart from that I've also seen something regarding a meeting of EU ministers to talk about what should happen with tourism/travelling within the EU this year so I guess this week could turn into an interesting one where we might know a little more as to how exactly the governments envisage the coming few months in europe.

daily update 28th april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1870 (+11)
deaths: 181 (+2)
recovered: 1166 (+30)
active: 523 (-21)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 158 (no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 103 (+2)
active: 43 (-2)

so in the entire last week, we've only had 4 new cases on ibiza and formentera respectively 12 cases over the course of the last two weeks. growth of covid cases in the whole of spain has also decreased massively in the last few days. it's decidedly looking better.

I shall update this thread later again today when we know more in regards to the government's latest decisions about the de-escalation/lifting of measures. this might be the really interesting bit today!

Circoloco opening cancelled

As you may have already guessed, we have had to cancel our Opening Party for Summer 2020. We must have patience and wait until it is announced that we can resume our activities in total safety.

For now, we are close to all the people that are suffering in the world and with all those on the front line to assist them.

During these uncertain times, we currently are unable to confirm any new dates for you guys but we will keep you updated on this as soon as possible.

second part of today's update, now we're talking. read carefully, it's complicated.

the return to normality in spain will be done in four phases. it's the same system for the entire country, but each territory will be watched and dealt with in different speeds depending on its individual pandemic situation.

the current state of alarm is still valid until the 9th of may in which we're still confined. within this state of alarm, since this past sunday, families with kids can leave the house for an hour a day and from this coming saturday 2nd may onwards, us adults will be able to do so too for walks/sport (this is confirmed now, but details to follow still - yours truly can't wait to go for a run).

then these are the four phases. each phase lasts for two weeks at least in every territory, it could be longer if the pandemic situation worsens.

phase 0: (if I understood correctly this phase is only one week): preparation phase where businesses (shops, bars, restaurants, hotels, public transport) adapt to new situation and prepare (I think only very few businesses will be allowed to open up in that phase).

phase 1: shops can open with the new precautionary measures, but no big shopping malls. hotels can open (precautionary measures and only a third of capacity) and restaurants that have an outdoor area can open too (third of capacity only).

phase 2: indoor bits in restaurants open, cinemas and theaters can reopen, but also only with a third of capacity.

phase 3: capacity of places goes up to 50%.

phase 4: 'the new normal'

with a few exceptions, most territories go into phase 0 on 4th may and then into phase 1 on 11th may. formentera is an exception (as they have such a favourable pandemic situation) and goes into phase 1 directly on 4th may.

so, in a best case scenario, we would be in the 'new normal' by 22nd june here on ibiza. the horizon for the spanish government is indeed to have the country back open completely by the end of june. also, until all territories are in phase four, no travel between territories will be allowed.

no details available yet regarding opening borders - all going well, in a best case scenario, maybe start of july, depending on the situation within spain and the whole of europe? could be much later than that if the phases need more time and/or other countries in europe haven't improved yet.

no details available yet regarding clubs - I am pretty certain this will only come in/after phase four and while it's certainly not the most important thing right now, I understand it's a detail a lot of ibiza lovers care about.

as usual, we will update again once more details are available.

it's in spanish, but a pretty good graph on the four phases

daily update 29th april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1879 (+9)
deaths: 185 (+4)
recovered: 1196 (+30)
active: 498 (-25)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 158 (again no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (again no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 106 (+3)
active: 40 (-3)

another positive number to mention today is that in spain, in the last 24hrs there were 2144 newly detected cases, which is still a considerable number, but on the other hand, a whopping 6399 people have recovered from covid-19 in that same period. in a lot of the autonomías the growth in new cases is very low now, two digit numbers in newly detected cases. madrid and catalonia are the two areas that still have bigger numbers (both in real numbers and percentual) of new cases.

news:
  • here's the official document from the government explaining the four-phase de-escalation programme in detail. https://www.lamoncloa.gob.es/consejodeministros/resumenes/Documents/2020/28042020_Anexo II FASES.pdf since we're an ibiza forum with a lot of nightlife lovers being members, I'm pointing out one detail: according to that document, in phase three, which in a best case scenario could start on 8th june at the earliest, bars and clubs could already open again at a third of their usual capacity.
  • on the same date as 'earliest possible' 8th june, beaches could open again - with safety distances (details TBA)
  • the president of ibiza's council doesn't discard a touristic season. 'of course it will be a strange season, but it's important that the touristic activity continues' https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...s-ibiza-presidente-consell-ibiza/1139701.html
  • the one important detail we still don't know anything about right now is borders/flights. in a best case scenario, from 22nd june onwards (at the earliest) travel within spain might be allowed again (given all comunidades autonomas have gone through the phases in those two week periods). IF that is the case, and IF europe is evolving favourably, in a best case scenario maybe july could mean the kick off for the real tourist season. but between that and a complete non-season because of second waves or travel bans, literally anything is possible. please keep in mind this whole situation is dynamic and could change quickly again, but one thing's sure, it's currently looking a lot better than a month ago my friends!

daily update 30th april

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1883 (+4)
deaths: 188 (+3)
recovered: 1219 (+23)
active: 476 (-22)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 158 (again no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (again no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 107 (+1)
active: 39 (-1)

only four newly detected cases in the entire balearic archipelago and another day without any new cases here in ibza and formentera. I think that's a good way to end this month and head into may with a bit of optimism.

news:
  • as mentioned previously, from sat 2nd may onwards we'll be able to leave the house for walks & runs. details should follow this evening, but what we do know already is that there will be different schedules for different ages so that for example elderly people have their own time slot to go outside and won't mix with the younger crowd.
  • the balearic government has requested that apart from formentera, also menorca and ibiza should directly go into 'phase 1' on monday 4th of may (instead of 11th may) because of its favourable pandemic situation & progress. according to the island's council we comply with the parameters. approval or rejection of that request by the central government is still outstanding but might also come in later today
  • in a press conference, the president of the island's council reiterated that if the four-phase deescalation goes well and both the evolution on the spanish mainland as well as in europe in general is similarly favourable, a return of international tourism could start within two or three months minimum - which would be july or august. that would be a best case scenario without any setbacks happening along the way. obviously ibiza going into phase 1 a week earlier (as explained above) would further help that mission.

daily update 1st may

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1894 (+11)
deaths: 193 (+5)
recovered: 1245 (+26)
active: 456 (-20)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 158 (again no newly detected case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (again no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 109 (+2)
active: 37 (-2)

news:
  • as from tomorrow 2nd may we're allowed to leave the house for sports and walks. the slots are as follows: adults 6am - 10am and 8pm - 11pm. seniors 10am - 12noon and 7pm to 8pm. families with kids 12 noon to 7pm. you mustn't leave the municipality you live in and also you mustn't take the car or public transport to go somewhere and then do sports there. so it's quite limited, but then again we're on lockdown still. it's a start!

daily update 2nd may

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1902 (+8)
deaths: 197 (+4)
recovered: 1268 (+23)
active: 437 (-19)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 161 (+3)
deaths: 12 (again no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 115 (+6)
active: 34 (-3)

after almost 50 days of strict lockdown, today we are finally allowed out for sports and walks. my morning stroll felt glorious. on the other hand we still need to be very careful, the fact ibiza has had 3 new cases in the last 24hrs clearly shows us the virus is still amongst us.

as for news, we're awaiting the central government's reply to the request made by the balearic government to be put straight into phase 1 of deescalation from monday 4th may still. not sure those three new cases just put a spanner in the works for that. still though, the number of active cases is going down quickly now here as well as on the balearics generally.

daily update 3rd may

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1908 (+6)
deaths: 197 (no new casualty in last 24hrs)
recovered: 1284 (+16)
active: 427 (-10)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 161 (no new case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (again no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 115 (-)
active: 34 (-)

it's sunday so numbers need to be taken with a pinch of salt, but still...the national numbers are the best in 50 days, less than 1000 newly infected people (838) and less than 200 deaths (164) detected in the last 24hrs. plus on the positive side 1600 recovered people which is double than the newly infected number. various autonomías (baleares being one of them) only have single digit new cases and also there have been a few autonomías apart from the balearics that haven't had any casualties in the last 24hrs.

news:
  • ibiza won't be going into phase one tomorrow in the end. only formentera does on the balearics. ibiza stays on the original plan to go into phase one on 11th may https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...bierno-excluye-ibiza-entrar-fase/1140461.html
  • so tomorrow we officially go into phase zero. hairdressers can take clients again (on appointment only) and use of face masks will be compulsory on public transport as from this monday onwards https://www.diariodeibiza.es/nacion...a-obligatoria-transporte-publico/1140365.html
  • when in phase one (currently planned for 11th may start), up to 10 people are allowed to meet - respecting the security distance. and also, rather than only at 30% of their capacity as originally announced, restaurants that have terraces will be able to run at 50% of their capacity already from phase one onwards.
  • gonna state the obvious but it's lovely to be able to go outside again a bit! summer has pretty much arrived and the sea this morning was crystal clear in playa d'en bossa.

daily update 4th may

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1908 (no newly detected case in the entire autonomic region in last 24hrs)
deaths: 197 (no new casualty in last 24hrs)
recovered: 1294 (+10)
active: 417 (-10)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 161 (no new case in last 24hrs)
deaths: 12 (again no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 116 (+1)
active: 33 (-1)

best numbers ever. no new case in the entire balearic archipelago and second day without any deaths too, but also on a national level it's really looking promising now. only 356 newly detected cases in the entire country compared to 2441 newly recovered patients (how's that for a ratio). as usual, the tuesday figures will be the important ones though as often the weekend recount experiences some delays so let's take the numbers with caution for now. still though, what a way to start a sunny new week. another detail is that in ibiza it's been 27 days since anyone new entered an ICU which means that all the new cases we've had in the past month have been mild. the main covid guy here in spain yesterday also said that it seems to be a general trend where new cases are apparently mostly mild (a bigger percentage than a month ago)

resuming, let's not get too euphoric yet, but each and every sign is pointing in the right direction currently.

news:

lastly, here are two snapshots of how bloody beautiful ibiza looks right now. playa d'en bossa this morning and puertas del cielo area this weekend sometime..

daily update 5th may

numbers:

balearics:
total cases: 1910 (+2)
deaths: 198 (+1)
recovered: 1307 (+13)
active: 405 (-12)

ibiza & formentera:
total cases: 162 (+1)
deaths: 12 (again no new casualty in last 24hrs )
recovered: 116 (-)
active: 34 (+1)

spain keeps going in a very favourable direction numbers wise. less than 1000 newly detected cases (867, and more than half of those come from madrid and catalonia whilst most other regions have very few new cases), less than 200 casualties and over 2000 newly recovered people in the last 24hrs.
