Cocoon 2016

Your not on your own here I have thought the exact same for music on (without going off topic) but going to grin and bear it! Might try going up the stairs though and say i didnt know i wasnt allowed up them if they get arsey

They can only say no i spose

ha, if you don't try bribing the bouncer you won't even stand a chance, and much less at music on

Yes great review Stivi! I'm hoping to have the stamina to last the duration at this years cocoon closing, especially after hopefully participating in a full session at space closing. Pains me to say it but I might have to miss circoloco this time round.

oh I think circoloco on the 3rd of october will be a rather quiet one...but prove me wrong. even cocoon closing will suffer a bit from it I think

last two hours were pure sven trademark trippy early morning stuff. definitely not something for everyone (and I thought you could actually tell), but I just love it.

Although i am one of those people who would probably fall into the "not for everyone" category for this one, i do love the variety that you get with Sven. You can see him countless times and never get the same set. Last year at my Cocoon venture in June I really didnt love a lot of what he played in his open to close (i found it very slow) but the set he did at Time Warp in Brooklyn was just unreal and couldnt have possibly been more different. Sounds like it was some really great tunes heard and proper partying. Just reading this makes me even more excited for my first Sven main room set at Cocoon Sept 12! Also i couldn't agree more about that Sabor Latino track, that is just a fantastic one, imagine that must sound delicious in a big room.

Taking my gf on her first trip to Ibiza on the 19th September, torn between circo loco and cocoon, doubt she'll have the stamina to do both tbh

I think that little insight has just swayed me from solumun on the sunday to the 12th sep for cocoon, this might be my last hurrah for a while and i do love amnesia..

ok got all my senses back together, time for a review of cocoon this past monday.

got there at 2am. just got the very last tune of carola pisaturo in the main room and saw ilario alicante taking over and going down a straight techno route. switched over to the terrace after a bit and got the last 30mins or so of nina kraviz. have to be honest there, I normally don't like her pretty nervous style of playing and her dancing attics aren't my cuppa neither, but this time I really did like the stuff she played. you'll surely have seen in videos that lately she's almost always playing an old trance classic or two and this time it was this one...

then it was time for sven. a good set, starting almost a bit tech housey, then going into techno and the last two hours were pure sven trademark trippy early morning stuff. definitely not something for everyone (and I thought you could actually tell), but I just love it. here's an example of what sort of tracks I mean...

one thing I do have to say is that this very monday, I did think it wasn't the best crowd ever. but in fairness, you never get the best crowds in august...and that does show, even at cocoon.

amnesia then closed at 7am but luckily that didn't mean it was all over because there were afters! at the kave - don't ask where it is or how to get in because I just won't be able to give any more info. I just have to admit that I am one of those lucky guys that mostly gets to go to their afters, but let me be clear, I never take this for granted and every time go, I am very much aware of how privileged I am in that very moment. we got to the afters at 10am and I got another 12 (!) hours of sven there. things started of a bit quiet again first, with tunes like this one... (SUCH A TUUUUUNE)

and then, even though it was an aftehours and about 2pm, it turned into a real uncompromising techno monster for a good while (say maybe for 2 hours, maybe more) before it got a bit more chilled again with stuff like that around 6pm

(this is easily one of my favourite tunes of all summer, heard it first at cocoon opening afters, found out what it actually was a few weeks later and have been hooked to it ever since).

after having heard more than 15hrs of sven playing almost exclusively recent stuff (and quite a few times me thinking 'what the f*** is this?'), he only delved into a very few classics towards the end. two tracks he often plays towards the end, and he did include them yesterday, were lil louis' french kiss and superpitcher's remix of the mfa's 'the difference it makes'.

cocooned and satisfied, both musically and having danced until my feet hurt, I can't just help but being a fan of what they do.

Do you "shazam" or just know your tunes well dude?

Agreed, Sven played loads of new stuff last week. He dusted off quite a few recent tracks that I had never heard him play before. My favorites from the bunch, including a few vinyl-only releases I hadn't known about...needless to say I had to rush a mail order or two on Wednesday :)

Alex & Digby - Angolan Rumble

Traian Chereches - Wols (not on YT or SC but you can preview here, it's the B side: http://www.viniil.com/vinyl/bech-020-traian-chereches-ravebaby-ep-12-be-chosen)

Simian Mobile Disco - Staring At All This Handle

Love Over Entropy - Sea

Eduardo de la Calle - Quasicalligraphic (an oldie but goodie)

KiNK - Valentine's Groove

There also were copious amounts of Dundov, Tim Green, KiNK, and Eduardo de la Calle tracks.

Sven ended at Amnesia with this Tim Green track and played it again at peak hour the next day..

I'm still banging my head trying to find a few others that I was convinced at the time were familiar enough I could track down without Shazam...sadly not so. Expecting to spend way too long sifting through Beatport and YouTube this weekend ;)

Stivi if you could help, just curious as to guaranteed entry at amnesia. ive bought a ticket for Cocoon closing on spotlight and plan to go DC10 first then cocoon. Amnesia website says the following "Amnesia Ibiza only provides the guarantee entry through the tickets purchased on this website" does that mean if I turnt up at 2-3am with the spotlight ticket I could be waiting for hours? if so would you advise cancelling and buying from tehm direct?

we are an official ticketing partner of amnesia and you will have absolutely no issues getting in with our tickets.

amnesia simply have put this statement up to prevent any fraud attempts/issues.

That's Stivi! Just wanted to make sure, what the usual waiting time when getting to cocoon at 2-4am? And what time do you recon it will finish up?

you'll be in very quick with presale tickets.

as for closing times for this year's amnesia closing parties such as cocoon, hyte, music on and then the actual venue closing party, honestly no idea yet. so far the 7am rule has been followed as far as I know. as many other clubbers, I also hope the first week of october will be a bit more relaxed in this sense but I just don't know any more on this for now
