ok got all my senses back together, time for a review of cocoon this past monday.
got there at 2am. just got the very last tune of carola pisaturo in the main room and saw ilario alicante taking over and going down a straight techno route. switched over to the terrace after a bit and got the last 30mins or so of nina kraviz. have to be honest there, I normally don't like her pretty nervous style of playing and her dancing attics aren't my cuppa neither, but this time I really did like the stuff she played. you'll surely have seen in videos that lately she's almost always playing an old trance classic or two and this time it was this one...
then it was time for sven. a good set, starting almost a bit tech housey, then going into techno and the last two hours were pure sven trademark trippy early morning stuff. definitely not something for everyone (and I thought you could actually tell), but I just love it. here's an example of what sort of tracks I mean...
one thing I do have to say is that this very monday, I did think it wasn't the best crowd ever. but in fairness, you never get the best crowds in august...and that does show, even at cocoon.
amnesia then closed at 7am but luckily that didn't mean it was all over because there were afters! at the kave - don't ask where it is or how to get in because I just won't be able to give any more info. I just have to admit that I am one of those lucky guys that mostly gets to go to their afters, but let me be clear, I never take this for granted and every time go, I am very much aware of how privileged I am in that very moment. we got to the afters at 10am and I got another 12 (!) hours of sven there. things started of a bit quiet again first, with tunes like this one... (SUCH A TUUUUUNE)
and then, even though it was an aftehours and about 2pm, it turned into a real uncompromising techno monster for a good while (say maybe for 2 hours, maybe more) before it got a bit more chilled again with stuff like that around 6pm
(this is easily one of my favourite tunes of all summer, heard it first at cocoon opening afters, found out what it actually was a few weeks later and have been hooked to it ever since).
after having heard more than 15hrs of sven playing almost exclusively recent stuff (and quite a few times me thinking 'what the f*** is this?'), he only delved into a very few classics towards the end. two tracks he often plays towards the end, and he did include them yesterday, were lil louis' french kiss and superpitcher's remix of the mfa's 'the difference it makes'.
cocooned and satisfied, both musically and having danced until my feet hurt, I can't just help but being a fan of what they do.
