Cocoon 2016

I thought Solomun was good with Dixon a couple of weeks back

Yeah I was at this one and had a blast.

I like the way Solomun structures his sets. It can get quiet at times, but he can always be relied upon to keep people moving for hours bringing people back up after a plodding filler or two.

Few other mates didn't really feel the vibe in there though, so I can appreciate he's not for everyone and like any DJ he has great nights and ok ones.

Stivi whats the score with the €20 extra balcony access at Amnesias other nights on the calendar? Is it just not available for cocoon, hyte and music on? Cheers

The funny thing is, i actually did search it and didnt come across the answer before i was reading posts from the dark ages.

Cheers, i take it that the balcony is just for for paying vip table users on thise nights then

Think you can still get up there for a sit down...just go to walk up the stairs like you know what you are doing, and you might well make it. It's not all that up there though, really just good for a sit down and there is a bar etc. Sound not great. Wouldn't want to spend my whole night up there.

Im certainly no vip and would never pay to think i was lol, i was purely asking about the balcony because my missus struggles with the masses at Amnesia and if it were possible to like you say pop up the balcony for a drink and a breather for 5 min then it would certainly enhance the longevity of my night as she would be happy as larry.
When you go out front for a smoke the security are constantly telling you to stand up if you have a sit down.
I have read before if you approach the stairs in the right way they are known to just let you up.
Are the stairs behind the bar across from the stairs to the toilets?

Stairs I usually use are to the right as you walk down towards the dj booth in the terrace room. A bit past the toilets I think.

ok got all my senses back together, time for a review of cocoon this past monday.

got there at 2am. just got the very last tune of carola pisaturo in the main room and saw ilario alicante taking over and going down a straight techno route. switched over to the terrace after a bit and got the last 30mins or so of nina kraviz. have to be honest there, I normally don't like her pretty nervous style of playing and her dancing attics aren't my cuppa neither, but this time I really did like the stuff she played. you'll surely have seen in videos that lately she's almost always playing an old trance classic or two and this time it was this one...

then it was time for sven. a good set, starting almost a bit tech housey, then going into techno and the last two hours were pure sven trademark trippy early morning stuff. definitely not something for everyone (and I thought you could actually tell), but I just love it. here's an example of what sort of tracks I mean...

one thing I do have to say is that this very monday, I did think it wasn't the best crowd ever. but in fairness, you never get the best crowds in august...and that does show, even at cocoon.

amnesia then closed at 7am but luckily that didn't mean it was all over because there were afters! at the kave - don't ask where it is or how to get in because I just won't be able to give any more info. I just have to admit that I am one of those lucky guys that mostly gets to go to their afters, but let me be clear, I never take this for granted and every time go, I am very much aware of how privileged I am in that very moment. we got to the afters at 10am and I got another 12 (!) hours of sven there. things started of a bit quiet again first, with tunes like this one... (SUCH A TUUUUUNE)

and then, even though it was an aftehours and about 2pm, it turned into a real uncompromising techno monster for a good while (say maybe for 2 hours, maybe more) before it got a bit more chilled again with stuff like that around 6pm

(this is easily one of my favourite tunes of all summer, heard it first at cocoon opening afters, found out what it actually was a few weeks later and have been hooked to it ever since).

after having heard more than 15hrs of sven playing almost exclusively recent stuff (and quite a few times me thinking 'what the f*** is this?'), he only delved into a very few classics towards the end. two tracks he often plays towards the end, and he did include them yesterday, were lil louis' french kiss and superpitcher's remix of the mfa's 'the difference it makes'.

cocooned and satisfied, both musically and having danced until my feet hurt, I can't just help but being a fan of what they do.

Great review Stivi... You really cannot beat Cocoon.

I'm fortunate enough to be over for Cocoon Closing this year, something I've wanted to do for a number of years. I'm really hoping that the closing times are going to be extended for the closing parties. I know there has been endless debate on here surrounding Amnesia closing earlier this season and at the end of the day it isn't the "be all and end all" of things - but for Cocoon Closing it would be a shame to see it finish earlier than usual.

When I went a few years ago it finished about 10am if i remember correctly. Then the afters was at Sal Rossa Beach Club from 12 noon until midnight! I actually enjoyed the afters more than cocoon closing itself!

Obviously a lot has changed in a few year though!!
