Chelsea vs Barcelona

I think in Spain they called it "hermandad" or something.. its when two sets of fans from different countries decide to follow eachothers teams. I think Barcelona is also linked with Inter Milan (or Lazio not sure) .. I know Villareal have it with Celtic fans.

Maybe Barcelona have it with the West Ham fans too.. Well Lynch, thats another reason for you to like Barcelona!! ;)

Ah! thanks.

By the way, nobody says anything about Villareal or Juve? I've been told that Juve game was pathetic, as per normal, boring crapt italian football.

ahhh come on sil, there is a beauty about how the great Italian sides defend, being a Man City fan it's nice to see a good defence now & then

8) Juve were SOOO lucky.. the german keeper handed them the ball in the last minute of the game.. bloody italians.. ;)

Was very happy to see Villareal go through

By the way, I was right about Barcelona and West Ham

yeah there was something similar with Man City & Torino once, think it was sommat to do with them having our away kit as their home strip in the mid 80's and the obvious mutual respect for being 2nd team in town etc.

Its a shame he was cheering on Chelsea last night though!

It was funny, just as the game ended the camera panned the crowd and came to rest on these two rowdy-looking types cheering and holding up a West Ham flag! Jon's eyes perked up and we were all laughing thinking what the hell are WHUFC fans doing at the Barca game :?

Shame they cant raise any talent of their own then hey? Maybe one day!

how many current West Ham players on the pitch at the end of the England game? ;)

I'm talking about talen raised through youth FC, not who has the most money at this present time so can afford to poach players because they cant raise any themselves!

Raised from the West Ham Academy...

Cole
Lampard
Ferdinand
Defoe
Carrick

How many from Spurs youth academy (if they've even got one?!)

mourinho admitted (to UEFA) that he lied (in a portuguese magazine) about the frisk/rijkaard incident last year after saying he saw them together in the ref's room. scumbag!!!
Not altogether correct. He wrote in his Portuguese article was that he had seen Rijkaard in Frisk's room. What he admitted later was that it wasn't he who actually "saw" it, but 2 of his assistants (when he wrote it he meant "seen" in the sense of "understood" if you get the drift0

What the assistants DID see was Rijkaard in the ante-room outside of Frisk's changing room. They thought that this area was part of the referee's room, since it is beyond both teams' changing rooms and is visible from a rear entrance to the changing rooms. It was a mistake on their part, but an honest one as they aren't experts on the Barca stadium layout.

And as I said before, the coviently-surpressed UEFA report corroborates this and the fact that Rijkaard made 3 attempts to talk to the ref during halftime.

Leaving all the rubbish surrounding this game aside, I want to talk about the actual football.

I thought Barca learnt there lesson from last year very well. It was probably our most defensive home display of the season, and we realised that sometimes you cant simply use the all-out-attack idea.

What do the Chelsea fans make of Mourinhos tactics last night? I personally think he got it very wrong, or his players didnt listen to what he asked them to do. Lampard rarely got into our half. Where were his runs from midfield?? Why were Chelsea so scared to send men forward? even if we scored one, they still had to score two.
Why not risk it with Drogba and Crespo at the same time?? What did they have to lose??!

I think Chelsea went out rather tamely yesterday... having said that it was Ronnie that made the big difference again.8)
I'm trying to figure out if it was the tactics or the execution. With Cole, Robben and Duff on at the same time and playing in a 4-2-3-1, I thought it was going to be an attacking formation. It turned out to not really be one, at least not in the first half.

I thought Chelsea put on a great defensive display, as you'd expect. I think the 1-1 result shows that we had Europe's best offense (Barca) against its best defense. But that wasn't really what Chelsea needed last night. Crespo should have started the game. Putting on Huth with the intent of sending long balls forward was a lame idea.

Credit to Rijkaard for going with 2 defensive midfielders, and to the team for keping the attack up anyway. Good defensive display by the Catalans, mainly by keping the ball away from Chelsea's timid attack.

And what of Lampard? I think his hamstring injury silenced him.
