Chelsea vs Barcelona

Chewie, lets not get round to the behaviour of the Tottenham fans when Campbell went back to White Hart Lane.. every club has got a few idiots for fans!

"i love the club" etc... then leaving for the arch rivals once into his final year of his contract kinda makes any verbal abuse warrented.

still i can see why they spat at the coach. didnt the manager do something similar during Italia 90.

Barca tonight for me also! However if Chelsea get a quick first goal then the game could shift balance. Tbh i cannot see Barca NOT scoring so hence why my prediction tonight will be 2-2.

Barca throo!:!:

or the liverpool fans who threw bananas at John Barnes on his debut eh??;)

suppose it makes a better story to bend the truth a little..........and not that it makes it alright but it was in fact everton fans at the first derby match after he'd signed and incident was blown out of all proportion anyway. my bluenose mate said it happened near him and there was a total of 3 bananas thrown (and skins only - scousers don't waste good food like that;) )

Man of high moral standing:lol:- apparently went round the Man Utd dressing room during the FA Cup Final telling his team mates he was going to be playing for Inter Milan the following season.....A week before Inter got in touch with Man U with a view to buying him!!!

Au Contrare

It was at Highbury in August 87, he went to take a corner at which point some of the away fans (Liverpool) threw a number of bananas onto the pitch, in some kind of badly judged welcome to Liverpool gesture, I know a gooner who was there and remembers it well, also Nick Hornby also mentions it in "Fever Pitch"

MOurinho is doing all his best to distract attention, he prefers media talking about him than talking about the game.

Reijkaard asked Barça supporters to welcome MOurinho with a warm clapping hans. Reijkaard is cool 8)
Sorry, Sil, but that's wrong. He draws attention to himself to keep it off the players so that they can focus on the game with less pressure. You may not like the tactic (many don't), but it tends to work.

As for the warm welcome, where was Rijkaard when the Barca fans were accosting Mourinho and the players at the airport? You certainly didn't see Chelsea fans doing that last month

IF chelsea can play with even a modicum of style and verve tonight
People are always saying stuff like this but I personally would hate to be a defender when Robben, Duff, SWP or Joe Cole are running at you.

Yes, the team still lacks a solid finisher, but I really don't think you can say these guys (and Lampard) play with a lack of style.

Perhaps there's too much emphasis on defense for the team as a whole, but Chelsea is not without players that very often show attacking flair and skill.

No it's not wrong, the fact is that he is distracting everyone from the game. I'm not discussing if he is an egocentric or if he is the best tactic in the world, it's a fact and you can't discuss it

mmm... is Rijkaard babysitter or responsible of barça supporters? If it's about washing the dirty clothes you won't heard of any barça supporter menacing referees

good to see you don't believe every word that comes out of his mouth morbyd:?

It's nice to hear a different opinion on here for a change though...I've been waiting for that all day. ;)

I sense a hint of sarcasm :spank:

I know he just said that himself yesterday so that's why it's in the news... however, it's a tactic he has been using for years (and definitely since he arrived) so it's nothing new.

Perhaps the Barca players don't menace referees (yes, that was a bad episode for Chelsea d$uring the West Brom game. No defense for it, though the Robben red card was harsh). Fair enough.

But according to the UEFA report (conveniently kept quiet last spring), Frank Rijkaard tried to corner and talk to the ref 3 times during halftime at last year's Nou Camp matchup with Chelsea. He went as far as the ante-room to the referee's changing room, which is beyond the teams' changing rooms. It's only the fact he didn't go INTO the referee's changing room that got Mourinho suspended for what he said post-match.

As for the fans, no, Rijkaard isn't their babysitter (but where were the police?!). Nevertheles, you didn't hear concillatory words from him or especially the Barca players (who was it that said they "hate" Chelsea more that Real?) before the airport incident. As a PR guy, I can say it was a great PR move on his part by giving that speech yesterday.

Morbyd I was talking about Frisk who ended his career after refereing the Chelsea - Barça

Ah, that... yes, that was bad news... I still don't think anyone's figured out who made these threats to Frisk (and was it a Chelsea fan or a bookee?!). But at least it wasn't a whole mob!

On more important issues, Sil.. how do you do that little squiggly thing under the "c"?
