Perhaps the Barca players don't menace referees (yes, that was a bad episode for Chelsea d$uring the West Brom game. No defense for it, though the Robben red card was harsh). Fair enough.
But according to the UEFA report (conveniently kept quiet last spring), Frank Rijkaard tried to corner and talk to the ref 3 times during halftime at last year's Nou Camp matchup with Chelsea. He went as far as the ante-room to the referee's changing room, which is beyond the teams' changing rooms. It's only the fact he didn't go INTO the referee's changing room that got Mourinho suspended for what he said post-match.
As for the fans, no, Rijkaard isn't their babysitter (but where were the police?!). Nevertheles, you didn't hear concillatory words from him or especially the Barca players (who was it that said they "hate" Chelsea more that Real?) before the airport incident. As a PR guy, I can say it was a great PR move on his part by giving that speach yesterday.
