Ibiza is probably very exotic to Americans. The number of and size of the clubs is quite a pull factor. Once you've been to Vegas twice, Cancun three times, done everything once at Mykonos, then Ibiza is next on the list. Ibiza is a proper foreign country, yet still safe.
lol no. Just no.
The only real market could possibly support a 1/2 time flight status is NYC - which is at > 8+ million people.
Even then, you would be looking at MAYBE half full flights 3 days a week. Here's a mid sept RT cost analysis -
Mid sept outbound/return EWR - PMI (because it exists and IBZ doesn't) in Eco - $1369 (8/9+), . . Same routing, same days etc with BA (on Iberia @9.5/11.5) $914.
99.99% of Americans have literally never heard of Ibiza, and if they have it's in rap/hip hop/other songs. It is NOT a desirable destination when compared with Paris/London/Madrid/Berlin/Barcelona/etc. No American who has never been to Europe is going to randomly pick IBZ over any of those destinations unless they are HEAVY into the party scene (and I specifically mean EDM - gross, I know. but it's just the way it is...). The only Americans coming over are electronic music fans, trying to understand what it USED to be like. Or, trying to imprint their EDM culture on IBZ (gross - I know...)
"There are direct flights to Ibiza from Oslo, Norway, a region of only 1,5 million people. This is a leisure route, and only during the season/ 8 week school holidays. There are direct flights from Oslo to at least 15 different airports in Spain. Flights to Barcelona and Mallorca are usually ridiculously cheap. Norwegians can also take a flight to Luton or Schiphol and get a cheap flight from there to Ibiza. Yet there's also a more expensive direct flight to Ibiza."
Cool - OSL - IBZ is ~ 6 hours. On a good day that barely crosses the US. On a good day a cross country RT is ~ $300. That is LA/SF/LV to NYC.
If you are just wanting a party weekend in Vegas, it's half that... JFK to LHR flight time is 7.5 hrs and that only crosses the pond. You are SPOILED for choice and routing within Europe, enjoy it. Trust me, when the airlines figure out how much money they can make of IBZ it'll be truly over...
"Ibiza is not a typically "Norwegian" destination, like say Malaga, Mallorca and Gran Canaria. It's very niche for Norwegians. I haven't met anyone here who has been there. Yet these flights are put on every year, and they seem to be making money." Your recency bias is NOT reality for Americans. That would be like me saying 99% of LA flights to Vegas are full, therefore 99% of LA to NYC flights would also be at 99%. Why would anyone spend 10+ hours crossing the atlantic, plus transfers, plus losing money on currency exchange JUST to party on IBZ? If you live in NYC you already have access to the best clubs in the world, or you can pop over to london, vegas, miami, etc...
IBZ is just not that cool (unless you truly care about music, clubbing, etc.).
You need to understand a couple of things, 1. Americans have almost universally never heard of Ibiza. 2. Why in the world would they spend MORE money to go to a rando island in the Med when they can go to Paris/London/BCN/MAD/DUB/etc. 3. Ibiza for Americans is a song lyric, not a place. TRUST ME - this is a good thing. 4. Exotic for American is almost universally understood to be tropical - i.e. Hawaii/Jamaica/Bahamas/etc. which can be had a FRACTION of what it costs to cross the pond.
You DO NOT want hordes of shitty Americans coming over trying to ask you where brostep is playing, or where Steve Aoki (I know, the irony isn't lost on me...), or honestly any of the night league venues are at....
For the love of god, please keep your island free of these idiots...sigh....I sound like i'm gatekeeping. I'm not, Americans suck ass....and not in the fun way.
From a recent poll:
The results are pretty amazing, and perhaps explain the gaps of knowledge many Americans seem to have of the world:
-- Eleven percent of survey respondents have never traveled outside of the state where they were born.
-- Over half of those surveyed (54 percent) say they’ve visited 10 states or fewer.
-- As many as 13 percent say they have never flown in an airplane.
-- Forty percent of those questioned said they’ve never left the country.
-- Over half of respondents have never owned a passport. (For years U.S. citizens did not need one to travel to Mexico, Canada and on many cruises, which may clarify the previous stat.)
Americans suck. Please do yourselves a favor and stay euro-centric. I beg of you.
BTW - you do you, but if you run into a solo American on holiday do yourself a favor and chat them up. I can almost guarantee they have a fun story, background, *insert random ass story* as to why they on the island. Literally NO ONE gets there by accident (from North America - we can't all fall asleep in a Ryan Air eco seat) and end up in IBZ. Worst case - they are an insufferable c*** (looking at you
@CasaNegron) or they'll regale you with a story about how their (insert family member) was a fun bloke back in the day.
Long story short - Americans are cunts, and you're better off alone.
