Champions League, Gameday #4

and since when has anyone been stopped from having a political view? i dont mind what political stance celtic fans take but i'd rather they never voiced it at the football. i'm only 22 and evern i have seen a MASSIVE difference in the past 8 years of following celtic. we are definitely heading in the right direction on this, but at the end of the day these views are purely political unlike our other bigoted, secterian scum on the other side of the city. by the way i am neither religious nor have any strong feelings on the political side, i just love watching glasgow celtic and the number of people that welcome us to their grounds and cities shows that we're much more than what you think......

Good post - it should definitely just be about football, not politics.
I don't doubt Celtic aren't a huge club, they're massive, but as you say, they need to continue to rid themselves of the elements that are holding them back.
I also believe both Old Firm clubs are as bad as each other. Neither can claim not to have a bigoted, sectarian section of its support. I've been to both grounds (even an Old Firm derby !) and seen it first hand.

Well gee I picked a great match to pop my gooner cherry - we were crying in frustration by the end of it!

Mark - you are clearly a jinx and should not come to any more games - ever! :) Go and support the numpties down the road! :p

Should have been 4-0 up before half time. I can't believe we didn't score one of them.

Yesterday was a great day for bad misses.. Rosicky for the gooners and Helguera for Real Madrid being the worst culprits.

Real's goal was class though, goal of the season.

Caldwell was shocking too, you can excuse the own goal, but that header for the 2nd goal.. why???!!!

its comments like this that really annoy me. i've not doubt that there are idiots that support celtic, with a cross section of people that size it's inevitible, but let me set something straight. we are nowhere near as bad as rangers for secterianism. do you understand what it actually is??

i'm a non-practising celtic suppporting protestant, never been an issue.

we sing songs about celtic, and some of our support (rightly or wrongly) also sing about irish nationalism but this is NOT secterian. they dont hate protestants.

on the other hand, rangers fans sing very little about rangers. their main song is hello hello where they sing they are up to their knees in fenian blood. they sing **** the pope. no pope of rome. and countless other ANTI-CATHOLIC songs. i know what you're trying to say but you cant just get away with the old 'one as bad as the other' jingle, it just doesn't wash these days.

did you know rangers would never sign a catholic until souness signed mo johnstone? they are a bigoted club, always have been and always will be. and while we're far from perfect, we're not in the same league as that shower of shiite.

sorry for the rant but thats my thoughts.

maybe you should have digested my reply before your rant.

"Neither can claim not to have a bigoted, sectarian section of its support".

This is absolutely and undeniably true, and that, for me, makes both clubs equally at fault. You can argue until you're blue in the face (excuse the pun) about the nuances of various songs or the level to which they're sung, but don't let that get in the way of fact.

so whats bigoted and secterian about irish nationalism? i dont think you really understand bigotry or secterianism do you?

so this is what you are effectively saying.......

1000 people in each group.

group A has 1000 people singing bigoted songs.

group B has 10 people signing bigoted songs.

both are as bad as each other? if thats your arguement then there no point in discussing it any more.

its been a pleasure stuart, hail hail ;)

Do Celtic or do Celtic not sing bigoted songs?

The defence rests m'Lord.

in fact, why am I even arguing with you about this, Celtic have an organisation called "Bhoys Against Bigotry" for Christ's sake !

have i not already said we're not perfect?

i bet you couldn't even name a bigoted song or a bigoted chant??

as bad as each other you said, keep in mind what the charge is before resting your case matey ;)

Ive been going to see Celtic regulary since 1990 and i can categorically state that Rangers fans are far far worse when it comes to sectarianism that is 100% fact, geezamenchie is spot on with his comments, im not suggesting there isn't a very small element who go to Celtic who are not sectarian but they are in a small minority compared to a sizeable amount of Rangers fans with their sectarian bile.

And of course Celtic are good enough for the Premiership we would finish top 7 if we would play there.;)

Well maybe so but certain English clubs are riddled with hooliganism and just because you dont hear about it too much thesedays doesnt mean it doesnt still happen.:?

I thinks it's fair to say that every club, in every division, (including the mickey mouse league north of the border) in every country has a certain element of "pond life" amongst it's fan base.

stu has said nothing to back his claim up, can you?

I didn't need to back up my claim, you proved my point for me:

"have i not already said we're not perfect?"

You then decided that it was a numbers game, and that one side was "worse" than the other because a greater number of people sing certain songs.
Which is playground patter, so I left it at that.
But seeing as you want to drag it out as long as possible......

This is why it's impossible to hold a reasonable footballing debate with an Old Firm fan, they are the most stubborn, easily-riled set of supporters i've ever met.
