Car rental Advice

It was my first time driving in Ibiza this year. Needn't have worried; it was completely fine and we went all over the island. Don't seem to have the same moronic drivers we get here in the UK for a start.

Look no further than Moto Luis for your car hire as well.

Enjoy!
Good luck to find a car with moto Luis lower than 70 euro per day . I am talking about economy , full insurance and automatic . No chance. That is why I have stuck with record go.

What the hell has happened to car rental prices  . I just got back from Florida and a 15 night car rental there for a large sedan is less than half the price for 11 nights for economy size car for Ibiza. end of July. Last year for 7 nights in Ibiza for mid-August I paid £267.14 with Keddy.

Now it seems to be around the £800 minimum for 11 nights at end of July.

Anyone know if there is a huge premium for July bookings? update --> there isn't as I checked for August and that's even more expensive!

I also noted that via travelsupermarket the search results also return Renault Trafic vans for about £250 for 11 nights. I wouldn't have any issue driving one of those tbh, only myself travelling. Maybe it's some system error though.

Does anyone think a van would be classed as a commercial driver so as a tourist I wouldn't actually be able to book it?

I have teed up a nicely priced trip for good accommodation and flights only to hit this car rental rip off surprise! I could afford it but just don't like to be so blatantly ripped off.

Maybe I just resort to taxis this time round and if I want to do a further afield island road trip can hire a car on an individual day basis...

I've worked out what's going on with these car rental prices. When I enter a rental for exactly 1 week some listings are back down to the normally expected prices and about a third or even less of the prices for 11 days. Ridiculously this also means that 2 weeks can be far cheaper than 11 days since it also must use the 1 week rate whereas 11 days must be using a much higher daily rate! .That said looks like some providers are sticking only to a daily rate.

I am seeing the same thing on several car rental search sites. I have had 11 night rentals in Ibiza before and don't remember this however that was years ago so maybe this pricing policy has been around a while. The past 2 years I went were 7 night trips so I didn't notice this issue.

Surely there must be a rental provider out there that can recognise 11 night duration at the longer term weekly rate so will keep searching and contact them directly if necessary.

Also seems late night/early hours morning pickup/drop off times can mess with the prices. I suppose that will likely be 'out of hours' charges however it isn't transparent in pointing that out as the reason for a 1 week rental being say £30-40 higher than a 1pm pick up/drop off.

So perhaps the most sensible approach value-wise will be to go for a 7 day rental during office hours and I can go without a car for a couple of days at the start and end of the trip :D . Just a bit annoying though as I always feel leaving your luggage in the car boot on the final day when you have a night flight is less risk than leaving it in the hotel luggage store room.

Some car rental companies have a surcharge for late/early pick up or drop off. And some companies are simply closed outside of their regular office hours, thus disappearing from search results.

I just tried searching for a rental car between July 20-21 on check24.de (a German price comparison portal), it shows an automatic Peugeot 208 or similar for 504€ from the K-10 rental company (with 1300€ deductible). Even adding extra insurance, it would be way cheaper than the 800 GBP. Try different rental car comparison websites, maybe you will find a good deal.

It's most likely less safe. But the hotel luggage room can cost you an hour or two to come back and retrieve the luggage. I personally leave the luggage in the car boot, but I can afford to have my luggage stolen - there is nothing really valuable there.

Never had anything stolen from me on my 15 Ibiza trips so far. I imagine I am too much trouble for stupid thieves, and genius thieves probably observe me through hidden cameras in hotel rooms and thus know there is nothing of value to steal from me :D

I've always found Moto Luis decently priced. Check them direct on their website & plus point they are on airport.

Can also used the code for 5% discount of DMUFFIN (sorry)

Oh and get insurance for the year separately before you go. Loads cheaper and covers for any other trips.

Yeah I ended up checking them this afternoon before coming back to this thread and they've ended up the best option as their day rate isn't that much higher than the cheaper weekly rate offered by some of the bigger players. I follow Dwayne M's YT channel and was looking for his discount code but hadn't found it yet so thanks for posting it.

My current thinking is an 8 day hire with Moto Luis and just use their San An office for pickup/drop off and use the airport hotel bus transfers that are part of my holiday booking. Not used transfers for many years but figured that I don't really need a car on my first 2 full days as can stay local. And dropping it back on midday on my final day also saves another day on the hire. Contradicting myself though as I'd have to use the hotel luggage store after all :D . Tbh though I was at same hotel last year and I used it for a few hours for the suitcase only (not electrical valuables which I kept with me or in car) and it seemed secure enough. Usually always someone on reception which faces the luggage room and they give you a key and take the key back. Main reason I've never fully trusted hotel luggage stores goes way back many years to the 'trauma' of my hand luggage being nicked from a hotel luggage room in Zante :D.

On the wider subject of other rental providers as may be helpful to others looking to book. I did find a few more this afternoon providing the cheaper weekly rates even against 11 day hires. Could be they didn't appear in previous results because I was searching in the early hours of morning and their systems down for maintenance. All the weekly rate ones are off airport shuttle service providers, but some shocking reviews about on them (Goby, Rent By Car) with mentions of them accusing customers of damage they didn't cause. And I know from experience they can do that as I used OK Mobility 2 years ago and the guy tried to put the blame of a cracked rear bumper on me, but I had photos and video on my phone from when I picked it up and he looked through them then agreed the damage had already been there. I guess when they are way cheaper than the big players that's how they try to make up the shortfall. Last year I used one of the big players as must have been an offer on and I did book it way earlier than this time round.

Booking saga over then :D . Biggest takeaway is my late night flight times including the return being a Sunday, is the main culprit behind the search lists of the main car hire comparison sites excluding all the cheaper rate providers. Though several of the bigger players are not moving from their high day rate even when you try searches within office hours.

Going over next month for 3 nights, staying in Santa Eulalia just weighing up the options, Moto Luis seems a hell of a lot more expensive than others.

As ive still never hired or drove abroad what do I need to look out for in extra charge these companies might try and stitch me for?
