Boycotting the clubs...

we need more than a boycot peeps

we need a whole god damn turnaround

enuf is really enuf

its not just about DC10 or bora bora closing...
its about the comercialisation of OUR subculture for their gain

how dare they treat us like that?

how many times you thought that?
its not on
the health risks....

and the disrespect we are shown...

i was at space chatting to this bird who was ended up giving me a hand massage (no sniggering fols this is serious)

anyway the next thing i know this bouncer has grabbed hold of my face and is shaking it side to side...
thinking i was out of...
bloody cheek
and even if i was thats even more reason not to iinsult me..

some of the stuff that goes on in and on the door of clubs amounts to assault... we have all seen and we all try to block it out and get on with our holidays...

then there is the thrill thing...
if i want to buy a bottle of whiskey i just go into my local offy and away i go...
but relax i know i am protected
i know that in the bottling plant there are strict hygene standards and quality testing...
and the bottle and the top are also safety compliant...
this is one of the things i pay taxes for...
consumer protection...

but thrills and the like
OH NO
thats bad
i just gotta take me chances
but why i am 31 i am a good boy ... i break no other laws
why cant i know the strenght of my party aids
why cant i be as sure that there aint no dodgy sh1t in there like i can with the whiskey...

who the funk do they think they are telling me i can drink
but i cant ave a puff...

its not on...

and then inside the clubs
scorching heat...
overcrowded
and they charge a bucket for a water
that is a health risk when thrills are involved or if they aint...

this is not right either
if i choose to jump outa plane with nothing but strings and canvas...
then them health and safety dudes and dudettes are all over the place with clipboards ticking boxes and what not...
and if the chute dont open and i am splatted proppa...
then what happens?
them health and safety dudes and dudettes are all over the place ..making sure that all was complied with...

so when was the last time a kid died on thrills did the health and safety thought police check that there was adequate access to drinking water..

they dont do it...
but why not??

i dont know the answers to these questions and i think that makes me angry as i am typing well ard now...

then there is the choons...
the cost of cds...
blimey...

so i download most of mine.,..
but i do buy hed kandi and defected coz you get a nice looking cd and they arent just in it for your wongo
they are in it for the music man...

so the dollar dudes go around closing down cheap or free popular alternatives...
i mean my god man
why should they let peeps have fun at no cost
that is outragous
IS IT FUNK

whats outragous is that at my age with a mortgage and a good job i am still paranoid about my lifestyle and still ashamed of it...

that makes me very angry

so what i have done is made an appointment with

1) my MP
2) my MEP
3) some dude at the spanish embassy

and they are gonna get a right ranting at...

i just hope some one opens a clubbing brand for us clubbers...
a kinda socialist thro back
where the bouncers are not goons
but are there to help ya...
to make sure all is cool...

I´m with you on this :!:

It´s okay to pay big $$$ if you get good quality. And Defected-cd is good example for that. 8)

It´s just wrong if you got to pay 10 euros for a little bottle of water. Extortion. Crime.

Interesting thread everyone.
My view on the topic is that Ibiza is and has been for a while pricing itself out of the market and thus encouraging an economic downturn on the island which will effect mostly the cheaper areas. The amount of people I know who will not go back to Ibiza because it is now too expensive is huge and Im not talking just about clubbers. Im also talking about families.
I believe the island has been getting quieter every year I go and I have been two or three times for the last 6 years. Ibiza thrives and survives on tourism and it seems that it is local authorities goal to change the perception of Ibiza and make it an exclusive destination for all the rich jetset. But is that market big enough to satisfy Ibiza's needs? Also you need to have the high quality infrastructure (plenty of top class hotels, bars, restaurants etc) to satisfy that market. True, Ibiza does have some top class hotels and restaurants but nowhere near enough.
I think what has been going on with Bora Bora, DC10 etc etc in the last few weeks will only serve to speed up the process of smaller areas (like PDB and San An) suffering and hotels/clubs/pubs needing to close down although this all depends on how the season starts off next year.
I will always consider Ibiza as a holiday destination but with certain things changing and prices going up, I may just make one trip a year, rather than two or three.

jeez!

Yes, i was 'upset' that bora bora closed, and yes i am worried about the future for ibiza, but not just the clubbing side.

But all this talk of Boycotting clubs, and not going back to ibiza ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever again is starting to get very, very, very, very, very, very boring, and is starting to wear fine on me now.

Yes i know bora bora made lots of people happy, and that is a good thing, but come on, honestly! Places move on, places evolve.

Just think about when McRackin, vienna, and co were partying to freddie mercury in an open air KU, or when oakenfold and crew first went to amnesia in 87. They thought it couldn't get any better. Little did they know that they were at the begining of something very special.

These people were obviously very upset and worried when clubs had roofs installed, and more, and more clubs were built, and more, and more tourists were coming.

Something bigger and better is always round the corner.

yes, i will be going next year, and yes i will be going to whichever club has a lineup that makes my sense's bubble regardless its space, pacha et al.

You should to.

sorry, rant over.

That's kind of why i started the thread.

A revolt just wouldn't ever happen, the ibiza tourists can't do anything about anything and wouldn't boycott as I said before because:

Secondly, who of you would seriously not attend your fave ibiza superclub when the line up is amazing out of protest? I'm sorry but not me!

BUT..........

Still the best holiday you ever had dude. :p

absolutely it was
LOVE that place
still them cnuts that take advantage of us should be made to listen to heavy metal

I think Lee is true when he said they're trying to be more elitist. They seem to be trying to create a new Marbella, Saint-Tropez or Montecarlo. They're doing slightly and slowly. So they (the government) seem to think "Long live the money and luxury and down with the live-and-let-live and hedonist way of life".

In addition to this, the big disco owners want to get most of the clubbing cake, the more the better, and thus they're strangling the underground/alternative scene run by smaller promoters and groups (Pin Up, Bora-Bora, Sa Trinxa, the raves, etc), most of them bohemian and alternative people. I personally know some of them, who are the most direct victims.

I think Ibiza needs to get back to its roots and not to become so commercial as it's getting. A bigger underground/alternative scene is needed. It would add up more variety to the island and recover much of the continuously losing magical vibe of the 80's.

I think some of you need a reality check.

I assume Bora Bora is owned by the JET complex? If that's the case, then the JET complex makes it's money from accommodation, therefore, whatever they make out of a place like Bora Bora is cream on top. JET's core business is not clubbing therefore they have nothing to lose by making Bora Bora free or inexpensive since most of their income is derived from other sources.

The clubs like Space, Amnesia, Privilige etc have 4 months to make their money for the entire year and all their money comes solely from operating clubs. Operating a club venue is their core business, so why the hell shouldn't they do everything they can in order to make a profit on their investment. They are business people and they expect to make a return on their investment .

At the end of the day, the profitability of any club is highly dependant on turnover, ie numbers of people through the door. Demand will have an affect on pricing, so at some point, a club will either go out of business or respond to demand by adjusting prices............that's how it works. I noticed more nights this year with lower ticket prices than last year.

But for people to come on here and begrudge a businessman for his right to make a profit on his investment is ridiculous.

I'm as disappointed as any of you about Bora Bora and the others losing their music, but people need to get real.

There got to be new things. There got to be variety. With older, richer, business people there is never going to be good party atmosphere.

By forming cartels & oligopolies, creating barriers to entry for new and smaller businesses, over pricing, colluding with authorities...?! This sort of conduct is frowned upon in any business sector and is legislated against in most countries. If every commercial company did everything they could to make a profit capitalism would fall apart...

Well said! :)

ABUSE OF A DOMINANT POSITION

1. Basic Treaty provision
Article 82 of the EC Treaty does not prohibit dominant positions as such, merely the abuse of such a position in a specific market when it is likely to affect trade between Member States.

a. The concept of the dominant position
It was defined by the Court of Justice in the United Brands case (27/76 of February 1978): a dominant position is "a position of economic strength enjoyed by an undertaking which enables it to prevent effective competition being maintained in the relevant market by giving it the power to behave to an appreciable extent independently of its competitors, customers and ultimately of consumers". The main indicator of dominance is a large market share; other factors include the economic weakness of competitors, the absence of latent competition and control of resources and technology.

Although obviously aimed at the corporate sector and 'big business' there is no reason, why in practice, this legislation should not be applied to the 'Disco mafia'! Ibiza after all is part of the European Union is it not? :D

Power to the people! :D
