Amnesia closing party!

amazing party closing amnesia since 8.AM., magical terrace, mass sit down with luciano!
My friends and I started the sit down-jump up routine when the tune Gabriel Ananda - Dopplewipper was dropped by Luciano - here you go with a video of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC6o-BC8_IQ

Let's see u spotting me in there... ;)

Regarding the party - as u can imagine i was there too, and the combination with Matinee closing was one of the smartest ideas!

I arrived very early at around 1AM and caught all the Matinee DJs and show and plus also some of the residents in the main room shenanigans.
Then when the sun rose and Luciano took over things heated up in a good way (i love you Luci! ;)).
Atmosphere was incredible as many metnioned plus i've met alot of lovely familiar faces (you know who u are) from these forums!

As for Hawtin & Marco Carola - it's a matter of taste but i prefer my DJs to be more than just "laptop DJs", However the music they played was definately great and atmosphere was rocking!

I left at around 2PM and the place was still packed!

I have many videos and pictures from this party, where most of them are already on my Facebook.

BTW Space closing was great as well and there's really no place to compare between the two - they are just very different parties and both awesome and must be done!

My 2 cents :)

If only I'd have read this thread beforehand. We went at 2 and left at 7:30 and missed the main event . Nevermind still a great night and and there is always next year. Speaking of which - Fusion, I understand what you are saying in terms of comparing Space and Amnesia closing, but we can only do a long weekend due to childcare issues, so if you had to do only the one which would it be? The discerning and erudite are rightly favouring Amnesia, but having only missed Space closing this year due to timing issues, and being an old terrace fan, its kinda like an itch needing a scratch. After what was reported to be an average year for Space though, maybe I just need to let go?

I think you need to let the itch go if you can only do one as

a) Space completely messed people about this yr....shows their regard for the people who keep them in business (maybe im being harsh but hey)

b) more importantly...Space is and always will be a world class club. BUT if you are comparing it from what it was to what it has become, it has sadly declined in my view. Clearly not entirely their own fault as was always a daytime venue primarily for most clubbers and so restricted by local politics....but also a victim of its own success in that their music policy appears to have IMO become stuck in the middle and also slightly stale. Probs a bit harsh actually but cracking nights like Matinee and La Troya gone and replaced by Hed Kandi. HK clearly has its place in the Ibiza market....but Space???. If Space was still able to open during the day I have no doubt it would still be loved by all....just hard walking in there thinking I used to rock up here at 8am to queue up for some random afterparty to bounce around on the terrace!

Amnesia on the other hand just seems to go from strength to strength and whilst just as expensive etc seems to give you that bang for you buck club experience that Ibiza is all about. So many good nights, such an amazing sound system and such a great buzz about the place. Think remodelling the terrace last year was a stroke of genuis!

Anyway what a rambling post. Im still at work and its Friday. Sorry. Basically go to Amnesia closing!

The funny thing is most of my friends say they want the music policy (specially in the sunset terrace) to be like the old days, when lets face it, it was a bit on the cheesier side, but then you get loads of the new clubbers (and older ones) who come on here and who say it's too commercial..

Can't be easy to decide the music policy in this situation.

Having said that the music inside the new terrace and discoteca i've always found excellent at Space on a sunday.

But Space has about 7 rooms doesnt it?

They can easily have the variation and cater for everyone.

i was listening to two of the iconic carl cox space terraces mixes today (one from august 99 - the first time the booth was moved to current location - and the other from radio 1 weekend 2000)..................there is the odd moment, but generally the music is as hard and as pumpin and as tough as the techno richie hawtin was boshing at amnesia closing.

One of my biggest regrets is having never seen Cox in the old terrace . I see your point, maybe it was tough at times in the past too. But my long lasting memory of my first Ibiza trip in 2002 was L&B's - Love Story and Shakedown's - At Night (kid creme mix) always going off in Space terrace. Mustve gone to Space 7 times that year, and they never failed to play them.
although most of the times I went were morning after parties so that could explain it.

Thinking about the whole Space v Amnesia closing I think part of the reason why Amnesia was probably better must be the timing. The Amnesia daytime part of the party was after the night session while the Space's was before. after the night session you can handle more cheesy party tracks, it seems more acceptable because you just had 12 hours of tough less known tunes.
Also not to mention the cocoon DJ's have more credibility and are given more slack when it comes to playing cheesy tracks.. for example if someone like Tom Novy had played that "ooh yeah" tune or "hideaway" in the terrace at 9pm lots of people wouldve said "wtf! is this hed kandi?"

So in my opinion Space closing next year should be an 11pm to 8pm type thing!

Ferd you got the exact oposite here;
While at Amnesia closing at night u had the cheesier tunes of Matinee DJs (that was Matinee closing after all) and in the morning after u had the harder more underground sounds of Luciano, Hawtin & Carola,
At Space closing u first had the cheesier tunes on the sunset terrace (played by Alfredo, Novy and the likes) when in the second part at night u had the more underground tunes being played on both the discoteka and terazza.
So your theory was wrong, comprende? :)

actually i think your theory is wrong fusion...........you can't add matinee into the equation because most of the people who go for amnesia closing couldn't care less about matinee, instead they are underground/amnesia/cocoon type fans who were happy to accept the fact that luciano played a really really commercial set (in the context of underground house and techno).........in fact, it was like a greatest hits of the summer.

the fact it was underground music doesn't make it non-cheesy by default, because how cheesy something is all relative.

underground like hideaway, blackwater, and every single other youtube clip ive seen..?!

Yes... all the videos that I've seen of Amnesia Closing have tracks that are not best quality imo...
I don't like the idea of mixing matinee closing+amnesia closing... 'cause amnesia closing has always been one of my fave's... but after seeing all that videos... my opinion is changing...

Maybe the vibe and the atmosphere is great, also in matinee, but not my cup of tea of music.

luciano played luciano........he's been playing blackwater for years (and long may it continue).

the matinee/amnesia mix worried me before, but it had no affect.

anyone who think amnesia closing is getting worse or not as good as before or not underground music or not whatever........couldn't be more wrong!!

So how did the Matinee/Amnesia closing work this year? Did they close for 1 hour or nonstop??

it worked perfectly fine. on the terrace, the matinée dj's played until 7am, then mar-t took over, played a mixed set and like this, switched the whole vibe from matinée style to amnesia closing style, before at around 9:30am luciano took over. and from there, it got better from minute to minute (but even mar-t's set was good already!)!

i am with grego. the combination with matinée had NO affect at all. it was as good as every year.

Ah nice!

So you could enter the Amesia closing with a Matinee ticket (if you were inside already)?
