Then how about some of this....

Followed by.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MYBlSF_HTs

and....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjONGEeOSyQ&ob=av2e

as a chelsea fan, have to go for some of this....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2E3DhK7CSRg

and personal favourite.... (sure this will go down well)!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7yCSCYuCyc

A has been band with no star potential, mildly famous 30 years ago, has no songs outside of England that anyone has even heard of, and is even known to less than one one hundredth of one percent of the English speaking population.

LEGENDARY STATUS FOR THIS ONE ALONE so lets just end the debate here seeing as it probably is one of the two best known songs of the 80's, after 'do they know its Christmas'. Everyone singalong

"21 years in captivityyyyyyyyyy" ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCPw7P7rjSI

this was after the Fun Boy Three split and they had to rename the band to special AKA for legal reasons

After bragging to everyone in work for the last month that i had tickets for ibiza rocks closing party, imagine the laughter when i told them the specials where headlining. seriously i'm devastated. second time in ibiza for me this year and was really looking forward to the closing party after the line up they have had this year. even the older guys in work who where from that era were saying that they think its a joke...
What a mistake. There has never been so much of a reaction to a headliner at ibiza rocks as this.
Dont get me wrong each to their own, but they leave anounncing it till 2 weeks before.... and wait till the majority of people have bought their tickets then announce this and noone can get a refund!!!!

Personally I would love to be there for The Specials.

Give them a chance to perform first................. then slate them.

can understand totally why people aren't into it, but don't get how people can't appreciate it.

they're an iconic band, they've not toured/nor been together for 30 years, so it's pretty unique. they also had much more success in a short period that most of the bands that feature at i-rocks and during an era when it was harder to achieve it.

also, to whoever it was that mentioned electronic(a).....the clue is the name of the party!

I do consider myself a music connoisseur and have not heard a single song by The Specials.

I also expect someone from England to understand that some bands that are big in England have no international appeal or popularity. There is a reason for this. Not every band is the Beatles.

Unfortunately, this is not the type of music that anyone coming to Ibiza from anywhere except England is going to give to shakes of a damn for.

You would expect a Venue like IR for a closing party to at least try to get an act with international appeal...

..And the links you gave will not load on Ufacetweet so booo any way to you.

Your just wrong...and your opinion is too.

blah.

bah humbug on Christmas too.

I wanted to say they're probably just too young to understand, but then I remember you're pretty young too!

But I will say that the Specials were a very UK phenomenon so unless you're a musical Anglophile like me, I could see how non-Brits wouldn't 'get' it.

its hard to beat the music/culture you grow up with, but it doesn't mean you can't like it or get to know it or try to understand it or appreciate it.

e.g. paradise garage.

It's all about open (musical) minds isn't it? And that's what Ibiza is all about!

For goodness sake, a night is what you make of it. Ibiza Rocks has always surprised and although I would have thought that it may not be my cup of tea, I would still attend with an open mind with a mission of having a good time. To write the line up off before the event, given IR's history of exceeding expectations, is just plain naive. In fact, luckily I am on the Island at this time so I can go an see for myself.

Your all a bunch of miserable folk arent you!

The whole point of Ibiza Rocks is something different for the island, hence the reason Courteeners, Kooks, Florence etc have all been on this year, none of them are you typical Ibiza dance acts.

Besides there is bound to be some quality support aswell most probably from a well known DJ or two.

I think they will be good and will definately get the crowd going, and all those saying they havent even heard of them and moaning are the 16 year olds who are going to Ibiza just to jizz over Guetta.

I have traveled a small bit even the States, and in most cases music always comes up in conversations with people I meet around the world. Many that I have spoken to would have heard of the Specials especially Ghost Town as its such an iconic track.

Im not English but Irish. A band that you may be aware of in the states called U2, list the Specials as one of their musical influences when they were starting up. A lot of the English bands of that time were influenced by society and the mood of culture around them and this was reflected in their music.

Ibiza is about the music and the people .....not the bling status or international profile of the act. When you come to experience the unique connection Ibiza and different styles of Music have together, then you may get a better understanding of the place.

Do you see the Light?!

Now if U2 was at the closing party of Ibiza Rocks.

that would be legendary.

still

The Specials are really...

well..to me…

not.

I'll be sure to check out several minutes of the performance from my hotel room as i get myself ready for Umek at Space.

Perhaps with clothing, perhaps not.

Most likely someone without a lot of knowledge of the band will obviously mistake me for one of the 40 year old rockers so I've got that going for me. Perhaps I should consider a disguise to impress the 40 year old menopausal women that Ibiza Rocks will be filled with.

Quick, call MTV and let them know some older women in stretched out and faded leopard print mom jeans will be ready for their close up.

Rock and Roll.
