Cala Gracio Promenade gets Finance.
It was reported last week that the proposed promenade from the end of the port in Sant Antoni, which will pass along the subset strip to Cala Gracio, will be financed & construction can soon start. With the construction costing 900.000€, the promenade will be made up of stone paved sections & lengths of wooden walk ways with integrated lighting as well as creating sightseeing areas & public seating all along the length of the promenade. It appears that more money, around 1 million€, will be invested in tidying up, improving accessibility & creating gardens along the new promenade & other coastal areas of Sant Antoni as well as supposedly re-surfacing the existing promenade in the town.
it should be ready by summer 2007:

the terraces of some sunset bars will disappear so they will have to ask permi$$ion to the town hall to install wood platforms (similar to sugar sea) between the new promenade and the sea:

Cala Gracio Promenade Approved.

With work planned to start in October, the promenade from the end of the port in Sant Antoni to Cala Gracio was approved this week. Divided in to 2 halves with the first section near the port being more urban in nature & made of more normal building & paving materials, the other section from Cala des Moro to Cala Gracio will be made of natural materials sticking as much as possible to the existing footpath which has naturally been worn along the coast. Supposedly the first section will re-state & re-claim for public use & transit the actual official coastal area boundaries thus affecting private properties as well as the terraces of some of the famous sunset cafes in this area. The loss of terraces will supposedly be compensated for by the coastal authorities allowing the bars to set up temporary wooden decking as terraces on the sea side of the promenade each summer & remove them each winter.

just saw on the tv that they will install 5 new cameras instead of 3, which will mean 12 in total!!

for obvious reasons the main subject of today's reunion between josé manuel bar and the san antonio authorities was the new law which bans clubs/music bars from opening between 6am and midday and which will start operating in may..........

Is this deffo going to be the way for the summer? Or do you think there is any way it could be over turned?

Work Starts on Historic Centre.
Work started last week on the reform of the historic centre of Sant Antoni. Costing in total 4 million€, the present phase of the work will last all winter but the Mayor of Sant Antoni is apparently promising that the work will be completed by the 7th March. This week work on replacing the road surfaces, building new pavements, installing new urban furniture, facilities & infrastructures as well as renewing & improving drainage systems & putting telephone cables & electricity cables under ground started in the Calle Ramon Cajal street which was closed to traffic. However, the Calle Dinamarca, Calle Ramon Llull, Calle Progres (between the Alicante street & Calle Soledad), the Calle Sant Antoni (up to the Plaza España) & the Calle Antoni Riquer (from the Calle Ample to the Called del Mar) will also be reformed in the same way. Whilst the work is going on the pedestrian only streets in the West End of the town will be open to normal traffic to ease any congestion which these road works create.
Whilst presenting these road reforms, the Mayor went on to apparently say that he didn't rule out carrying out more improvements to the town over the winter as & when funds became available for other projects the Town Council had in mind.
mid april already and the streets still look like this:

i don't often come to the defence of the construction trade but if i was a qs i wouldn't be looking at the penalty clause for delays. this year ibiza's had one of its wettest winters ever. i couldn't do anything in the garden for three months so think how these guys working in trenches with the storm drains would work. on many occasions san an looked like Passchendaele - drowning in mud.

from the ibiza sun:

More CCTV.

Sant Antoni is to increase the CCTV system installed in the town. 5 more cameras are going to be located in the areas where there are the most problems of law & order whilst at the same time there will be increased police presence & co-operation between the local police force & the Guardia Civil.

This is good news, especially with the world cup this year.....

btw, today diario de ibiza confirms that only san antonio has introduced changes in the closing/opening hours to avoid after-hours (they have to close at 6am and cant reopen till midday, so amnesia wont be able to reopen at 8am like they did once last september):

 http://www.diariodeibiza.es/secciones/noticia.jsp?pIdNoticia=105354

so only extasis, eden, es paradis, privilege and amnesia will be affected by these changes (if someone wants to open an after-hours at summum in the bay, for example, it belongs to san jose sooooo..... .....). this also means that pacha, for example, can continue closing at 7 or 8 which, as paquita cardona from the disco association (and eden) said, its so unfair ! ! ! !

Roads Ready By 15th May.
Jose Sala, Mayor of Sant Antoni, apparently believes that the roads in the town, which are at present being reformed, will be ready for use with at least the main work finished by 15th May. After which perhaps only the finishing touches & certain urban fixtures & fittings will need to be put in place. At the same time Sala announced that next winter 6 more roads will be reformed as part of the plan to increase the commercial dynamism of the old town centre area around the church. These roads are the Ramon y Cajal street up to the Bartolome Vicente Ramon street which will also be renewed. Another part of the Calle Progresso will be improved as will the Soledad & Cervantes streets along with the Balanzat road.
Not only improving the historic centre of Sant Antoni, the Town Hall has plans & funding to improve 5 rural roads in the Sa Serra, Santa Agnes & Sant Mateu areas of the borough.

Will this be all summer round or just when the schools are on?? Wonder what time the foam at amnesia and the water at es paradis will come into play (usually 6am)

last year it started at the end of the season so some people thought it would be that way this year, which is not true..... at least not in the case of san antonio. san antonio knew that the new law the balearic government is preparing to regulate the opening/closing times of this kind of business in the balearic islands would take ages to be passed so they created their own version which, according to them, will be ready by may and which, i suppose, will disappear once theres one for all the islands..... or maybe it will happen the same than with the anti-smoking law, the one in the balearics (approved first) is a bit different than the spanish one so we are still wondering which is the good one!!
