I think before the start of tonight's game, most of the World wanted France to win purely for Zidane - at least I know I did. One of the best players I can recall in my lifetime. It's not that I didn't want Italy to win, I guess the romance of watching Zidane bow out of the game clutching the trophy appealed to me. Just can't believe he did what he did. Absolutely gutted - although totally deserved. Just can't my head round it.

Well done to Italy. Deserved champions of a great World Cup. Just a shame it's tinged with sadness :(

I agree, even though it is very tempting to bi*ch-slap someone who just would not shut-up. Who knows, maybe Zidane was trying to impress some NFL scouts.

He used the hardest bone in the human body on Materrazi. If his head would have been low enough to connect to the soft floating ribs Materrazi would have been out for 6+ months.
 
Agreed, Never thought I'd say it but I wanted the french to win (its one better than cheering for the jocks!!) purely for Zidane's send off, but this was appalling. What an awful end to an amazing career... No less than he deserved.
 
Congrats to ITALY, YAY! For the asshole Zidane, there is no excuse for that head-smash what he did. Players nag and say ugly things for each other all the time. That wasn't the first time and surely not last either. The difference is that some players can manage the pressure better than others.
 
Or perhaps he fancies a Vinnie Jones style career in the movies now he's hung up his boots? Cantona got a few acting gigs as well I believe :lol:

Nobody is going to defend Zidane for doing what he did, I just think its a sad and ugly end to one of the gretest ever footballers career. Still bemused.

It wasn't surprising, he usually did things like that, so he got what he deserved
