Latest Ibiza news confirms that May, June and July wont be happening with limited levels of tourists in August (25%) and September (50%) Looks like UK citizens will have to wait even longer however. ?

See you in 2021.

"There are countries like the United Kingdom that have taken too long to adopt containment measures and that also puts us in a different situation with respect to them," said the minister.

A full 9 days behind Spain, I think he's stretching that one a bit.

Interesting philosophy from this minister. Does he have something against the UK, seams a tad discriminatory.

I wonder if he can he bang it out on an official letterhead for me, so I can get my money back maybe.

Agreed and by July-September or whatever what difference does it make. Odd comment, maybe they don’t need tourism after all

Without containment, a delay of 9 days means 8x as many infected people (the doubling time without containment measures was 3 days). The math behind the virus spread is brutal.

And with containment measures in place, the number of infected people will drop only by a modest amount each day, and not by half every 3 days. So every extra day of delay introducing containment measures likely means at least an extra week of lockdown.

I don't doubt that is true.

However, Spain is still well ahead of the UK, and the UK has a higher population by 20 million.

Uk - 103k cases

Spain - 183k cases

Maybe they should ban themselves (mainlanders) from Ibiza :)?

It's a Spanish article, so maybe something is lost in the translation? Or that minister is gaffe prone?

Quite a sizable chunk of the tourists to Ibiza come from the UK from what I can gather.

Looking at some of the reports on here from Stivi recently, reference jobs and economy, I don't think Ibiza should be too quick to write the Brits off.

I have no idea. Doubt there will be a quota. Either external tourism will be open or not. There will not be someone with a click counter.

Maybe Spain opens internal for July, followed by EU passports in August, then everyone else in September (exclusive of known hot zones). ? ? ?

Assume based on flights only being allowed into the country from specific countries? Countries that have things under control could be allowed to travel. Like current travel bans, there could also be a place of origin person ban, so you couldn’t for example fly through Barcelona to get there.

I thought it was a bit strange specifically calling out the UK this early? 3.5 million British tourists last year and the highest percentage of tourists from any country go there.

‘Juan Miguel Costa, director of the Ibiza Island Council, said: “Ibiza depends largely on British tourism and despite Brexit uncertainties, they forward to warmly welcoming many more British visitors in the forthcoming months.
“Ibiza has been a traditional British holiday destination for decades, in fact, many of our tourists come year after year to the island on their own, or with their families and friends — they are very loyal to us and we are committed to them as well. Our tourists have become part of the family, Ibiza is part of you.‘

I’m still booked for September and keeping fingers crossed, just not feeling as optimistic when I look at the wider picture. People may still be able to go, but potential of no clubs being open? How would people feel about that?

we have been going every year for a decade now and if a no club option is all that's on the table then without a doubt its still going down, far more to the beautiful island than just the clubs. they are just a very sweet bonus

Beyond the clubbing market, I’m sure the Greek and Turkish Tourism Board are taking note.
we are due to go to Athens at the end of August and I was reading somewhere they are saying no form of tourists to step foot in Greece till there is a vaccine, very big statement from a country that is only just showing signs of growth after a lengthy period of serious struggle ..gotta feel for them

maybe that's because they've so far got an outstandingly low number of covid-19 cases (2000 only) and wanna keep it like that with those measures.

For me I go to Ibiza to party so no clubs open would mean that I would skip going this year even if travel bans lifted etc
