What's the weather like at the moment?

First time ever we are getting leaks in our roof this winter, it has been rather wet 😂😂
Sorry to hear that and hopefully not too bad.

We had a massive leak (instant indoor swimming pool!) during the bad storms in October but thankfully the roof was fixed and (touch wood) nothing else so far.

Ibiza homes are definitely not built for this much rain and colder temperatures!

quick update here, for now it looks like we're in for a pretty 'wintery' holiday season here on the balearics. currently it's grey, it rains a little here and there and even though we might get some sun too in the next days, the long term forecast predicts a probably wetter and for now also cooler christmas period than what we're used to normally - if the forecast is right, daily high temp might be only around 12ºC or so during the last few days of the year which is quite chilly.

as usual, we'll see how it all pans out in the end

turned out pretty much exactly like this eh.

and yeah, wettest balearic xmas I‘ve ever experienced. we still need more rain, but I'm also happy the sun‘s bsck out now for a few days

ok guys - residents, enjoy the good weather while it lasts (until friday), because the next rainy front is underway and it looks like we're in for potentially another full week of rain starting from saturday.

interestingly enough, even though we really had quite a rainy autumn and winter so far (a lot of older ibicencos and mallorquines tell me 'it's like in the good old days this year'), all that rain is still not even nearly enough to make up for that big deficit we've accumulated over the last few dry winters (and obviously us humans simply using too much water). the acquifers have gone up to just under 50% of their capacity now which is astonishing taking into account the heavy rainfalls we had since the end of september. also, I've just come back from mallorca and the two big water reservoirs up in the tramuntana mountain range (which basically is palma's tap water) are also just half full. impressive to see that, one would think they would be full to the brim.

so yeah, even though it's very lush and super green everywhere now and we've had quite a bit of rain already this winter, we need more, and more is underway by the looks of it. stock up on books and/or tv series for next week!

More heavy rain this week. All electrics were off for a day in our casa. Unfortunately wifey had to deal with it as I was in Barcelona! Absolutely poured down the chimney.

The East Coast of Ibiza seems to have been more affected by Storm Harry this week, although we did have electricity go for a bit in Cala Salada on Wednesday plus more water damage (no leaks this time, thankfully!). Lots of rain on the island this week and looks like more over the coming days, although sunny here now, if windy. As @stivi says, the island still needs rain although less wind would be nice!

Unfortunately the boardwalks at Talamanca & Figueretas were both damaged by Storm Harry this week, plus plenty of debris washed up along the beaches.

Oh no. Hopefully they will be replaced, such a lovely route along the wooden walkways at Talamanca

Hope everyone on the island is ok after last night’s storms.

Very high winds from around 21:00 and lots of trees down across the island, including over electricity wires. We were thankfully only without electricity for an hour or so and glad we have plenty of candles & head torches in the house.

Whilst strong winds were forecast yesterday and more wind (& rain) this week, I don’t think anyone was expecting it to be so bad (@stivi will know more though) and AEMET only showed a red warning last night.

same here, hope no one was harmed - lots of trees fallen on cars, houses etc so hope everyone is ok.

I've always been a keen follower of what's the weather gonna look like, but ever since I started working as a guide I'm obviously following it much much closer now. as clara said, high winds were forecasted and I do follow some proper weather geeks and the longer the day went, the more they did say 'hang on guys, we might be in for a storm tonight actually'.

I was still in mallorca last night when I texted mrs stivi just after 8pm to tell her to make sure to batten down the hatches as I saw the storm approaching on the radar. thing is, you never know if it's really gonna hit and how badly. but boy it id. mrs stivi was glad I'd warned her.

over in mallorca it came later and wasn't as bad this time. a few fallen trees as well and hail etc, but I think ibiza got it worse this time around!
