What's the weather like at the moment?

proper end of summer and end of season vibes on the balearics right now.

we got some rain sunday into monday and mallorca had flooded areas too (pretty bad in certain zones). today's a very cloudy and windy one. it's still warm and it doesn't look like it's gonna get cold any time soon, but it definitely feels like the end of summer now and very autumnal overall.

it's only my personal view, but I feel like summer 2024 was a more 'normal' one compared to 2022 and 2023 from a weather point of view. both those years it was very hot from june onwards already, this year the very hot period felt shorter. and this year, IMO we didn't really get that extremely good late summer weather as we had gotten used to over the last couple years. this year reminded me of the weather we used to get when I did my first ibiza seasons close to 20 years ago.

what's still there, and still very acute, is the rain deficit. and only a decent winter with regular rainfalls can sort that out. so I am hoping we get a nice wet winter.

to give you an idea, this year's sant mateu wine festival has gotten cancelled because there just was hardly any wine production...because of the lack of rain, combined with the pigeons eating the grapes.

Terrible what happened in Valencia yesterday 😔
Just been watching it on TV - over 10" (250+ mm) of rain in a few hours? That's half the year's rain inside an afternoon. Sad to hear of all the deaths, clearly a terrible tragedy.

absolutely catastrophic scenes on the tv last night. one woman winched away by a helicopter clutching a dog, the only thing she had left. So unbearably sad
