In the US it was all about suburban teenage angst. Or boredom. Or both :lol: We were all very, very depressed. And the world was unfair. And we all joined Amnesty Int'l and Greenpeace. And yes, frequent trips to Georgetown (it had some Camden-like shops and movie theaters with foreign films with subtitles...)

My nickname is leftover from that era... along with the discomfort I feel when not wearing at least one article of black clothing :lol:

Disco , funk, soul, northern soul, rare-groove, house music in most of it's forms, techno, trip-hop, some hip hop, chilled stuff like Boards Of Canada and lots of other kinda ambient stuff, 80's synth pop, jazz. Lots of other things you'd probably call world music.

If I'm in the right mood I can listen to some rock stuff but I've really not got much time for it.
 
I'm not a massive house/techno music fan at all myself and more. It is nice to listen to and all, but for me it really needs to be in a club to work. That said i've been listening to daft punks live album recently & that is seriously funkin good.

Don't get me wrong, if I find myself back in Space or Pacha it will all change. And having to get up on my Orbital as I am going to see them at Big Chill.
I lurve radiohead geekly collecting rare tracks, box sets etc. Sigur Ros Aegitis Byrnum (sic? who cares) is the best album of music ever produced - however I believe this is an accepted fact nowadays.

A real jazz musician plays everything that doesn't follow the 'populist' verse/chorus/verse/reprise/repeat/fade mass produced formula.

They are and always have been the true innovators.

big fan of Drum & Bass ... and being from the UK - we are never short of great production & club nights!!

Minimal grooves is also what i like to 'get down' to

Donavon Frankenreiter among many other acoustic artists i love to just chill and mellow out to.
 
As for jazz, I guess it depends on what kind of jazz you're talking about though. For instance, I saw soil & pimp at the worldwide festival in 2006 and although they were pretty entertaining visually, the music was tedious. Sun Ra on the other hand and that spacey sound is much more interesting to my ears. I generally prefer electronic artists who incorporate a jazz aesthetic into their work eg detroit experiment - think twice or recloose - dust and of course, the great disco/philly acts too.
