We Love @ Space - Live Music ?????

2 Many DJ's were at WLS last year and it rocked. As grego pointed out, slightly different than Pete Doherty falling about and slavering on girls in the audience. Punt them out to the car park.

Sorry but EVERY single live act ive seen play in a club has been a disaster and it completely kills the vibe.

Of the Ibiza gigs I've seen (mostly at Manumission) I'd say the ratio is around 50/50.

At the Boutique and others at the Concorde in Brighton (UK) it's a bit higher - 60/40 perhaps.

LCD Soundsystem were tops in both locations. I think a lot of it depends on the expectations of the audience - oodles of booze helps.

A Man Called Adam done the Space Terrace the other year. Their music was really cool and i'm sure they're an excellent outfit/live act, but it 100% absolutely ruined the Terrace, no-one danced, a lot of people went off to other rooms / bar - and it seemed to destroy the good work Danny Rampling had done in building the atmosphere nicely.
So i'd be a bit cagey about live bands. I would just move to another room, there's enough variety at Space.

I absolutely love their music, but they would be much better suited to the upstairs terrace imo8)

aye, i thought they would be an obvious one for upstairs? or is that to do with noise pollution etc.?

They are the absolute PERFECT group for upstairs. My mate saw them at Glastonbury a few year ago and was blown away8)

Not suited to the main Terrace though imo:?

Live Music

I would leave the room for live music I like my house/trance prerecorded and extra funky. I hate the monkey see monkey do mentality. I have traveled from the USA to Ibiza, but would not do it if live music took over.

 there isn't even the slightest possibility of that happening. everyone is over exagerating don't ya think? so far there is one club night on ibiza that focuses on live music - don't like, don't go.

how about looking at this thorny problem from the other side. which live music aficionado in their right mind would venture into space and listen to hours of monotonous 'dance' music?

yeah I think some should take a leaf out of Bob Marleys book and chill out, talk of not going Ibiza is a little extreme I think.

The rock night at Privlidge worked really well cos Privlidge was not doing to great on other nights apart from Monday and Wednesday (so I heard)

As for space I'm sure they will not mess with the terrace atmosphere which is built up, the live act's could go on eralier, or even in another room as space has so many.

let me finish...

space has never failed me yet so I'll wait and see the clouds though the dust until before I say it will not work

the answer is none stephen, so your loaded question is true but slightly irrelevant as most of the people who go to space on sundays will like or will accept "hours of monotonous dance music". If the promoter of such events feel live music or other types of music would be attractive to the punters then he would look into it.

likewise, at a live rock gig or a night of flamenco or at classical opera, the organiser is only going to use music that will be attractive to the audience. ergo, no 'monotonous dance music' at folk music gigs.

I feel the issue of this thread is whether different music styles can be fused together successfully. its a difficult one cos in the case of rock and house music, the chances of success are far greater with a mainly house crowd than with a mainly rock crowd.:? (largely because of rocks wider mainstream existence)

there are lots of people who like both, as you'd expect, surely? you seem to be missing the discussion point Stephen, which isn't 'Do you like live music?' or 'Do you like house?', it's 'do you think live music will work with (and compliment) the existing music policy at WLS?'

i suppose my post was directed at someone's statement that only dance music should be allowed on ibiza - it kind of led me to believe that an elitist attitude existed towards other types of music ( eg the rants against hip hop here) and so i thought i'd illustrate my point by looking at things from the obverse.

personally i don't give a monkeys what happens in space - unless of course this year's jazz fest is held there!

there will always be this elitist attitude you talk of between music lovers, in fact even you appear to have one sometimes ;)

and i think Jazz Fest at Space is pushing this live music thing a tincy wincy bit far  (although isnt that how Space started?)

stuie it worries me that i we seem to be on the same wavelength:? .

hang on, i'm sure I told nadz that the other day as well:roll:. hmmmm!!!8O

New to the board, hello :DIMO Space is a massive venue that wouldn't go down the pan if a band played one of the rooms. Look at Ibiza Rocks last year that was ridiculously poular, the Kaiser Cheifs gig was sold out about 4 days before, so it seems to be what the punters want? I don't think its going to go downhill into a big rock-fest, but it is nice to have a bit of variety. That's my 2ps worth anyway ;) :D
