Personally i dont think they should incorparate live music into space personally i do think change is a good thing but i think the great crownd might start going elese if ibiza becomes a rock fest !!

We Love Ibiza Chief Gets Ready To Rock

We Love Space On Sundays promoter Darren Hughes has revealed he'll be
introducing live music to Ibiza's Space this summer, marking a radical
change for the world famous uber-club.

"The new, re-designed terrace at Space is a natural place for me to
present live music and I'm currently discussing with the club owners the
different options for doing that there, whether that means having live
bands on Sundays, as well as maybe also on a dedicated night," Darren
told Skrufff.

"I can confirm that I'm definitely incorporating an element of live
music into the programme for Sunday's this year, it's just a question of
deciding the who and when, according to the factors governing the
presentation of a broad spectrum of great live music, be it dance, rock,
indie; whoever is 'hot'," he promised.

Initially making his name with Liverpool superclub organisation Cream
then later Homelands, Darren went on to turn We Love Space into Space's
busiest, most successful party, principally through his policy of
picking a select bunch of cutting edge and big name DJs and his decision to
start booking live acts could have a dramatic impact on Ibiza's overall
club scene. Admitting that in recent seasons he felt the club had
started to feel like 'it was resting on its laurels', Darren also gave
credit to rival promoters Manumission who last year hosted a series of live
gigs on the island under the banner Manumission Rocks.

"I think Manumission were brave, they put their necks on the line with
Manumission Rocks, they presented their version of what they thought
people in Ibiza would want in terms of live music and they succeeded,"
said Darren.

"It worked for them and it definitely got the UK media and all the
agent's et al a lot more interested in sending bands to Ibiza," he said.

Darren also revealed that he's no longer involved with Homelands, the
massively successful UK dance festival he created with Mean Fiddler in
1998, though is collaborating even closer with leading Irish club owner
and promoter John Reynolds, his original Homelands business partner of
the last ten years.
 
No way he's bringing live rock bands (or other crappy music styles which arent electronic ones) to my most beloved terrace! :evil:

Do i need to remind him what happened to someone (armand van helden) when he tried playing a different music style on the terrace, which wasn't electronic one?
 
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! That should be left to Ibiza Rocks at Manumission. Ibiza is all about house music, it doesnt need two live music venues!

Well, as Stephen would tell you, there's actually a lot of live music all over the island and certainly more than 2 live music venues. :roll: Live music belongs on Ibiza just as much as house.

However, I think the audience for the large clubs is definitely dominated by disciples of house (techno, trance, etc). I for one would prefer that there not be live music at WLS as the segment of the public that wants live shows mixed into their club nights seems well served by Manumussion & Ibiza Rocks.

I was refering to the superclubs that are renowned all over the world for delivering the best quality house/electro/techno/trance etc.

To reiterate what you said Morybd, the majority of people who visit the superclubs in Ibiza are there because they are dedicated to electronic music. In my opinion Ibiza Rocks @ Manumission is enough and WL...S should keep up the good work with the cutting edge dance music!
 
THIS IS A BAD MOVE

Manumission is a club frequented by people generally staying in San An who feel the need to go due to its mass media coverage in the late 90's/early noughties. If it worked for them, good, great even. Anything that pulls more punters to Ibiza can't be bad. But Space is a destination for people seeking out quality music, not whatevers on down Eden or Es Paradis that night.

Its worlds apart. If they were gonna put on bands, stick em out in the car park during the day!!
 
I can't see why everyone seems so against the idea. There is enough different areas in Space now that you'd be able to avoid easily if you wanted to.

Would Röyksopp on the sunset terrace or 2Many DJ's, Mylo etc on Terrace 2 be that bad? What about Hard-Fi, Aphex Twin, Orbital (have they split up?) etc.

And probably, because it's WLS you can guarantee a few Groove Armada live sets!!! :lol:

Mr. Hughes knows who his punters are and knows what they like so I don't think he's going to go off on a tangent a la Manumission.

Eactly. If it doesn't work, it doesn;t work, and it'll get pulled.

Nowt wrong with trying though.

All the "noooooo ibiza is only about house" comments, whilst IMO true ;), are a bit extreme. It's just one (arena in one) venue. Calm down.

My only worry, and I suppose this is inevitable, is that it will become "popular" and fashionable (becasue it's new and different) , and therefore will just attract (unts in dodgy sunglasses standing around and posing therefor with a **** atmosphere. That, and lary kids who go there for the band (i.e., it should be for house heads who want something different to the normal stuff, not for indie heads who put up with house just so they con go to ibeefa and f*ckingaveit)
 
:lol: I actually like the Hard-Fi album.. about the only non-dance album ive bought in the last 5 years.

Im also against this live music, specially live bands. Sorry but EVERY single live act ive seen play in a club has been a disaster and it completely kills the vibe.

i agree that it would kill the vibe on the terrace but would be very suprised if anything changes there anyway.

A Man Called Adam done the Space Terrace the other year. Their music was really cool and i'm sure they're an excellent outfit/live act, but it 100% absolutely ruined the Terrace, no-one danced, a lot of people went off to other rooms / bar - and it seemed to destroy the good work Danny Rampling had done in building the atmosphere nicely.
So i'd be a bit cagey about live bands. I would just move to another room, there's enough variety at Space.
 
Hmmm.....intruiging. Something like Soulwax Nite Versions or LCD Soundsystem could work quite well in Caja Roja or the roof terrace. Not too sure about this using the terrace business though !! 8O
 
2Many Djs would be superb at WLS! Im deffo up 4 the live music idea....its open for 22 hours anyway....plenty of time 4abit of everything!
 
we need to make a distinction here (because some people seem confused as to what WLS are proposing) between live music in general and bands playing a rock set.

for example, orbital, 2manyDJs, live dance acts would change the vibe slightly but not to the same extent as say a rock band having to spend 5 minutes tuning and setting up and then starting a whole different vibe.

i agree with stuie, darren hughes is on the money, he is not going to put hard-fi on in between some terrace house or some techy bleeps.

he might however decide to put them at a diff time/arena so that the atmosphere isn't harmed.

btw - would love to see the killers live in a club..........it'd rock:D
