Top tip: Watch out for pickpockets at all times

actually felt hands EVERYWHERE in ush ...

For real?? I thought Ushuaia was "safe" but it's surprising hearing about this and the other story with the chain being ripped off. Can you explain more?

You must be able to get something better than a ladies handbag. Have a look into some running accessories. I think there is a company called SPIB that do small bags to put valuables in (whilst out running)

I'm feeling good with the handbag idea. These guys deserve a medal if they manage to detach the bag from the loop somehow! (Or a kick to the balls)

I agree with the earlier idea of some sort of tourist task force to counter these thieving fools. They can act as decoys for these scums or just pretend to rob other visitors as an example to bring awareness

This thread is very eye opening. I go to extremely crowded clubs in NYC and take the extremely crowded subway to get there and to be honest, never think twice. I'm usually way more worried about getting robbed or assaulted than pickpocketed.

Money belt sounds like a keen investment!

Reading this thread has me sorta worried now we're staying in a villa this year so will need to come up with some ideas for keeping it as safe as poss! Will deffo be investing in one of the little belt bags for carrying phone and money in. I'll be the only girl in our group with 6 guys so will def be keeping my wits about me!

in isolated homes

Sant Carles is one of the areas where they have organized neighborhood patrols.

More than a thousand euros in cash, various electronic appliances, the house "upside down" and "significant damage" in several hits that were pipped to access housing. It is the picture that a neighbor of Sant Carles robbed Friday night was found.

It is one of the last thefts reported in the vicinity of camí d'Atzaró, an area where neighbors reported a dozen robberies in recent days.

He added that in the last two weeks "are many houses that have been visited by thieves. The neighbors are very indignant. Alarms serve not to stop these people. Many neighbors are installing double fencing on farms but robberies continue because they are criminals who come to do their particular August and have no brakes, "said the same sources.

He noted that neighbors have already been used to take measures of self protection and monitoring of their properties.

"Everyone does what he can and neighbors take action but it´s the administrations which should put more means to ensure security in Eivissa" said this resident of Sant Carles, one of the areas where victims of robberies have been organized in neighborhood patrols.

The same sources pointed out that in recent weeks have seen "suspicious movements of a car, a pick-up clear and dark Volkswagen Golf".

Employers of holiday homes alerted of a 'pull factor' theft by lack of security

Housing Association of Tourist Vacation PIMEEF (AVAT) regrets that thefts are occurring so frequently at vacation homes
. Although many of these homes have security systems and alarms, theft at these tourists are taking place.
"He's having a lot of robberies this year; what they are doing many owners is to create groups of control and surveillance to control who walks in the surrounding houses, "explained Roberto San Esteban, president of the employers.

These patrols control ': tell them to leave everything collected and tightly closed, but it's complicated mentalisation customers "adds.
San Esteban regretted that not enough civil guards and national police and said there is an "endemic" problem to be solved and are irregular floors holiday and tourist homes.

"We do not have enough Civil Guard and National Police because there is no room for them because, in turn, there is much illegal renting apartments at excessively high prices and this is what generates that we have no police, health and enough teachers on the island . Is endemic that until not cut root not get through, "said San Esteban.

This feeling of lack of security and "impunity" generates in turn and explained the president of the employers of vacation homes, there is a 'pull effect' of people who come to commit crimes to Ibiza.
"In the summer they leave the capital and go where there are people, which is Ibiza. They come here because they think they will find more and finally a pull effect occurs because nothing happens. "
This also occurs to those who exercise the activity of rented holiday homes illegally and alegalmente. San Esteban recalled, for example, the illegal practice of "going to live three or two months in summer to my grandparents' house to rent the cottage for weeks or days and thus make money" as well as foreigners who are given high with NIE, "they open a bank account, but then do not pay VAT, insurance or anything; this would be non-legal. What I always do is have 2 small thin lanyards with a clip at the end (£2 on eBay for 3), one for each pocket one for my phone the other for my wallet. I loop these around a belt loop on my shorts then just keep them in my pocket as normal, if someone dips into my pocket or my phone accidentally falls out it is tied to my belt loop.
Nerdy I know, had to take a bit of grief from my mates but worth it lol

Your phone will have a bit where a lanyard can be attached, all phones do I think, wallet can be trickier, the wallet I had in ibiza this year had a money clip on it so I looped it around that. Other years I just took a cheap wallet with me and made a small hole in the corner to loop through

If you are that worried about getting pick pocketed when out then the best bet is a money belt, that way you can leave your pockets pretty much empty, Ive never had it happen to me but a few friends have lost their phones when out in the clubs, Pacha especially...

As for villa/hotel room getting robbed, Ive had that happen and unfortunatly there is not much you or the police can do, best advice is dont take expensive items away with you in the first place (whats all this taking laptops on holiday!?!), and number one rule ALWAYS GET TRAVEL INSURANCE!!! :)

For real?? I thought Ushuaia was "safe" but it's surprising hearing about this and the other story with the chain being ripped off. Can you explain more?...
gets messy in the chaos around the bar-huts and in the bar-area under "the cloud" ...especially the last 2 hours before they open the main-stage-area ...

I had someone touching my amazing glutes in DC10 :P. But they didn't take anything the idiots as I had my stuff hid.

Although a group of lasses we met, got their iPhone stolen in West End when they went to look for my mate. They did the dance on them & took the phone & relised a few mins later that her phone had been stolen

In all seriousness, this thread re-enforced the need to keep the family safe and be sensible when out and about - especially in the busy areas.

Who leaves their personal belongings in a car anyways (passport being the main one) o_O

Friend of mine left the window open on the hire car with 3 cases in the boot... came back and the boot was open and everything was gone. One of the cases had a passport in so he had to stay an extra 3 days

That was in the huge car park in ibiza town
