This years music

Did anyone else come away this year feeling just a tiny bit uninspired by the music?

Every electro track is using one of about 5 different sounds.

7 hours of minimal is not a party - its like everyone is dancing with headphones on.

The "Big" tune this year had an accordion, and 3 tubs of marmite, in it for pete's sake?!

Jorgensen was my top track of the year i guess.

One hopes that someone will roll up this winter, smash minimal into electro and produce some deep, terrific thing which sounds like a bunch of machines making love and war whilst drinking a vodka limon.

Hopefully a deep house maestro will do us all proud. Come on Ralph Lawson, it's yours for the taking mate.

yup, the parties are still the best in the world but when people are dropping the born slippy intro and hoping we'll be moved then its definitely time for a rethink

Like I always say.........THE EVEN YEARS HAVE THE BEST MUSIC!!!! So '08 outta be a blinder! :D

Not whingeing as still really enjoyed the music but all my friends agree that compared to 2006 there were far less standout tunes

Kept hearing that Red Hot Chilli Peppers tune everywhere which is not really quality dance music IMO despite having a fun cheese factor.

Just remember 2006 having blinder after blinder in comparison

hmmmm, i never knew of this odd/even theory. maybe you're right. thats quite a discovery. well done.

well I didnt come home with any particular tune stuck in my head for the next month and that's a first to be honest.... :?:?:?:?

distinctly average season (but I dont know if its just me - I seem to be finding it difficult tobe inspired by any tracks over the past 6 months or so    ) it all seems like its "not trying very hard" anymore....

Completely agree with the standard of tunage.

And the sooner everyone gets off the electro bandwagon the better... for every 100 Electro house tracks, one of them is any cop!

and the minimal one. how boring some sets I saw where containing all minimal tunes.

all the kids love it though, bopping tirelessly to a mindane rhythm and giving a cheer when that ten minute bassline kicks in. Yeah top stuff.

I want to be suprised bya DJ, I want a set with a mix up of a few styles especially over the course of a few hours. Where is the druggy techno, where is the deep house?

Could this stem from the fact that anyone can make music on their home pc these days and many are. Coupled with the notion that music can now be pumped into the market with the click of a mouse rather than pressing up vinyl. One would have to be very confident about a track to press it on vinyl, yet to send it out into the ether via websites etc means people have nothing to lose these days.

Much more average stuff to sift through these days before you find the gems so it seems many DJs are simply making their own. Great in one way but it can lead them, and us all, down a blind alley.

p.s. i remember when this were all fields

Guys, maybe you've been going to the wrong places over there! The only 'electro' i heard was played in Bora Bora and as for the minimal thing, Circo Loco at DC10 could be described as having a minimal musical policy, but i challenge you to find a more inspiring place to listen, and dance, to music. In the main room there, the DJ was mixing it up, his set ranged from Electro to minimal to 'druggy techno' and everything in between. The terrace has inspiring tune after inspiring tune being dropped. The main room at Space also. Very deep, intelligent music, a knowledgeable crowd and again, inspiring music.

Some of the comments here i think refer to the more commercial rooms/nights on the island. Using Space as an example again, you can hear commercial house on the Sunset Terrace, walk into the Discoteca and hear deep techno, then walk into the Main Terraza and hear some jacking electro tech house (whatever you want to call it!). If you go to Release Yourself on a Monday night at Pacha, you're bound to hear Samim played 3 times during the night.

I suppose what i'm trying to say is there are many Clubs/rooms on the White Isle where it is still possible to be inspired. Obviously musical taste is a very personal issue, and maybe the music this year suited my ear, but i came away from Ibiza this year loving Dance music as much as i ever have!

DC10 is the only exception to what I noticed everywhere else though. It was the same last year aswell.

I didn't go to Release Yourself and I don't go to the over comercialised nights

I agree Tristan w/ everything you say here. Yes, everyone's tastes are different. Some of the best music I hear or have ever heard have been those tracks that you DON'T know (ie. far removed from your overplayed "It's Too Late" or "Waiting For").

There are many great tracks out there, but the "anthems" were lacking this year. But one could only take so many anthems over the course of a summer.

i agree- the 'anthems' are fun for the first couple of days, after that they get on my nerves...even though my first love is deep house, i enjoy all types of music, and this year i found the deep, dark jacking/electro-house(?) very inspiring:twisted:, and a welcome change. in space, the music sounded great on the terraza, but hearing/feeling it over that system in the discoteca was truly amazing - my god how i wish i was going to the closing

More like Dan Ghenacia, Loco Dice, Luciano etc. That sound is here to stay and will continue to evolve. Cocoon will carry on being massive, as will Circo Loco (wherever it is held). Techno seems to be the way forward, and i aint complaining!

BYNC, you're right about the Discoteca, absolutely amazing soundsystem. The best big room in the world!

I enjoyed the music and converted a few of my mates 2 house heads. I like a blend of funky house and hard electro/dirty house. I found enough for my fancy. I can put up with a certain amount of cheese (hed kandi not all of it IMO). Music tastes differ from people to people and nite 2 nite.

I disagree - there is nothing wrong with the standard of tunage out there - there's plenty around - perhaps it is the standard of djs that are picking these crap crowdpleaser tunes!
