The future for Privilege

I did read them... I hope you mean on this thread. I just didn't know much about the topic and as to why Daft Punk don't really do gigs... comprende?

I do mean on this thread. Someone mentioned earlier that they were rumored to have been offered a 500k gig to play Privilege. I'd suggested that it wasn't to do with money moreover it's rumored that no-one will book them in Ibiza because too many people have tried impersonating them simply by turning up dressed in the robot suits (in this case the 500k offer could be false).

This all seems a bit silly and whimsical but I would suggest that they prefer to live their lives in folklore and if they didn't have an enigma surrounding them then their artist integrity may be questioned. So playing too many gigs could destroy that enigma.

Either way Daft Punk will be back. If's not a question of if it's a question of when...

That is all :)

if i remember right daft punk have only ever been to ibiza for a week long holiday and ended up playing 2 gigs. not to sure but i think space was one of them. would love to see a daft punk set!

Thank you muchly for this input... :D

What kind of numbers did it get?
Gods pulled in about 3000 from what one of the promoters said. I'd of said that was good going for any club. Left a somewhat...lacking...atmosphere in Priv though.

As I've mentioned in other threads, get Deadmau5 onboard for a residency. He'll sell the place out, week after week.

gatecrasher had around 300 people in, middle of august

Well, that's a very disappointing number. It was Dash Berlin and Paul Oakenfold though

The problem for Gatecrasher last year was that it was up against Armin on a Wednesday. The line up at Gatecrasher was a belter - Marcel Woods, Marco V, Shah, Oakie etc. But Armin, Schulz and Emery at a full Space? No contest.

And I get the sense that most trance fans chose Armin at Space knowing that Gatecrasher would just feel empty and lack atmosphere at Privilege. It's not an easy club to fill. In that sense, it poses a unique set of problems for promoters. You need a really really big name or you need a 'talked about' spectacle.

This I'm sure has been muted before, but a promoter needs to put their hands in their pocket and do a night at Privilege that gets a big gun in every week. And by big gun, I mean The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Deadmau5, Infected Mushroom, Pendulum ... or even more daringly, maybe The Crystal Method, Leftfield, Orbital, Depeche Mode and the like. I think most of these acts could do something really crowd-pleasing with the space there.

But still, the problem is filling it.

I read somewhere on here that LMFAO were to have a residency at Priv, that sort of night could be ridiculously popular with much of the younger crowd and certainly get the numbers in.

Fair enough the majority of the people on here wouldn't be seen heading to it, nor will they probably like it but if it was to get more people to the island and these younguns that would usually spend all night in the west end away for a bit then seems a good approach for me.

Can see more of these top 40 chart orientated DJs heading over this year.

Yeah, this is true. Godskitchen worked, but it had the spectacle of the BoomBox to go with it.
Problem with Trance nights, is that with the following it no longer has, two nights up against each other, as you rightly said, will never work. Just need to look at the UK for that, as well. No big trance nights are done on the same night, 99% of the time.

If Gatecrasher and Gods do come back, they need a night there isn't a trance presence (Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday as it looks at the moment)

It's an interesting one. I don't think it's that trance hasn't got a big following. Trance is growing massively at the moment. The problem, in the Ibiza context, is that a lot of that growth is in places outside Europe, particularly North America. I think people are as receptive to trance as they have been for a while and there was more of it about in Ibiza last year than there has been for a while.

But as you say, even in the UK promoters don't put 2 trance events on in the same city on the same night. Smaller promoters doing little bar events in particular always defer to the super clubs. It's event suicide.

Space and Armin have a combined mystique that could monopolise any trance crowd. Gatecrasher was doomed last year, whatever the line ups.

I think it's a shame they put it up against Space, I would've gone had it not been on the Wednesday against Armin / Emery! Anyone know if Armin's back at Space this year?

From what I hear, he it back at Space this year. Which makes my Wednesday a done deal. :D

Armin going to Privilege is the one that has been passed around twitter today!

Interesting. I wouldn't be completely against that personally. Everytime I've seen Armin it's been at a different venue so to see him at Privilege would be new and different.

But I really think Armin at Space was a winning combination and i had heard he was going back. We will see... That's why we're here.:D

This is all somewhat lost on me, i've never really got into or known much about trance and it seems to have passed me by.What's the deal with armin? what should i give a listen to to see if i get it?

Many Thanks.

Was he not struggling to fill the main room at Armada @ Amnesia a few years ago? :?

He was, I remember going in 2010 and the room not being busy,
But he's got a cult following now, having milked #TranceFamily for all it's worth.
I don't think an Armada night would fill Privilege though.

I chose to do Gods rather than Be last year. Was good fun, not the busiest night in the world though.

If you want to get in to Armin of today, have a listen to his ASOT CD series (ASOT 2012 is due out asap, if it's not already out). He's just the biggest trance DJ, and not a great one at that, in my own opinion. Markus Schulz, and others, give a far better night.

I was at Amnesia for Armada in 09 and I wouldn't say he struggled to fill the main room as such. It just wasn't as busy as Space was last year, and the place did more or less empty when Armin came off the decks. More people seemed to stick around for Gareth Emery last year. Read into that what you will.

Another thing you have to factor in is that Armada was one of two big trance nights at Amnesia, one of which, Cream, is a much more established Ibiza brand. If people felt like visiting Amnesia once in a week was enough, then Cream probably edged it for some trance fans. Another reason why moving to Space was a very smart move.

I think if Gatecrasher and Armin were to theoretically swap clubs, I think most trance fans would still head to see Armin. But the same number of people from Space wouldn't necessarily make Privilege feel full. A one off show with the kind of production you see at Armin Only, then he might just pack out the place.

As far as I'm concerned he is definitely a great DJ. Not everyone agrees with his track selection these days; he has got very vocal and fluffy. But during a long set he does keep it varied and the man is technically top notch. The way he blends tracks is supreme.

Schulz is amazing as well. Can't fault him. Very moody, dark style at times, but definitely a great DJ to see in a club.
