The future for Privilege

As far as I'm concerned he is definitely a great DJ. Not everyone agrees with his track selection these days; he has got very vocal and fluffy. But during a long set he does keep it varied and the man is technically top notch. The way he blends tracks is supreme.

Schulz is amazing as well. Can't fault him. Very moody, dark style at times, but definitely a great DJ to see in a club.

Armin has lost it for me over the years, don't really know why, I just don't get as excited as everyone else does when I go to see him. Used to dislike Markus because he had an identical sound to Armin, but he's developer this deeper, darker style over the last year, so will always try to see him when he plays over here now.
I'm still of a fan of my Trance without too many vocals.

Saying that, I am going to ASOT 550 , but I'll probably skip over Armin like I did at ASOT 500. Seeing him at Gods for 6512 as well. Hopefully he'll have a good supporting line up.

I can more than see where you're coming from. I can identify with not feeling as excited about seeing him as I used to be. But for me, that's more because of the fact I've seen him 7 times now (maybe not a lot for some people, but more than I've seen any other DJ ), so you inevitably look at the line ups and think 'what haven't I seen before'.

And hence why I mention that seeing him at Privilege might be good (for some of us), because it's a change of setting. I think the 7 times I've seen him it's been at 7 different venues: Creamfields, Global, Amnesia, Space, Brixton Academy, Syndicate Bristol, Nation Liverpool.

But more so than ever when I saw him at Brixton recently, you just couldn't fault his mixing and the way he controls a set... and with such consistency too. I think that's what keeps bringing people like me - who aren't necessarily completely under his spell - coming back for more.

But yeah, I'm probably in the camp that would rather go and see Schulz, if I'm honest. They were on the same bill for me a Space last year so best of both worlds.

Armin just announced on ASOT550 he is doing 13 ASOT shows at PRIVILEGE!!

Every Monday from June 25th

Very interesting news. Incredible even. As I say, nice change for those of us who saw him at Space last year. Will be interesting to see how full the place gets.

Promoters are really going for it this year. This is like a football transfer window!!

Slightly disappointed its on a Monday though. Because we arrive in our villa on a Monday this year, with people flying in from all over the place. Will have to review the logistics once the line ups are out.

Due to a friends freak out, I missed most of Armin and all of Schulz last summer at Space. :( Was somewhat annoying. I've seen Armin... Turnmills, MoS, Armin Only, at Godskitchen for ASOT 400, ASOT 500, Trance Energy, Armada @ Amnesia, Be @ Space, Global Gathering... pretty sure I've seen him at other events as well.

I've seen Above & Beyond the most though, far more than than Armin:)

It's a shame Syndicate in Bristol changed it's music policy, it was a good venue for those kind of nights. Long gone now though, too busy with the student population.

i wish he'd stay still....3 different clubs on 3 different nights in 3 years

Indeed, was looking forward to Be @ Space again this year. Wonder what will happen to the night now?

You're spot on there, mate. I was a student mixing with the local population clubbing-wise when Syndicate was pulling in the big trance names. Had some utterly amazing times there. Sadly a distant memory now.

I think for the core people in our Ibiza group, Armin is always a massive draw so I'm sure they'll all want to go to it if they can. But absolutely no certainty that it will be better than Be @ Space last year. And it'll all depend on whether we can get our **** together on Monday night having just step off the plane.

Yeah, I knew the general manager at the time who was changing the ethos of the club to where the money was (students), and away from the harder dance nights.

I remember seeing Paul Van Dyk play at Syndicate, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond... Don't think I will be again now, which is a huge disappointment. If I ever become a millionaire, one of the clubs I'd like to buy is Syndicate.

Armin is a massive draw for our group too. And it beats seeing Tiesto on a Monday hands down. Question is, when will SHM play at Priv? I thought it would of been the Monday, before the ASOT announcement.

The original syndicate in Blackpool used to pull in all of the big names in Trance with plenty of DJs from other genres too, that club closed down again for about the 4th time. :(

A mate of mine knew the manager when the club had been refurbed and they were putting the trance nights on. Was his name, Gavin? Can't remember.

But, we were very lucky, to be honest. The Works was done out towards the end of our first year at Uni and we got 2 full years of clubbing as students at Syndicate, complete with all those big names. And I was able to go back and visit my friend doing his 4th year to catch a few good names before they finally closed up the decent nights. As I say, great memories.

Yeah, and it's unlikely to reopen. The landlords of the Syndicate Blackpool wanted to charge the company double the rent. It effectively made the club unprofitable. So they went their Separate ways.

Gavin Pearce, I think. I knew the guy after him, Steve.

Never went to the Works, was too young at the time. It became Syndicate the year I started going I believe (2007). Didn't know much about dance music at the time, but from that, I started going to Turnmills in London when I moved there from Uni.
Alot of good times. And for one of it's night, Propaganda, moving to Syndicate was the best decision DJ Dan could of made, as he's gone national since that move.

I never went to The Works either. By all accounts, everyone, even the students, regarded it as a **** hole. We came back for our 2nd year at Uni and it had suddenly turned into one of the best clubs in the country.

But enough of Bristol... back to Privilege, Ibiza.

I've been thinking about this Armin move, and with a good promotion team, this night could suceed extremely well.
I'd like to think that it would be a return to the 2007 days when Tiesto moved to Privelege, fueled by the release of his In search of Sunrise album ,which I have been told was something special

Or, it could crash and burn very easily. A bit risky to promote a trance night on a Monday considering the competition thats there at the moment. Tiesto, Cocoon, Sanchez, etc

But then who of these is actually going to be in competition with ASOT? Tiesto has moved from Trance and more to the SHM sound of late. I think Monday works so well as these "huge" nights all have their own crowd.....

Tiesto = Chart /Dance Commercial Pap
Cocoon / DC10 = Same as always more underground
Sanchez = House (for a crowd older enough to remember him)
ASOT = Errrr Trance (believe it or not)

In the end, the same people that went to Be @ Space will go to ASOT. And ASOT is such a huge institution in trance music.

All these nights have their own crowds - as mr_why says. So it's hard to see it crashing and burning.

BUT it will take a huge promotion of a huge Armin Only style show for Armin to fill the place like Tiesto did in his first two years. I think Be @ Space was a much much safer bet.

I do hope it works. I would hate to see trance music fade away....

Just trying to get a feel from Trance fans as to what they think about the move. I have read mixed reports about Armin recently and Es Paradis are running a Trance night Colors with Alex Kunnari on Mondays also.

Ticket price in Privilege will be on the rich side compared to Es Paradis

I'm unsure of the move, I thought Armin at Amnesia and Space was great and could be great at Privilege too - however when I've been to Tiesto at Privilege I was unimpressed.

I think ASOT will have a huge draw compared to Es Paradis, however I'll go to a few of the colors nights if the line-ups good!

Unimpressed because of the club, or the music? ;)

Saw Tiesto the last three years running. His best year was 2009 when he did a four and a half hour set. Last two hours was good ol fashioned trance.

I hope ASOT works. And I don't think Trance will die out. It'll always have, at the very least, Cream.
