The footy !!

Well played Reading.

Thoroughly deserved the win and could / should have finished it off inside 90 minutes.

They wanted it more than us, simple.

Wanna double the bet Chewie?

D'oh!

Seems like a good time to quote a Liverpool reference from this week's Giles Smith's column (re: last week's match cancellations)
Nevertheless, all things considered, I reckon the winter break worked out best of all, not for us, but for Liverpool, who seemed unusually eager to get their Sunday game called off, applying for permission at the early-bird time of 11.00am on Friday - or, in other words, the minute the call-off box office opened.

They must have realised that the demand for call-offs would be high and they didn't want to miss out. That said, rumours that Liverpool actually queued overnight in order to get their game called off can probably be dismissed as the work of idle satire.

They were, however, due to play Tottenham, a critical contest in the great 'battle to be fourth' in which Liverpool now find themselves. And, given the form that Liverpool are currently in (and, conversely, the form that Tottenham are currently in, much as it pains one to admit as much), you could understand if Liverpool wanted to put that particular game to one side for a while - take the opportunity to practise some more, hand a convenient rest to a couple of players who seem to have trouble with the pressure of playing consecutive fixtures (Torres, Gerrard, Aquilani, etc.), install a couple of make-shift steadying influences in the transfer window, and hope and pray that Tottenham blow up in the meantime.

Apparently permission was granted on the grounds that the club couldn't guarantee the safety of the streets around Anfield, but it would be interesting to see a list of the dates when they thought they could.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Liverpool need to sack Benitez and get O'Neill in. Like NOW. And before Utd do.

They then need to face the brutal reality of the debts and sell their assets.

a prolonged period of midtable mediocrity could well beckon but that is surely preferable to a Leeds-esque freefall into obscurity.

how did barca get on in the copa del rey?

yadayadayada

the we were not bothered anyway defence. predictable!

No, obviously, a back to back treble would've been nice but it really isn't a trophy either of the big hitters in Spain care that much about

Put it this way, Bobby Robson won the cup winners cup AND copa del rey in 96/97 and it still didn't save his job!

olly - the sell your assets thing is bollocks. the debt of the club is vested in its (market price) value, so whilst its not great business, it's the most ridiculous thing i've heard to compare us to leeds and their financial plight. isn't the glazer's ownership of united on 700m borrowed, you could hardly say they're looking to have a car boot to raise some funds.

the problem at the moment is that whoever comes in has exactly the same problems as rafa (i.e. the owners don't give a **** and won't give him much cash), so that excludes the elite coaches. would i rather have rafa than mark hughes or o'neill or any other journeyman manager. yes!

people forget that it was this team pretty much, that came 2nd last year with our best ever points total in the premier league, which would have been good enough to take the title in over half the premiership campaigns. we lost it not cos we didn't beat the best, it was cos we drew at home to stoke and the like.

we're having a bad season no doubt and still only 5 points off 4th. i've personally been through much darker times as a liverpool fan, so whilst this sh1t is hard to watch, i'm not going ott.

but then again, i don't read or watch the UK media coverage.

I think we need a re-invigoration. We need a new boss. But who will come with no money to spend.

I personally think we need to wait till the end of season. Look at the Arse, they were proper shi7e last season, look at them now. If the investment comes and we can buy decent we should give him one more season. If at the end of that season we are still shi7e the fook him off. ;)

As Greg says, as a fan I've been through much darker times, yes its not good, but it could be alot worse.

One thing though, Benitez needs to keep his trap shut. He is a complete tool at times. :spank:

Good thing for you. The press have had Rafa shipped back to Spain in a body bag after each stumble. It's all a bit excessive, to be honest.

In your favor - American owners. It usually takes a slightly worse showing or some other substantial conflict to get fired as coach of an American sports team so I think Hicks & Gillette are generally more patient. However, the possibility on missing out on Champions League money might be a dealbreaker.

Sack him, and it'll cost ya £24m if reports are correct.
