The footy !!

Pompey's demise wouldn't be so bad for Chelsea. We'd lose 3 points but Man U would be out 6

That said, I really don't want to see them wound up. Not good for anyone in the long run. :?

And liverpool will gain 3 = title race back on!!

Being objective, dodgy, scamming, criminal owners have been hiding behind the 'don't wind us up Mr Taxman think of the fans' - since 1888 & (whilst it would be different if it were LFC!) some one needs to get their comeupance for running un sustainable business on very dodgy terms.

I think our expereience will prevail in the end, we've only lost 1 in the last 7.[/QUOTE]

but then again you have been beaten 8 times this season 6 of those away and with regards to experience the city squad now has a variety of experienced premier league players so it will still be tight (0-0 draw written all over it eh?)

5 of those 6 were either freak (beachball) or unjust, so id say we're evens ;)

With Carra doubful and Storios banned, half our (best) back four will be missing. though it looks like Torres could be back, even a half fit Torres is a scary prospect for a dodgy defence ;)

Seriously though, it is going to be an interesting end to the season, title still to play for, relegation still undecided, 4 th place up for grabs, it is one of the most interesting seasons for a while.

Sorry to rain on your parade but liverpool or anyone else who have lost to portsmouth won't get three points back, al that will happen is that the game will get taken off of your number of games played, i.e the premier league will end up being contested by 19 teams not 20.

Any teams that have taken points off of portsmouth will lose them and the games played.

So.... the teams who have lost will benefit as their main competitors will lodse points ie. Manure will lose more than Chelsea, and Man city will lose more than L'pool.

Will still make quite a big difference.

which i think is what we were saying ?.....if you played pompy and won then the 3 points would come off your points total, this would help liverpool in that all the teams around them had gained points so would in turn lose them (whilst liverpool or others who lost) would have no change to their points...anyway who do we want to go down this season?

all if's and but's...

who knows if any of the sides can go on a run and get what they 'think' they deserve to be in the league.

one bad run of injuries to key players will well and truely **** up anyones title/CL/EL ambitions...

Best season for ages.

Exactly

(and 1 more team would be promoted in each league / 1 less would go down in the championship at the end of the season)

That it is:lol:

Teams to go down

Hull

Burnely

West Ham

HI,

....and I'll be goin down this Summer!

It seems massively unfair that anyone should benefit/be penalised as a result of another team's circumstances. If the title race was decided because of this, surely there would be all sorts of repercussions - ie. lawsuits from the team who lost out etc?

OH GOD NOW WHAT !!

following is from the mcfc website news section today, comments please (other than WHY?)....

"......tucked away at the foot of page 18 of the Telegraph's football pull-out, sits a tale that will have major repercussions for several clubs if it comes to pass.

Almost nonchalantly, the uncredited author reveals: "The Premier League's fourth Champions League qualification place may be decided by a play-off system."
"The League," he or she adds, "is believed to be keen to inject some excitement into qualification for the lucrative spots."

Crikey. Any more excitement than this season's mad scramble would need paramedics on standby. They're already ashen-faced at Anfield at the thought of missing out on the jackpot.

City, Tottenham and Aston Villa are all in there, aiming to duck under the rope to the VIP section and elbow aside one of the elite who have dominated the top-four berths for years.

The Telegraph says: "First, second and third places would go through as normal, but the fourth place would be contested by clubs that finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh.

"The proposal is believed to have been made at the meeting of the Premier League clubs on Feb 4, and chief executive Richard Scudamore is expected to flesh out the plans in April."

Whoever finishes fourth after a ten-month marathon is going to feel mighty peeved. But the revolution will be televised, as usual, and there will be pots of extra money all round ...

generally i think the play off system is flawed essentially, but it works well in the promotion from leagues as it increases competition.

the negative point of a sh!t team that comes 7th winning in the play-offs, when often 30 points lower than the 3rd or 4th place, is balanced by the fact that there is a much smaller margin of quality between the teams in the lower league. as regularly seen when a good team runs from conference to championship in successive seasons or the other way around.

not sure you can apply the same logic for CL qualification. the whole point of it is that it is elite competition, this took enough of a beating by allowing non-champions in.......it just serves to allow crapper teams in, it's the antithesis of sport.

they have a CL playoff in the Netherlands i'm sure

i'm just more worried about the rumours that Tony Mowbray is resigning
8O

:!::!::!:

of course it is, it is an elite competition and you have to earn the right to be there. doing that over 38 games means so much more than finishing mid table and winning 2 play off games.

the pedigree of the european cup is at threat from the possibility of some bunch of yard dogs who manage to scrape in 7th (who could have been fighting relegation all season) and then have a couple of scrappy games to reach the competition proper.

that's not sport, sport should be about letting talent win through, not giving those who aren't good enough 2 or 3 or more bites at the cherry to see how they get on.

i don't get the chance to run at the olympics just cos its fair or equal to all, it's based purely on ability and nothing tests that more than a league season.

why not introduce another game for the team that finishes 4th, if they don't get through, as their reward for finishing 4th. makes a mockery of it.

perhaps rather than a play-off which is rather unfair it could be decided by 4,5,6,7 all playing a game of scissors/paper/stone, a bit fairer but not sure sky sports would have a ratings winner....or would they?

I was agreeing with you. It's a ludicrous idea!

as equally as ludicrous as the English league playoffs

so 3rd place in the championship has 60pts
6th place had 40pts

yet they can go thru by drawing 2 games and winning 1 by a sclaffed shot in the 95th min???

madness
