The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

Feel sorry for Steve Kean. Might not be the best in the business but royaly shafted.
On the flip side, how about Roberto Martinez? Every year he seems to get Wigan back on course just in time. They play some decent football too.

If any Man City fan thinks their success is in any way, shape, or form due to anything other than a sudden and vulgar influx of money, then they're as deluded as John Terry's wife.

Just accept they're the team you love and you enjoy the good years because you've suffered through the ****e ones...Most of you have on here and you'll get credit for it, just don't reel off a list of names and embarass yourself by suggesting Jonathan Dairylea is a key element of your squad and is the next striker "never to play for you again"

about as close as a "well done" mate as I'll ever get, so I will take that

(should we beat QPR and lift the trophy of course)

He was totally out of his depth but yes, he was shafted as the whole club has been from top to bottom by the Venkys group. It started one month in when they sacked Sam Allardyce with no particular reason given. I'm no fan of Allardyce's but he did a job for us keeping us upper-mid table and performing near miracles with the finances he had available. We finished in the top 10 in 6 of the last ten seasons and that was largely down to him and Mark Hughes before him. They replaced him with Kean whose previous managerial peak was as deputy manager at Coventry under Chris Coleman. To myself and many other die-hard Rovers fans it was already a recipe for disaster and the protests started.

Venkys people had been to see 3 games and walked out half-way through the 3rd game once they saw the protests. They cut off ALL communications with the club, choosing to relay messages through intermediaries and occasionally summoning Kean to India to deliver 'progress' reports and to be their vocal outlet to the media. At the same time they made the decision that ALL transfers should go through one particular agent (who just happens to be Steve Keans agent) completely circumventing the board of directors. The established board that had seen the creation of one of the most successful youth academies in the country and had overseen the financial side, keeping our finances sound with occasional prudent sales of our own talent (Damien Duff, Phil Jones and other lesser-known Premiership players). The board resigned en masse.

Further alarm bells started ringing around this time when Barclays announced that if Rovers didn't pay £10 million before midnight on January 2nd they would rescind all banking facilities. Now to back-track just a little. When Venky's took over back in the summer they said they would write-off the clubs outstanding debts (reckoned to be £5million which is miniscule for a Premiership club) and invest in players such as Beckham, Kaka and Ronaldinho to make us a force to be reckoned with in Europe. Myself and many other fans saw this for the horse-sh1t it so obviously was. Venkys seemed to think that we as fans were as ill-educated as the peasants in their chicken factories. Instead we generated £23.5 million in sales (mainly thanks to Phil Jones) and spent less than £2.5 million on such amazing quality as David Goodwilie (ace name, sh1tty player). And STILL the bank threatened to cut us off. WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO?

In the meantime the main in-ground sponsor pulled out. It was a large, locally-based engineering firm whose owner is a life-long Rovers fan. He attempted to contact the Rau family (owners of Venkys) on FIVE occasions and recieved nothing but a deafening silence in return. We made a couple of decent purchases in the January window (Yakubu being a particular highlight) and as little as 6 weeks ago were 6 points clear of the drop. And now our season is over and we've let it all slip. And now Venkys has ceased banking with Barclays and has transferred everything over to the Bank Of India where it will be even more difficult to detect any financial wranglings. A recent FA report said that Venkys had done nothing illegal. Maybe, maybe not but certainly they have acted imorally.

All you have done there is list names that have come from City's youth academy. And yes, there are some prominent names. But for your argument to work you can only include players who have been involved in the squad in a title challenging season. So that would be... Richard (& Hart - yes, I had forgotten he was brought from the lower league's, but I'd still include him as he was nurtured at City) Point is, you can list youth products from ANY team, but unless it supports your argument, its invalid.

Have Milner, Barry & Lescott in your squad? Yes. Pay THAT much money for their services? Nope. Not a chance. You're smoking crack (or a gazillionaire Oligarch

£25 million for the current best English Centre back, a bargain
Barry has had probably his best ever season this year, if you dont notice him, its because he's doing his job, he was brilliant against Newcastle.

As a part owner of Battersea Power Station and a Chelsea supporter, I would have no problem in selling it to Mr Ambrovich :)

Living next to it, it will also add a few £££'s to the value my flat!! 8)

Strange season for Chelsea.. a lot does hinge on one match.

Not being in the Champions league next year will be quite dramatic, however winning it this will make it the best year in their history.

Everything or nothing, almost reminds me of the early nineties when I started going...

It's all very exciting... Think I'll need several strong drinks to get through the 19th...

And the ref for this sunday's Man Utd v Sunderland?

Its Mr Webb (what a shock)

Your not serious are you (not a Chelsea fan)? Did you look at the line up?

We had 5 1st team players missing and they had much the same. If they put a weak squad out to protect for a game in 11 days then Robbie may have just got himself sacked.. Cant see them beating Bayern, so no CL footy will probably see him go, shame.

Haven't Blackpool been beaten by West Ham twice this season, 4-0 and 4-1 if i remember ;)

Prior form doesn't count for much in games like this... haven't Liverpool beat Chelsea in 3 out of 4 attempts this season... but we all know which of the 4 they lost!

The play off final, more than any other game is where the formbook goes out of the window. Amazing to watch, as long as you're not involved.

I still have nightmares about 1999....Paul Dickov misses
