The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

Barca didnt have a plan B either at Stamford Bridge or the Nou Camp thats why they were beaten and the reason their manager is gone.

And is there really any pressure this time round? Expectations are at an all time low. Anything better than the group stages is a bonus.

Me thinks you underestimate the expectation and triggerhappy nature of the English public (media!)

They will have us down as favourites by the end of May!!! Then be calling for Roy's head come 19th June!!!

... and the reason their manager is gone.

I don't buy the last bit. I think Pep's resignation has been a long time coming, and in all likelihood he would've called it a day at the end of the season whatever had happened.

Obviously he rather have gone out on a high, but what has he got left to prove?!

Continued the good work and foundations that his predecessor had laid, and excelled himself, nurturing the greatest footballer in the World and winning record number of trophies in such a short space of time.

Will be interesting to see if he can replicate even half his success elsewhere in the future.

Barca didnt go through because of bad finishing in two legs, plain and simple.
Pep told the board he was leaving at the end of the season in December. He was going to go anyway.

Pepe is a good manager, Barca has high standards. The players have to play and defend.

Peps mistakes were playing Tello & Cuenca in such a game

with Pedro avaliable it was folly to gamble with inexperience

and with Drogbas power - Pique was required

Do you think the next manager will be better than Pep(serious question)?

City fans rejoice, Sir Alex had curious choices for the starting 11????

Nice to see a Maidstone lad play an integral part of the fate of this year's Prem title :spank:

When Pep replaced Frank Rijkard, not even the most optomistic of Barca supporters could have envisioned the success he would bring to the club. On that basis, there is no reason to suggest Vilanova will be anything but a success.

I think Barcelona should be commended for keeping it in house, and making an internal appointment.

i don't think he will
but it will help that he has been there and has been part of the whole project already

its just IMO Pep chose the wrong teams for the 2 major games - a couple of players here and there and its a treble season

He has big shoes to fill.

I'd say Barca currently have to promote from within
because its all about a philosophy about how to play the game - not about the ego or the celebrity

to be fair, Dgea was just as culpable, although it was a bullet of a header, not 5 mins earlier I was bemoaning our lack of strikes direct from corners!!

still not over, cant see utd not winning their last two which puts massive pressure on City.

both sides should win out, that puts the pressure on Man utd to score goals. Newcwstle has not been on form as of late.

I'm actually placing a wager that Utd will fail to win either of their final 2 games.

I think their morale will have been shot after last night. Swansea still have a point to prove, after Mancini's ridiculous "easy game" statements, and I don't care what anybody says, away at Sunderland is a tenfold harder fixture than away at Newcastle.

That said, I would hardly say Newcastle have "not been on form" recently. The result against Wigan was a blip, and the scoreline flattered them to a certain degree. Let's not forget that this is the Wigan side who have turned over Man Utd & Arsenal in recent weeks, and are playing football better than Barcelona at present!

But aside from that, Newcastle have been on a great streak.

Still expect them to come mightily undone against Aguero, Tevez & Co. however.

Chelsea have to beat them tomorrow to make sure they stay right up there for fourth should they not win the CL.
Can't see anything but a chelsea win and that'll knock Newcastle even more.

Will not argue with Hodgson's appointment. On paper, he is the most logical candidate, and i wish him well. But FOUR YEAR CONTRACT?!?! :spank: Which bright spark at the FA decided on that one?!
