The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

all prem games are broadcast live to somewhere on the planet. no excuses not to use the tv feed to assist in deciding if the ball is over the frigging line or not.

good result for the goons tonite too. ;)

Haha

You are right about using instant replay. The fragile back line did the gooners in. The Wigan side play a defensive still of football that frustrates the other team and fans:p They got 2 goals hat off to them.

Bayern with a big win in Munich today! Really hoping we can keep our cool and finish out the tie in Madrid! Marcelo showed how much of a scumbag he was by kicking Muller as time expired... :spank:

Missed the second half of the match a meeting got in the way:spank: Should be a good return leg.

After RM's goal, Bayern controlled the entire second half....and Pepe's push on Gomez was a clear penalty not given. Shame Bayern didnt get a 3rd that they deserved.

Woohoo!!!! :D

Great night at Stamford Bridge. 8)

I think if we score in Barca we'll be through to Munich. Not a given, of course, but the chance is there!

if an EPL team went away from home in a euro tie, got beat 1-0 off a team with 11 guys parking the bus...would the other team get the massive credit chelsea did lastnight?.... or would it be a case of di matteo isnt the answer?...... 70% of the ball barca had and it was an off night...

still fancy an all spain final 8)

Chelseas penalty area will be like Rourkes Drift at Camp Nou!!

Joking aside, set up nicely for a fascinating return leg. Dunno about parking the bus, might need a fleet of them!!

those rating:lol: I didnt no lamps was playing till just before half time.
I think a lot of times those ratings aren't just how people played, but how they played in relation to their level of skill and how well they were expected to have played.

Lampard's long pass for the goal was very good!

Chelsea rode their luck at times but on balance I think their industry and the way they played as a team merited the win. Just about. Apart from flashes of individual brilliance, of which there were many, Barcelona didn't really strike me as all that cohesive as a team.

funny isnt it that london's 3rd club and the uks 6th, are 90 mins away from the final of Europes top club competition?

waits for the reactions ;)

I have to disagree on various points here.

I really don't understand some of the credit given to Chelsea's performance, not just by you, but by some of the press.
In 2009 they DID deserve all the credit because we had no chances and 0 shots on goal when the famous Iniesta goal, so that was a supreme defensive performance.

AC Milan in the last round, limited us to far less chances in the San Siro and created more than Chelsea, just didnt take them.

When a team creates two ones on ones with the goalie, two open goals from 5 yards, plus 3 or 4 decent half chances in the area I'm not so sure the other team can be said to have defended well. Yes they also made good last minute blocks, but that's going to happen with 10 men behind the ball.

I do give them huge credit for their efficiency up front, that was unbelievable, plus their effort and determination.

In terms of you comment that Barca only showed flashes of individual brillaint, that was exactly what we didnt do. Messi didnt do any of his mazy runs, or did iniesta. All our chances came from long passing moves. The fact Chelsea didnt leave their half was becuase as a TEAM we pressured well as usual and were tactically very well set up.

it will be a different story 2nd leg on the BIG park .... chelsea will defo need to score and i cant see that happening...

We almost always score there, so I can see it happening.
It'll take 3 goals by Barca, but that's certainly within the realm of possibility.

To be honest I'm very surprised at the odds with the betting. On Betfair the odds to go through are:

Barca 1.46
Chelsea 3.15

I'm half tempted to put some money on Chelsea!!

I wouldve though more realistic would be something like
Barca 1.8
Chelsea 2.5

Im a Chelsea supporter since the ruud gullit days but realise that Barcelona are the best football team in the world at present. Chelsea have come out the wrong side of a Barca champions league knockout tie 3 times now....many of the present Chelsea team have a score to settle with them.

The objective is to beat Barca and progress to the final.

It may not be pretty how they do it but when you are playing a team of quality like Barca teams have to play to their available strengths. English football is all about defence and midfield play...its their bread and butter in the Premiership.

Frustrate a team like Barca and you stop them playing the style of football they are good at. We saw a classic deployment of this tactic by Chelsea last wed night. The first leg played at Stamford Bridge was an advantage as Barca are now susceptible to an away goal.

Chelsea will play the same set up again at the Nou Camp and I fancy Drogba to score another hes a man for the big games. Barca will have to score early and hope Chelsea dont get an away goal. Chelsea are playing with confidence and with an in form Drogba wont be easy to beat.
