The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

Liverpool have had far better sides than what they have at the moment and haven' t won the league in over 20 years.. what makes this year special??? Manure are still the team to beat, chelsea will still be strong as sooner or later torres will hit form and Man City like it or not will be a footballing superpower. Liverpool will be squabbling over 4th with the Arse and Tottenham ( which can classed as a succesful season IMHO )...

What makes this year so special? Allow me to explain.

New Manager - breathing pure optimism and confidence into the team along with proven motivational and technical experience. Gets the best out of most players.

New Owners - with solid financial backing and a tried and trusted method of turning the fortunes around for sporting teams (Red Sox)

New Players - strengthening the weak links in our team (left wing, left back, strikers). On top of that arguably the best keeper in the league.

Winning results - based on my previous post regarding the stats for the latest 16 games of last season.

To me, it would seem naive to NOT back Liverpool winning the league this season.

Anyway, take care for now. Bye bye.

I admire your optism fella and i wish you the best of luck.. But with your talisman's best football slightly behind him and a mid-table defence you have your work cut out..

Our 16 game run last season was all done without Talisman Stevie G...much as I admire him as a player, for once we have a team where we do not have to rely solely on him or anyone else. That is far from Kennys approach for success...If Stevies days are behind him, and lets be honest, they may well be...we'll just have to rely on the legacy he's left behind along with any one of a number of quality midfielders who can take his place. I won't lose any sleep over it.

Top table defence. Again. (Read my previous post which goes on about goals conceded) Which will get stronger when we take on a proper LB.

Fair points.. But the reds have started and finished strong for many a season now.. sustainability isnt there strong point, no disrespect to any team in the prem but season on season they lose or draw to the likes of stoke, bolton, sunderland and last year blackpool.. KD although no stranger to management and LFC he was in no lose situation with little or no pressure so with that in mind he was in a honeymoon period, the real graft starts next month.. if gerrard can stay fit ( and at is best ) carroll stay out of prison, saurez carry on his good form then you have a CL season in your sights.. winning the prem??? not for the forseable for me im afraid..

I don't expect anyone to agree with me...20 years without Kenny and a title.

The time has come...

I will make my EPL predictions in a week or two. Was not too far off last year, except Arsenal didn't win it all. May pick them again to win it all and LFC not in the CL again this season. This is just a preview.;)

I'll pick mine now...

1. Liverpool
2. Man Utd
3. Chelsea
4. Man City
5. Spurs
6. Arsenal

Nice reasoned, educated response.

Well done Buckers!!

You can thank my teachers for that!

Happy to put a score on it sir, and as I'm not picking a winner, just backing against one, I'll give you 2-1.......

Deal? Liverpool win the league I'll give £40, if not you give me £20.....

Methinks Mr Mambo has been overdoing it on the Arundels!!

The 2011/2012 season will not be won based on the last 16 games of the 2010/2011 season.

It will be won over 38 games in the next 9 months. Agreed it should be a great season, but far too early to start calling the shots, especially when the transfer window has 6 weeks left to run.

although it pains me to say it, the only "given" is that come May, manure will be at the business end of things other than that anything can happen!!

I am one of a small group of Liverpool fans who actually believe that we willnot only win the league, but the FA Cup too. I'm not normally this optimistic by the way.

Here are my reasons for optimism.

Since 22 Jan last year when we won our first match under KK until the end of the season, we conceded the least amount of goals in the league, 13. Next came Chelsea and Man City both conceding 14, then Manure, Everton and Fulham all at 18.

These defensive figures show that far from having a weak defence as some think, we have the best in the league if the form continues as per the second part of last season. Add to the left back issue and if we can get a good solid left back allowing Glen to play in his preferred right role and another CD to cover for Agger, Carra, Skrtl and Kelly we will concede the fewest goals next season. Bear in mind with our Midfield firing on all cylinders, there will be fewer chances for teams to even get to the last line of defence. Lucas will help us here.

During the same period Liverpool scored 32 goals only beaten by Man U with 35. Man City? they scored 23 goals (and that was with Tevez). Chelsea scored 31 and Arsenal 27.

These figures are important because since then we have bolstered up our midfield considerably and now seem to have more options than ever for providing service to Carroll and Suarez along with goals from midfield Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Raul and Maxi.

Looking at other teams, Chelsea will struggle with Essien out for 6 months - Lampard may come good for his swan song, Nando - who knows with that confused lad, and Drogba will need to find his form that he mysteriously lost last year.

Arsenal...nah. Star players on their way or already out.

Manchester city, basically need Tevez to stay to even have a chance with the top 4 and its looking highly likely that the best Man City will manage is a unhappy and disgruntled Tevez until January. Hardly ideal...that will leave it down to Dzeko and Balotelli.

King Kenny will continue to perform the magic he started earlier in the year, with the financial backing of superb owners everyone seems to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

I agree that it is all about the team not a gaggle of overpriced prima donnas.

Liverpool will win the league next year, with Man U close behind and the rest trailing in the dust.

i love Liverpool fans.

I don't know what Arundels are but please don't think any less of me for this admission. I am a reasonably good person otherwise.

I thought the league was won by last seasons 16 final games? If I am wrong please provide me with facts. I need the facts.

Other than that, Liverpool will win the league. Of that, there is no doubt.

I feel guilty for robbing Buckers of 40 quid, but it's a feeling which will soon ebb away...

...oh look, it's gone already.
