The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

WTF is your fascination with that saying ? All he says is that we have strengthened in certain areas, and that if we carry on with the same form we might do ok, in fact he even says "The top 6 will be a great battle hopefully.*

Nothing about it being our year. You fcking Chelsea supporters and your fascination with us anting to do well

I think we're going to need a bigger boat, Mr Hooper!

fratton park today, ibrox in a month.

couldn't come round soon enough- i've had to spend weekends with the missus.

i also put a 3 week ban on myself talking about football, transfers etc. been nice avoiding it all in some ways.

still managed to rack up a few bets, if you're interested:

£10 drogba to stay at stamford bridge
£50 chelsea to finish above spurs with a 10 point advantage.
£50 chelsea to finish above man utd, with £10 per point on the difference
£50 chelsea to win the league

ouch. potentially.

Ditto to all the above. I keep reading so called supporters moaning about the ammount of midfielders we have been buying, but once you get rid of the dross and with Stevie not getting any younger, we should have 2 'good' players for each posstition, and imo you need that in the modern game.

RE a striker, I see we're being linked with Jeffren from Barça again. He'd fit in with the transfer policy of buying young players with potential, and he looks a decent prospect. Like you say a LB and maybe another striker will do.

I cant wait for the new season !!

i think the thing is with Liverpool (and my opinion is probably biased cos i am an Everton fan) is that they have spent big money (again), with the aim obviously being to improve and reduce the gap/overtake Man U etc at the top of the league....The problem being is that the players that they have bought would not get in Man U's for example side.

With the possible exception of Suarez no-one from this spending spree would get in Man U's team. or Chelsea's team, or Man City's team.

The money that has been spent has been a lot and there is no doubt that over the odds has been paid for certain players....10's of millions spent which has no doubt improved the squad and improved the first X1, but these players would be no more than fringe players at the teams who are finishing above Liverpool...

Obviously I'm being biased being an LFC fan, but is is true to say that a team full of superstars isnt necesarily going to buy you success. A team full of players who'll give 100% every game and are full of passion and know what it means to play for a great club, that is more likely to have success.

Players Like Kuyt, Suarez, Downing, Gerrard etc have the passion and commitment, then add to that decent commited players in every other possition and youve got a team that can win silverware. And having a manager like Kenny who understands the club like no other and what it takes to acheive things can only help.

I believe we've got a very good chance of getting back into a CL possition this season, and then hopefuly start thinking about challenging int he next 2/3 years. If we can give the service to Suarez and Carroll we'll get alot of goals.

I read a write up about Suarez back in february time just as he was strting to show what he is capable of. And the reporter, who followed European footy, reckoned he has a good chance of being even better than Tevez. If he can stay fit and get the service I think he will be terrifying.

My view on Suarez is that he needs to be managed properly. I watched a programme on his life (which he participated in) the other day and even he admitted he has/had an attitude problem.

IF he is handled correctly - and by that I mean given enough freedom to go and terrorize defenders, whilst at the same time, keeping his temprament under control then he'll be ok.

It's a fine line though...

You dont get many better man managers then KD, if anyone can put an arm around his shoulder and bring him back down then its Kenny. Its the South american aggresive attitude, thats one of the traits that make him so good (potentialy)

And at least he admits it himself like he said in the programme, its the onse who dont think theyve got an attitude problem that are the worst ala Bellamy et all.

Acording to Mark Lawrenson Kenny is extremly excited about his prospect. I just hope he can stay fit

I am one of a small group of Liverpool fans who actually believe that we willnot only win the league, but the FA Cup too. I'm not normally this optimistic by the way.

Here are my reasons for optimism.

Since 22 Jan last year when we won our first match under KK until the end of the season, we conceded the least amount of goals in the league, 13. Next came Chelsea and Man City both conceding 14, then Manure, Everton and Fulham all at 18.

These defensive figures show that far from having a weak defence as some think, we have the best in the league if the form continues as per the second part of last season. Add to the left back issue and if we can get a good solid left back allowing Glen to play in his preferred right role and another CD to cover for Agger, Carra, Skrtl and Kelly we will concede the fewest goals next season. Bear in mind with our Midfield firing on all cylinders, there will be fewer chances for teams to even get to the last line of defence. Lucas will help us here.

During the same period Liverpool scored 32 goals only beaten by Man U with 35. Man City? they scored 23 goals (and that was with Tevez). Chelsea scored 31 and Arsenal 27.

These figures are important because since then we have bolstered up our midfield considerably and now seem to have more options than ever for providing service to Carroll and Suarez along with goals from midfield Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Raul and Maxi.

Looking at other teams, Chelsea will struggle with Essien out for 6 months - Lampard may come good for his swan song, Nando - who knows with that confused lad, and Drogba will need to find his form that he mysteriously lost last year.

Arsenal...nah. Star players on their way or already out.

Manchester city, basically need Tevez to stay to even have a chance with the top 4 and its looking highly likely that the best Man City will manage is a unhappy and disgruntled Tevez until January. Hardly ideal...that will leave it down to Dzeko and Balotelli.

King Kenny will continue to perform the magic he started earlier in the year, with the financial backing of superb owners everyone seems to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

I agree that it is all about the team not a gaggle of overpriced prima donnas.

Liverpool will win the league next year, with Man U close behind and the rest trailing in the dust.

The first bit didn't make sense Matt. Didn't you mean my post deserved nothing more?

Arsenal at the top of the league at the moment - humour! excellent!

I would hardly call using stats from the latest 16 games as pinpointing???

That's all for now then.

Liverpool have had far better sides than what they have at the moment and haven' t won the league in over 20 years.. what makes this year special??? Manure are still the team to beat, chelsea will still be strong as sooner or later torres will hit form and Man City like it or not will be a footballing superpower. Liverpool will be squabbling over 4th with the Arse and Tottenham ( which can classed as a succesful season IMHO )...

Incorrect.

Liverpool will win the league.
