The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

And as for that ITV Commentator it's not the first time that guy's really got up my nose with his patriot ******t comments about how well England and certain players are playing.
I have to say that this is one of the things I like about US commentators. For all their overuse of statistics and general "gee whiz" attitude, they do tend to announce matches as neutrals.

By the way, how about Lamps scoring the winner? Obviously too old and fat to play for England

I've read far too many people say this was only a friendly and if Spain wanted to they could have easily destroyed England...why didn't they just do that then and prove how good they are?

Looking at the starting teams, Spain was pretty much their best 11 where as England where far from what most people would call their best 11.
I'd say only Hart, Cole and possibly Parker/Lampard would be the usual guaranteed starters.

England set about their game plan very well and didnt let Spain have too many decent opportunities. 21 attempts but only 2 on target says it all.
Scott Parker was exceptional at closing down that crucial pass on so many occasions and there was nothing Spain could do about it.

Before everyone get's to carried away with a England victory over the current World & European Champions this evening. Can i just say that not only was it just a friendly but i believe Spain if they wanted too could of annihilated England by a Cricket Score. Can't believe it, every time I see Spain live we lose.

Not a great game, we never made the final ball and it was too congested in the middle. No need to have Alonso in there when Busquets does the holding role. We need to play someone wide like Navas or Mata instead of him.

Thought England defended well though.

Still worth going if only to see the speed and control at which the likes of iniesta and silva pass and control the ball, amazing seeing it in front of you.

Ofcourse the proof of the pudding comes in the eating so if one is prepared to believe the England performance in beating the mighty Spain is anything to go by, then i suppose they must be one of/ if not the favorates for lifting the Nation's Cup next year? One'll have to wait and see.

They will be one of the favorites...England always are. Not that i believe that is always right.

I don't think England will win the Euros next year, i also don't think Spain will either.
I'm not getting overly excited about the fact we beat them but at the end of the day we did when they had a very strong side out.

Food for thought, the USA beat Spain also and you see what happened in the world cup. Spain will be one of the favorites along with the usual suspect for the euro championship

Spain should have won, England very lucky!! but defended quit well, but 66% -34% posession tells you all you need to know!

Does anyone else think England will continue there winning streak in friendlies by beating Sweden this evening? I for one don't thus took 7/2 for a Swedish victory which all being well come two hours from now i'll be rubbing my hands and hopefully paying for next Feburary's holiday for two Fuerteventura after the win:D

Possession is a pointless stat to look at in football. You can have as much as the ball as you want but if you don't do anything with it, it means f*ck all.

Oh well England surprisingly won yet another meaningless friendly and for myself lost quite a few euros:oops: I expect tomorrows online english papers will be telling us that this current english team is the best since the great 1966 Squad under Sir Alf Ramsey thus will win the 2012 tournament. As for the holiday well i won't let the missus down so she'll still have one though i'm very sure that a Leeds away Win on Saturday v Burnley will recompence my loss this evening.

NB: Congratulations by the way to my Celtic Cousins (i'm Welsh) Eire in qualifying for next years euro tournament aswell and hopefully theyll play France and teach them a lesson in fair play.

I think you will find on the whole you are wrong and Saturdays game was the exception, not the rule. England were lucky on Saturday, but now and again there is an upset, eg the fa cup etc. its very rare for a team to have limited time on the ball and still win the game. You couldnt win a tournament playing like that.

as for last night, its encouraging that there is now competition for places and no one (with the odd exception) can be guaranteed
