The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

Steve Mclaren has resigned from Notts Forest.......as has the Chariman!

Forest said in an official statement that they would begin the search for a new manager and chairman immediately, and that McClaren had made it clear he would not be seeking any compensation. "Part of the role of chairman is to accept responsibility for what happens at the club," said the statement.
"As such Mr Doughty accepts responsibility for his personal decision to recruit Steve McClaren as our manager in the close season. Given our very poor start to the season and Steve's resignation, Mr Doughty feels it is only right to do so."
The club statement also added that Doughty would continue to support the club financially once he stepped down after 10 years as chairman.
McClaren was reportedly unhappy about being unable to sign two players on loan.
"He was going to walk out anyway, I understand," said BBC Radio 5 live's Pat Murphy. "He'd hoped to go out on a high note after the game against Birmingham.
"He was upset at not being able to secure two Premier League players on loan terms. The chairman felt the wages would be too high."
McClaren had stated after the 5-1 midweek defeat at Burnley that dramatic changes needed to take place at the club.

Was at Arsenal Tottenham yesterday, where Arsenal looked great in possession but weak without. Tottenham looked very weak defensively, particularly down the right where Van Der Vaart played in midfield without ever defending.

Man U (and possibly City) would have put 8 past either side.

As Arsenal fan (of sorts - I don't have the blind spot required to be a full-on fanatic), I was peturbed to hear 'Shot in Angola, it should have been you' chant aimed at Adebayor. I'd like to say it was a minority of the away support, but it was probably about half.

I loved how this weekend the Merseyside derby was really being bigged up before the game as being the "Friendly derby" as there is never really any trouble or anything.

Was great to see the Everton fans proving this by launching missiles ever time Liverpool got a corner after we'd taken the lead.

Some shocking refereeing decisions once again this weekend. Refs are worse than ever at this moment in time, it's getting ridiculous. Although having a bet on a red card being shown in the derby did win me some money

I watched the scouse derby... Rodwell's was probably not even a yellow card! Tough on the kid. And ruined the match, of course. I thought Everton played very well, considering.

Props also to Norwich, which I thought matched United for good stretches of their match. If they had actually scored all of their open-goal sitters, they'd have won  (Reminded me of Man U v Chelsea. Has someone put a magic charm on their goal?)

Good to see the old Chelsea back... although Bolton were pretty sorry!

that view that the game is a friendly derby with 'reds and blues sitting together, walking up the ground together' is straight out of the late 80's/early 90's. The fixture is poisonous and has been for years.

the focus has rightly been on the blues launching bottles and coins at the liverpool players (bill kenwright has now claimed that following the game, everton has £3.56 to spend in the january window), but no media attention at all to the coins being thrown at the everton fans from the liverpool end....but hey, they are the 'best fans in the world' so its not a problem.

the game itself was ruined by the red card. it is not even 1% a foul never mind a red card and the liverpool player wants to have a look at himself for his reaction. After that we defended reasonably well (Jags's daft tackle for the pen aside) until Bellamy came on and used his pace to stretch us and make space.

Pity really cos we (and ironically Rodwell more than anyone else) had started the game well. If the ref doesn't back our appeal and acknowledge he has made a mistake i will be fuming!

onwards and upwards - nice easy one at Chelsea next!!

It was a fair tackle and definitely wasn't worthy of any card but Rodwells studs did catch Suarez foot so you can't really blame him as those do bloody well hurt.

hhmmmm, his reaction was way over the top in my view. and it is something he has previous form for.

buy hey ho......i'm blaming the ref more than the liverpool player for sure!

As a Liverpool fan I thought the ref had a great game and didnt spoil me for whatsoever! Infact I thought it was a great game and have been in a fanstatic mood all weekend thinking about it.:)

I agree with your assessment, Gunners looked lost without the ball. The shape in the back and the space they allowed was worrisome all match. This season is going to hell in a hand basket before the winter break. They need help in the January transfer window. :spank:

Rodwell is a promising young talent who needs to get out of Everton before bacon face II turns him into an out and out thug!!

Time for him to go, Padster?
The baying for his blood is almost deafening.
Don't hear the same for Coyle at bottom club Bolton, although to be fair he's done a great job in the past couple of seasons.

as an aside and as a bit of support for Steve Kean. The bloke who wrote that article is a first class knob!!

hes blocked me on twitter because I suggested his surname was incorrectly spelt, ie there was an "n" missing.

Ever since City came into the money hes been making up story after story, trying to stir up stuff and sell his dickwipe of a newspaper, even now, depsite the fact the football should do the talking hes still at it!! and Im fast becoming of the same view re sky sports news, apart from the genius that is soccer saturday the news itself is bollocks. The day after that game in Munich because and quite rightly so, they could not get anything other than the official statement from the club, in order to be the rolling news machine they are, they went down the opinions route, and got an opinion off anyone they could....Johan Cruyff, Dennis Law....man in the street, old lady in bus queue....then at the top of the news "everyones talking about the Tevez saga"...............well yes they are, because you keep asking everyone!!!
