The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

Serious question though, regarding the toilets situation.
Suppose there is a good dj there, that a lot of people want to see, so they stay there, just standing or even dancing...
Won't that just clog up the place really fast?
I remember that for Revolution, at peak times there was a very long queue for the men's toilet, so now you will also have to compete for room with people who just want to see the dj?

Wait till they get flooded out towards the end of the night or someone clogs them up with a smelly one. Everyone will leave and the poor dj will have to carry on.

Only going to be attending Hi this season for Glitterbox, from the reports there is less space to dance hopfully the EDM kids coming over from Ushuaïa will leave once they figure out Guetta isn't playing, giving everyone more space to dance.

Will glitter box be using both rooms this year?

spoke to various friends in the meantime who were at the opening last night, some for an hour only just like me, some for a good stretch of the night. summarizing, we all agreed on the following few things that weren't perfect just yet (and no one expected it to be perfect on day one to be honest):

  • the sound quality simply wasn't up there yet. the soundsystems are powerful, but in the main room there was a bassy reverb and the highs weren't clear enough and as someone pointed out on here, in the club the warmth of the sound simply wasn't there. sound in the bathrooms was good. I am absolutely aware that it was the first time there were so many people inside the venue so they had no full rehearsal beforehand. considering this I'm sure the sound will improve lots over the course of the next few parties.
  • it's undeniable that yesterday a LOT of people simply came to have a look, rather than to have a party. count me in on that - I came to do research, I didn't attend in party mode. and you could simply feel this was the case - I think the proper party vibe only came alive in the morning hours, but even then not as much as it could. again, this will improve massively with people coming back for their second, third visit and actually want to have a party there.
  • lastly, and this is also something very human - one friend of mine just said 'I simply can't like it yet - all the memories are far too fresh still'. I said I won't put up comparisons and I did my best, but again, lots of workers/locals said the same - it'll simply take time until you slowly start liking the new place.
apart from those points I have to admit that, hands down, what they've achieved in just 5 months worth of remodeling is quite astonishing. and yes, I also believe that this coming winter, the other clubs on the island will have to pull their finger to at least try to stay on par with the whole technology level presented at hï. but I will say something, people already claiming it to be the best club in the world - in my humble opinion that statement is a massive exaggeration right now.

ooh one more thing - lovely to meet you @Bonzo

for anyone on here that I've never met before - if you ever see me somewhere and think 'isn't this the stivi guy from the forums?' - come over and say hi. I love to meet forum members :)

Will keep an eye out for you tonight at cocoon

Absolute pleasure to meet you dude.

Totally agree with your last point. Space Closing is still so recent that's it difficult not to compare. There's still loads of old posters up with Space parties from last year and you can't help but be reminded.

Maybe ppl are not in party mode because they're untrusting of someone replacing Space. I guess over time it'll improve.

Those VIP boxes look riduc. Pure senate room from the Star Wars prequels as someone else posted

I've looked through as many videos as I could see of Hi and I'm not impressed. The old terrace looks very small, unless that's just the impression I'm getting. The old Discoteca again looks a lot smaller and is it me or do them space ship like vip boxes restrict a lot of peoples views? The building seems to have lost its soul.

Even though I hate what the Hi brand represents I thought they would do a better job than they have done. I was only impressed with the toilet which had a dj. I know some people don't like it but I think if that was in any other club people would think its quite cool.

From what I have seen with what Hi have done to the building its firmly RIP Space you were the best!!

Some further thoughts from the night myself, now I've had time to sort my head out and reflect on the club. For the record, I was there from about 11pm to 7am so I feel I gave it good go.

I appreciate that people feel it is unfair to compare it to Space and I feel that, in time, this may well pass but for the moment, I found it impossible not to compare. Obviously part of that is simply because I was there for Closing, and only came along now to see what had replaced it.

However, that is not the only reason. It became apparent to me that the general layout of the rooms is the same as it was before. So the general dimensions of the Discoteca and Terrace are the same from what I could tell. Most of the entrances and exits to these rooms are in the same place, and I actually found myself forgetting at times that I wasn't in Space. This was especially the case walking through the main doors from the entrance to the Club room. Other people in our group agreed that this the case. The main difference to the layout is that there is significantly more VIP areas in both rooms so I agree that the actual dancefloor space is therefore reduced.

What made this worse was that the big VIP area in the left corner of the Club room was pretty empty for at least half the night whereas the dancefloor was uncomfortably busy. For me, overcrowding in the Club room was one of the biggest negatives of the night. All that being said, I spent the majority of the night here, and particularly enjoyed Joris Voorn's set despite the sound quality not being as good as it could.

The Theatre, to be fair, wasn't too bad space-wise right at the front of the room to the right of the DJ box (where in Space funnily enough, you could also usually find some room to dance) or right at the back of the room.

The one addition which I really liked was the addition of an exit from the front left of the Theatre directly out to the Garden, which meant you could avoid having to push your way through the dancefloor to leave the room.

The second big negative was the temperature which was way too hot in certain places in the club. I appreciate this is probably something they can improve upon throughout the season. The sweat drenching VIPs at the front right stage of the Theatre confirmed to me that I was not the only person suffering from this.

I personally found the Wild Corner way too busy, way too hot and way too claustrophobic with its low ceilings. People were crammed in against the cubicle doors so people were constantly pushing past you to enter/leave the cubicles. It's not really pleasant to be so close to someone as they come out of a toilet. I personally found the DJ in the toilet in Manumission a gimmick, and I feel the same about this here. I'm not really interested in dancing in a toilet especially one in a club that has been used for a few hours. That said the music and atmosphere in here really was great early in the evening. I think they will have to rethink this for it to work properly.

I personally didn't mind the Garden. It was a nice enough area to chill out in although it would be nice to have some tunes out there even if the volume was kept low. The slide looked like another gimmick. Maybe I'm wrong but it didn't really look like something people would use.

Prices in the club were even more expensive than other clubs in Ibiza and, for the moment, I don't see this as worth it.

That said, I still had a good night there and, depending on who is playing when I come back in August, I might give it a second chance. I certainly didn't hate it the same way I did Booom!
