The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

Pretty much what was to be expected. A right load of shit, won't miss anything there .
Can't say the none edm nights look shit. And plenty of Ibizan clubs have expensive restaurants. And I am sure the beloved Pepe charged me 48 euros to get in last summer, 8 euros for a tiny bottle of water and 10 or 12 euros for a tiny beer too. I recall a large vip area behind the dj booth too. Then there was the food that looked a lot like indoor street food to me as well. But it was Pepe's club so it was ok, I guess?

all valid points. with the small, but not unimportant difference that pepe only put VIP when everyone else already had one and people were literally begging for it. hï will undoubtely be a great club, but the whole approach to it is simply a bit different. in fairness I have to add that the whole business is simply a different one to when pepe started

Absolutely. It didn't stop him doing it though. No one held a gun to his head, he didn't have to follow commercial fashion as he did. Pepe owned a brilliant club, one of the best I've been to and I carried on doing so for two decades. I know it's not a popular view of Pepe but to say he didn't cash in and take advantage of clubbers is wrong. It just doesn't suit the narrative.

I didn't say he didn't do that. but on the vip front it definitely wasn't him pushing for it

I know you didn't say that. If he didn't want to do it he didn't have to do it though. For 27 years it was his club to do with what he liked. That ended up including VIP, 8 euro mini water, 12 Euro mini beer and 48 euro entry. However he did remarkable things with the club and made it one of the best I've been to. I liked it so much I went back for twenty years and saw it in its many incarnations.

We should be suspicious of anyone that opens a club that wants a bigger percentage of the crowd to be VIP's. And we should be suspicious of the people that want to be VIP's too.

VIP has been argued to death on here and ultimately it comes down to exclusivity. traditionally the exclusivity was on the door [Studio 54 and Shoom both famously had notorious door pickers] but now the exclusivity is within the club

it's a tricky one. ultimately you want the right people in but you don't want it to be too cliquey, you want it to be democratic but you don't want scallies in on the rob, you want to be inclusive but you only want people who 'get it', you don't want to discriminate against straight people at a gay club but you don't want to dilute the vibe, so the whole issue of exclusivity is really complex. I think raves were a lot more inclusive than clubs, but then clubbers thought ravers were teds and ravers thought clubbers were uptight. maybe it has all converged a bit now, but there will always a hierarchy and snobbery because ultimately everyone wants to feel uniquely special and what is more exciting than receiving a special password?
