A few comments from Sunday 01/09. It was a good night, not best I’ve ever had at +1 though. I caught the last hour and a bit of Horvat’s set. I personally liked it a lot, but it kind of didn’t work for the time slot and the crowd. The +1 back in the day (OK before 2018) used to get to play to 0330 before Solomun came on. I think Solomun now coming on at 0230 means the +1 just doesn’t get enough time. Just my view for what it’s worth. This is a product of Solomun now being insanely popular I suppose.
We caught the last hour of Horvat’s set. He ended with a beautiful track just released on Afterlife Records. I had to Shazam as not heard before. “Resolve” by Colyn.
Overall, I think the crowd just didn’t get it and I think he kind of shrugged at that point.
Fundamentally this is a tourist crowd and most looked like they were waiting for a bus for Solomun to come on. I doubt 75%+ of them had any idea who Denis Horvat was to be honest.
And here lies a problem with this night right now.
Solomun came on at 0230 and absolute carnage. It was busier than the previous week I was there. He played well, a good solid Solomun set.
I make no secret how much I like him, I was at this night in June 2013 when the club was probably a 1/4 full, and I get it’s now a roadblock in an expanded club.
He can still get this place rocking to the foundations, and it shows the new Pacha off to the max. And the lighting guy is a master.
However, I’m just a bit bored to be honest. And I have a slight fear that Solomun might be too.
He played “Along Came Polly” by Rebuke at about 4am. As it happens his sister played it towards the end of her set on Friday. Should he really be playing this at 4am at his landmark night? I’ve personally never got this tune. It’s the kind of tune Andrea Olivia would drop to try and seem cool! But each to their own, and the crowd love it.
Horvat B2B with Solomun from 0500 was more like it, quite dark at times which I loved. This night is basically tremendous from 4-7am+ when the spectators that think they have to be at a Solomun night start to thin out.
And I know you’ll all be interested, but the song in the taxi ride back..... was “Maneater” (Daryl Hall Etc). You couldn’t make this shit up...
