I always wondered how they were going to build around the ses coves blanques, (or more commonly known to me as the dog sh*t path as thats where all the locals seem to take their dogs to do their business!). The path is vary precarious is places and overhangs the sea quite a bit, it seems like parts of it might collapse into the sea at any moment. Similarly the path way that runs in front of the apartment block just before and next to coastline looks like its going to collapse as well and I assume thats where the promenade will run past

in related news, they are changing the tiles along the (old) promenade..... something completely unnecessary, which costs more than one million euros, as the actual tiles were placed some years ago and still look fine!!

btw, the road between the mar i cel minigold and the palmyra apartments (the one that goes to BayBar) will be made pedestrian.....
from the ibiza sun:

1 Million€ To Re-Surface Sea Front Promenade.

Work started last week on the 1 million€ project to cover the present surface of existing seafront promenade in Sant Antoni with earth coloured tiles. These tiles will also be used to cover the 2 steps down to the beach as well as the street running alongside the popular Tulip Bar leading from the promenade to the Avenida Dr Fleming where street lighting will also be installed.

remember this :?:

as you might remember, they didnt have time to finish the new one before the opening so they had to cover it and this summer it didnt have two pools as expected.

the future new pool this afternoon:

as you can see, the little bar in the terrace has disappeared. probably because once they finish the pool they will need that space for the sunbeds.....

kanya is clearly the most affected with the new promenade as they have lost a lot of space in front:

judging by how high the stone wall is, same height as the terrace of rey de copas, seems like you wont see the old mosaics on the outside wall of cafe mambo ever again...

Blimey.

Not been on this place for a month or so. Really is going on now, and, while you can understand the authorities for wanting to clean up and update parts of the island, this is starting to look like overkill (yes, I'm sure it did already, but its' taken the work to start for it to hit home).

Especially a shame that the mosaics are going to be lost, and the whole experience of sitting on the rocks with a bottle of vino will never be the same. Bars will lose their frontage, and I'm betting there'll be people 'employed' to stop the likes of us just sitting about and admiring the sunset.

While I think a path from Mambo to Sugarsea was always needed (in some way) this is just taking away, bit by bit, the character of the place.

Real shame :(

on a curious note, next saturday is the 3rd edition of the annual flower power party, with the whole west end and fountains square decorated and everybody specially dressed for the occasion, live music in the marquee and 14 of the bars (hush included) playing 60s/70s music..... like flower power at pacha but in the streets of san antonio!!

Does anyone know how long this work will take, i am staying at cala gracio this summer june/july and will want to walk along to san an most days

the part that goes from cala gracio to the town wont be ready till summer 2008:

(...) For budgeting & technical reasons, the project will be divided into 2 phases with the first phase from the port to Cala des Moro being carried out this coming winter as the authorities feel that this section is in most need of a fundamental change, improvement & re-organisation, which building the promenade will supposedly achieve. This first section will have an imitation stone floor covering with wooden urban furniture, fixtures & fittings using 75% of the budget. The first phase will be completed by summer 2007 & the next, more rustic phase from Cala des Moro to Cala Gracio will start in autumn 2007.
