Crime Falls
On Friday, the mayor of San Antonio announced a reduction of 23 per cent in the amount of crimes committed during July. He revealed that his administration placed a great deal of importance on safety within the municipality, and these results were fruit of that work. The central governments representative to the island, Jose Manuel Bar, said that the results were a compliment to the joint work carried out by the local police force and the Guardia Civil.
The drop in crime figures were complemented by an increase in the amount of arrests by 52 per cent. This, according to the mayor Jose Sala, had made criminals have second thoughts about committing a crime within the municipality. The figures were complemented by an increase of 93 per cent in arrests for drug offences within the town. ´

Repair Laws
The Town Hall of San Antonio is to introduce a new law which will oblige property owners to keep their buildings in good order. The law, which is to be launched at the end of the year, will give the administration the right to fine those proprietors whose buildings are kept in a poor state of repair, aesthetically not pleasing, and present a risk to public safety. The councillor in charge, Josefa Costa, said that the main purposes of the law would be to ensure people were safe in rented properties, and that the beauty of the town was not thwarted by poorly maintained buildings.
Costa revealed the fines would vary between €300 and €3,000 and that people would be continually fined until they made the necessary repairs. If this did not happen, then the administration would have the right to put an embargo on the building or even confiscate it.

Hi

Could anyone please tell me the name of the modern apartments in the first pic straight on view and in the balcony of the second pic and are they available to stay in?. We have been to Ibiza 4 times so far and stayed last 2 times at Bellamar which was great, but would consider elsewhere for a change.

Many Thanks :)

Dunno but I do know that pic is taken from a balcony on the top floor of the Hotel Florida (on the corner opposite Wips)

Mac - obviously there's a crackdown going on, but is the reporting of these issues more prevalent in Ibiza now, or is it really the huge rise we're seeing? I'm just curious really. I have to admit that before last summer I never really paid much attention to the local press out there.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Just wondered really. I skim the Diario online but my spanish isn't that hot really. But it just seems to have rocketed this summer.

It's not going to stop me looking foward to coming out, but the nice thing is, every year I come more and more for the island and less for the clubbing (well I still go, but that's not the most important thing any more) and that's why it's still special for me. Something new round every corner.

San Rafael Complaint
Neighbours voiced their complaints during the week about the continued "street drinking" which is taking place within San Rafael. The close vicinity which the town enjoys to two of the larger clubs on the island means that it has become the centre for many illegal gatherings of youngsters, keen to drink before they go into the clubs, therefore avoiding the high prices they will encounter inside. The Town Hall of San Antonio promised to eradicate this practice several months ago, but after delegating a police car to control the area, the presence of these parties, especially over the weekend, have been on the increase, forcing neighbours to once again make complaints. As one neighbour pointed out, the problem is that the revellers make a lot of noise and create a great deal of rubbish. They have no respect for people's property and are a general nuisance. The Town Hall for their part promised to increase security over the next two weeks in the build up to all the clubs closing parties.

Obscene Parade
The Town Hall of San Antonio revealed that they have sent photographs and an official complaint to the public prosecutor concerning a procession carried out by the club night, "Home Club", celebrated in Privilege. The procession, which is a common publicity ploy by the more popular club nights on the island, consisted of four semi-naked women, crawling along the floor on all fours, chained together, covered in mud, being led along by a man. The councillor, Jose Ramon Serra Pilot, said that the exhibition was degrading to women, and certainly not what the municipal wanted parading through the town at eight o'clock in the evening. He continued that the organisers had been granted permission for the parade, but that the contents had not been revealed to the Town Hall. He warned that he would use every means possible to ensure that those responsible for the show were punished. However, he admitted that he did not hold the club responsible, saying that it was the responsibility of the promoters of that particular night. For their part the organisers of the parade, the theatrical group la Fura dels Baus, said that the piece was in no way meant to be offensive, and it certainly did not degrade women. They claimed that the show merely consisted of actors playing out certain roles, and that they had performed a similar theme in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992.

Totally understandle that the residents are not impressed. I don't fully understand the link with the clubs though? I thought Saturday and Sunday were likely to be the quietest nights of the week for both clubs, yet the worst of the "street drinking" gatherings:?
