but what happens with matinee now that there will be no after hours???

I think my point was lost slighty guys.

It is rather tiresome to read that every ill in Ibiza from the gum stuck to the mayors shoe through to local climate change is due to the nasty evil clubs & clubbers.

Could it not be that the street drinking mentioned above is merely a reflection of a growing problem across Europe?

As in most other regions of the Europe, alcoholism and drug abuse are growing problems in Andalucia. With the increase in weekend binge drinking amongst young people in most main cities, the rise in consumption of alcohol is becoming a major concern for families, as well as the authorities. Crowds of young people take to the streets of many Andalucian towns and drink alcohol from the bottle or from plastic glasses. This regular street-party life is known as 'el botellon' or 'la movida'. Apart from the obvious social problems of security and noise levels, the side effects of this level of alcohol and related drug intake is leaving its legacy of serious addiction and health problems in its wake.

the conseller of tourism of the balearic islands announced yesterday an integral renovation for san antonio. according to him, it needs a very deep remodeling so they plan huge inversions and a correct promotion to change the image, very focused on the "exaggerated night time leisure":

Underground Car parking Approved.
The Council in Sant Antoni approved the results of a feasibility study carried out by a firm from Valencia interested in building an underground car park under what is now the Plaza de España recreational area in the heart of the town. This decision paves the way for the project to become a reality & in 30 or so days the definite plans for the car park, which would have 3 storeys underground, 2 accesses & one exit as well as the capacity for 300 cars, could be completed & put out to tender if all the other authorities agree. The construction of the car park could be paid for by allowing the builders to exploit the installation for 75 years. It was suggested that some car parking spaces could be sold to nearby residents for 24.000€. Other residents could park for 1.35€ a day in the underground car park with specials passes whilst normal users would pay 1.5€ an hour.
change of plans..... the underground car park in plaza de españa will be done NEXT winter
even if the tourist season havent finished yet the works have started already and the whole area is a complete mess :!:

San An Change
The minister for Tourism at the Govern Balear, Francesc Buils, spoke of his plans to renovate San Antonio, after visiting the municipality last week and speaking to the mayor Jose Sala. Buils, on a three-day trip to the island, said it was important to know the needs of the different municipalities before offering solutions and economic help. He said that it was clear San Antonio needed a change of image. He declared himself happy with the work currently being undertaken, and admitted more money would be needed to ensure the area shook off its party image. He claimed that the municipality had much to offer besides the night time partying for which it is better known, and claimed economic help would be forthcoming, so that future promotion of the "other side" of San Antonio could be carried out.
Jose Sala, for his part, thanked the minister for visiting the municipality and said he agreed with his views. He claimed his administration had been carrying out a similar policy for the last few years but had lacked the cash to carry it through.
