Noisy Nuisances

San Antonio is to introduce new legislation to stamp out noise pollution throughout the municipal. The new regulation will hopefully be introduced in time for the summer, and will affect both residential and commercial areas.
The legislation will establish six different types of zone, from 1 or mute zone where no noise will be permitted, to zone 6 where much more will be tolerated.
As far as residential areas are concerned anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Firstly there will be a serious clampdown on those organising illegal parties in private houses. Fines which were previously set at a maximum of €250 have been increased to €300,000 for the most serious offenders. Those responsible will include the owners of the property, as well as the person organising the party.
Those people who scream and shout, and generally disturb their neighbours will also be liable for fines of €180-€3,000.
In addition the limit for carrying out work in the home, with high noise or vibration levels has also been changed, with work unable to be carried out from Monday-Thursday 10:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. with Friday and Sunday, as well as fiestas, from 10:00 p.m. - 9:30 a.m. However, Councillor Jose Ramon Serra Pilot said this timetable still needed to be studied carefully and there was a significant chance the hours could be shortened to allow work to carry on until midnight.
Boat owners failed to escape the new legislation, and those caught breaking noise pollution regulations, will also be liable for heavy fines.

from the ibiza sun:

Tourist Model
San Antonio has begun a four month study to find innovative new ideas to help boost the destination within the tourist sector. The study was launched at a meeting with the mayor, Jose Sala, the Island Councillor for Business Innovation, Jose Serra Mayans, the company carrying out the study, Intelligent Coach, as well as members of the business community.
Silvia Banchini from Intelligent Coach explained the study would focus on the revision of the current tourist model, and concentrate on what can be done to improve it.
Sala said that once the study was complete, his administration would begin to "knock on doors" to try and get the necessary finance to carry out what needed to be changed. His point was backed up by Serra who commented that to move forward it first needed to be clear in which direction the municipal was going, and ensure everyone was behind the changes. He said for just this reason it was important the private sector was involved in the study, because it would then have far more force when sent to Madrid for financial support.
Among the key changes businesses have been calling on for years is the construction of a spa to encourage more winter tourism with the Imserso groups, a golf course, and an improvement to the nautical facilities which would allow both smaller boats and much larger cruise ships into the port throughout the year.

 the neighbours denounce the chaos and the consume of drugs outside gala night
neighbours of ses païses area denounced yesterday the "impressive chaos" that happened on wednesday afternoon outside gala night. "this is the new dc10" said a neighbour, who assured outside was rammed with people doing botellón and snorting cocaine in the hoods of the cars". all this at 7pm "in front of the kids" in an area with lots of houses. a lot of neighbours couldnt even access to their parkings, because the cars invaded the narrow streets of the area (.....). things got worse at night and there was big discussions between the people living in the neighborhood and the people attending to the party (.....). even if music finished at midnight, things didnt calm down till 3am (.....). a representative of the san antonio council said these parties got lots of denounces and they have already done noise monitoring, but they found out they didnt break the rules. he admitted lots of neighbours phoned to complain but defended the local police who controlled the botellón, removed cars and arrested people for drugs.
"the councill will make sure they respect the legal cappacity, we will do what we have to do".

(the newspaper -on the paper edition- also included a letter from a neighbour attacking directly their parties on wednesdays and saturdays)

fight for your right to party and all that eh? enjoy GN while you can because if the neighbours continue complaining next year it will be a much more chilled affair and the zoo farce (it was NEVER a zoo ! ! ) will have to move somewhere else.....

^^^ there we go. as soon as something gets too big, the trouble starts. i was in ibiza last week and never had seen gala night so busy before; it was then when i asked myself how long it will take until the neighbours from around there will start to complain. the location is absolutely amazing, the only really open air venue left (apart of ibiza rocks), but with people living in such proximity to the venue, i am not surprised they start to complain now that people arrive in masses. i was not there this wednesday, but i am positive it was the busiest party since a long time at gala night with luciano and co. playing. (any reviews by the way?)

and here we go again... another two neighbours against GN, one in UH and one in DDI:

 gala night: discontrol in the neighbourhood of can bonet (no online version)
"a phrase from one of the employees: <things went out of hand>"

this neighbour wonders how the authorities let this happen in a quiet residential neighbourhood with even a rural hotel that attracts people with high purchasing power (matutes' hotel sa talaia), not like the kind of people that attends to that venue which is described as "gentuza" (a bad word which i dont even know how to translate). the letter finishes saying that nobody wants this kind of tourism.....

 open letter to the san antonico council
"i'm tired of people pissing on the fence of my house, of having to walk in the morning across garbage and glasses and broken bottles"

... When I was planning to hit Defected or Subliminal to see the champagne girls
I hit the autopista instead and ended up in San Antonio many times.

The place I actually couldn´t stand a few years ago
due to how crowded and loud it was was very nice this year -
I saw the sunset there many times and the residents and those on holiday
couldn´t have been a friendlier bunch ...
.

the opposition supports the neighbours.....

"we asked about this venue's licenses and legal cappacity. we havent received any reply from the council team. the reason behind their silence is more than obvious, they dont want to deal with the problem"

..... while the council announces more police controls at GN:

 http://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitiuse...ntan-vigilancia-molestias-vecinos/349951.html
"
at least 13 agents were yesterday outside the venue, mainly to avoid the traffic jams and to prevent other incidents"

another letter on today's UH (no online version, as usual) against GN in which a woman says the reason why the council has been so tolerant with them so far is because the owner gets along veryyy well with the PP.....

GN also on today's DDI, which reports last wednesday's controls:

 denounces for drugs and traffic in the control in ses païses
"an arrest for selling drugs, various denounces for possession of small quantities of drugs, three traffic denounces and four cars removed (.....). they plan to maintain the controls every wednesday and saturday"

as you can see, contrary to what the council announced, the policia local and the guardia civil were there not only to avoid the traffic jams.....

THE ZOO LOVES YOU

Hey Guys

Thank you again for your continued support, The Zoo has fully established itself now as one of Ibiza’s most renowned high-energy parties and that is due to you, who every week are helping us to create a real Ibiza party experience. However, as many of you are aware along with this energy comes problems. The Zoo, like many great parties before is now having some trouble with the Ibizan council and we are now asking for your help. Please please please when leaving the Zoo could you be as quiet as possible, respect our neighbors and use one of the free buses we provide rather than walking home. All these things will help the zoo to stay open and for us to continue celebrating each other, the music and the beautiful venue which is the zoo.
Thank you again

Big Zoo love

The Zoo team

after a long silence, the neighbours association of san antonio strikes back:

 open letter to san antonio
"..... the discontrol that continues happening in our town, like the dirt from our few and skint tourists, which continue getting drunk the way they can thanks to all the new shops selling alcohol and the cheap prices in the bars"
(ouch ! ! )

"..... keeping in mind these venues are in residential areas and they go to the bus stops in groups of more than 50 people shouting, and lots of them stop for a pee in the street, others to puke and even, the most affected, start hitting the cars parked in the area and lucky if they dont break you the rearviewmirror (if you dont believe it, please go to caló des moro on mondays, tuesdays and sundays)"
(not very impressed with the tiesto/clubland/judgement sundays pre-parties at kanya i think)

".....before it was all concentrated between the center of san antonio and san rafael, now is the turn of ses païses too"

(not very happy with GL either)

aye, not happy chappys.....

another pissed off neighbour.....

 problems in ses païses
"the party finishes at 12, well the music, because after that is when the botellón in the street starts again, the drums, drugs, shouting, music of the cars, etc. the illegal taxis pass, speeding, to pick up hundreds of pedestrians that go down walking, pissing and puking in the streets. i dont know how the venue ends up but i can assure you that outside theres rubbish everywhere. and on the 29th of july a policeman was attacked"

and now the turn of a neighbour from san antonio town, taking the mic out of what is happening in ses païses.....

 more of the same
"everything what you are living two days a week is a minimum part of what the poor citizens of san antonio are living during seven days a week, the 24 hours of the day, from may until the end of september (.....). im glad it finally goes further on than the town of san antonio, lets see if that way it pisses off some of the politicians on the door of their houses, like it has been happening to the poor citizens of san antonio for more than a decade, and they decide to do something to finish with it (.....). maybe one day we will get rid of this kind of turism, i hope so"

I understand in a way ... people and turist should love the island, for exemple ,i'm always happy to meet a local and i love ibiza so much and take care of the island as much as i can ... ibiza love us ... if we love it ...

In many respects this series of letters and what has happened with GN for the first time makes one (me) realise why there is such anti disco / party tourist sentiment on the island. Pretty stupid on my part I know:oops:

Personally I have never p*ssed in the street, dropped litter or been anything other than totally respectful to the island and it's people. And tbh I have never witnessed such behavior (except around the west end and san an taxi rank) but it clearly happens en masse judged on recent dialogue.

On the flip side, DC10 was not in a residential area and the visitors there are less likely to be upsetting locals than those visiting many of the clubs?

What / who is he perfect tourist to the locals? Has someone sold them the idea that magically all the wealthy people in the world can be malured to Ibiza, spending thousands and not wanting any nightlife?

it's fairly obvious that the problem with ibiza tourism is that it's most visible part is thousands and thousands of people gathering in the same few places at antisocial hours every night. just ask anyone who lives near a football ground if they'd like a match on every night at 2 am!!

i don't think that jose public wants super rich tourists, just some normal ones would do nicely thank you.
