Rip

Imagine being part of creating not only a genre and a movement but a feeling and at times still indescribable spirit that would rewrite the heritage of the island and reverberate around the planet, changing the way people made, played and appreciated music.

RIP to one of life's innovators.

^Well said

Was sadly too young for the golden Amnesia years and never did get to hear him play the Pink Panther.

For me personally, that whole approach to music changed my world and how I see DJing, and many records, parties and friendships emerged out of it. I think a large part of us does crave a return to the innocence and amateurism of the roots and early Ibiza which he symbolised.

Without ever meeting, we shared the odd FB message in recent years and he seemed really sound. Much love to Jaime and everyone who knew him.

What a strange way to leave :-/

sam moore, of sam and dave. you'll recognise some of the band on this vid from the blues brothers film.

The Mussells Shoals Band was the house band for Staxx Records and they wrote most of the big hits for Sam Cooke, Otis Redding (Including Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay), Wilson Pickett and Sam and Dave. Sam & Dave used to perform and then they would each leave at opposite ends of the stage and not see each other until the next gig. The reason was because Sam in all fairness was not a very nice man. To quote Dave, "I had to draw a line when Sam shot his wife". Quite.

David Lynch!

Absolutely gutted, but what a legacy he leaves. What more can be said about the genius of Twin Peaks.

What an absolute quality piece of music he chose for the soundtrack too…

Probably the best director for use of music. The music in his films and just the vibe of his films have had a lot of influence on music more widely. Trentemoller has been on social media paying his respects. Not hard to see the Lynch influence in his work.

I will have gone on about this in the Balearic thread, but for those who don't venture in there, here's a perfect short-but-sweet chill out track from the soundtrack of Lynch's Lost Highway.

NTS going heavy with the Lynch tributes. Just finished listening to the Optimo one (I really need to stick Optimo's show in my schedule), and there's a big Sounds on Screen one coming up.

They played The Hawk alot at Cafe del Mar, in the old days.
Remember the days when Cafe del Mar played Cafe del Mar music and a drink was a real drink there.....

that's what Moonboots was saying on Instag earlier:

- back in those pre-internet days, mix tapes were king. Getting a José Padilla tape (probably a 7th generation copy) was so exciting. The first classic Cafe Mar tape I had was full of eclectic beauties. PCO, Jon & Vangelis, Steve Miller Band, JMJ and Yello. And this weird croaky voiced soundtrack thing. Took me ages to finally find out what it was. Probably a Mison id when I ended up meeting him in a back of a Jaguar (another story). Anyway, that tune was a Mark Isham track (The Hawk) with Marianne’s ciggie crackled vocals over the top. It’s still a massive favourite and doesn’t appear to be on here to link up unfortunately. Guess you’ll need to search for one of those tapes. Or use YouTube if you’re modern. Au revoir Marianne. #MarianneFaithfull #CafeDelMar #JoséPadilla
